The alignment grid use the part of the hoop that slides into the embroidery unit as a reference point to line up. So if your fabric overlaps that piece the grid is useless. If you can get the fabric flat and taunt as soon as you pick up the hoop to attach the unit the hoop flexes and the fabric moves and ripples. So extra magnets were use and same issue.
