Description

It’s movie night, and the swarm of preteen boys in your living room have a case of growing and hunger pains. Fortunately you’re not asking where to buy a pizza stone—you’re prepared with this Old Stone Oven Pizza Stone and cook up a mega pie that feeds the masses. The 16-inch pizza stone and bread stone is crafted from the same firebrick material found inside kilns and blast furnaces, helping procure the pepperoni pie of their dreams. Its material is durable enough to move from your cold fridge and into your hot oven without cracking, even though you might. The best part? The baking stone’s symmetry keeps your pizza toppings tidy and in line, which is more than you can say for your rowdy movie night crowd. Often homemade pizza never tastes the same as a pie from your local pizzeria. However, this baking stone is made of the same firebrick material that lines kilns and blast furnaces and duplicates the results of old stone ovens to produce superior- quality and crispy pizza crust at home with all of your favorite fixings on top. The stone heats evenly and retains heat well so pizzas stay warm for a while after they come out of the oven. The material also withstands thermal shock so uncooked pizzas prepared earlier in the day move from the refrigerator to the oven without producing cracks in the stone. The baking stone has a 16-inch diameter, which is large enough to make a family-sized pie or can also bake rolls, biscuits, or circular-shaped breads. A flat surface area makes it easy to cut and remove slices right from the baking stone. Eight circular stone feet keep the pizza stone uniformly balanced on an oven rack so cheese or toppings wont slide off. --Cristina Vaamonde

  • Best value for price - Rinse it well on both top and bottom.
Size: 14" x 16" Color: natural clay
While considering purchasing this item over another one I noted that several reviews stated a strong odor while using this. While I was wary of this, I decided to take a chance due the the other reviews, the price, the surface area, and the thickness. The instructions specifically state to rinse and dry thoroughly before first use. While rinsing I did observe an odor however after two cycles of thoroughly rinsing both the top and bottom of the stone (I suspect this is where others have messed up) the odor seemed to have faded drastically. I then towel dried and air dried the stone for 30 minutes before inserting it into the oven and heating it to 500 degrees for approximately another 30 minutes. During this time no odors were detected by myself or my roommates. ... show more

  • After a Month of Use I Tossed It Out the Front Door
Size: 14" x 16" Color: natural clay
I bought this stone to replace a beloved pizza stone that broke after many years of use. I use a pizza stone multiple times a week and since my previous pizza stone didn't have any brand marking I started to research pizza stones. I chose this particular stone after finding promising reviews and I thought it was a safe bet. I couldn't have been more wrong. After receiving the Old Stone Oven Rectangular Pizza Stone on 1/5/2020, I cleaned it and put it in the oven to get it ready for use. I moved it to the lowest rack in the oven and preheated it to 450°. The house filled with a smokey, stinging, chemical smell that forced me to open all of the windows and doors in my house (in the middle of winter) and run outside until the smoke/smell cleared. It left my eyes and nasal passages burning. Ok, new stone... new material... it must just need to burn off. I did this a few more times (450°, 480°, 500°) to heat out whatever was on/in the stone. That seemed to do the trick and the smoke and smell seemed to go away. I used the stone a few times a week for about a month. I know my way around a pizza stone and was never happy with the performance of this stone. But, I know that it's mostly trial and error to get the right combination of time and temperature, so I figured I just hadn't hit the sweet spot, yet. Last night (2/21), I preheated the stone to 480° (same temperature I had used the last few times), put our little homemade pizzas on the stone and waited for the 8 minute timer to go off. I heard the little ding, opened the oven and was hit full force with that same smokey, stinging, chemical smell again. My eyes, nose and throat started to burn. I immediately turned off the oven, turned on the fan, opened the windows and doors and took my family outside (still winter). It continued to smoke. After a few minutes of watching my house fill up with that foul smelling smoke, I realized that waiting for it to cool off was not an option. I ran back inside, grabbed my oven mitts, opened the oven, grabbed the smoking stone, and tossed it out the front door into the snow. It is the next day, my house still smells like burned chemicals, my eyes, nose and throat still burn and I am starting my search for a new pizza stone. Do not buy this stone. ... show more

  • Chemical smell permeating from stone
Size: 14" x 16" Color: natural clay
Never write reviews but feel this product definitely was not sold as described. After 3 uses the smell permeating off this stone is enough to clear the house of all occupants. Don’t know how this item is sold to be food safe when it makes the dough taste like a chemical injection. Will have to really read the un paid reviews next time. Hope this helps someone ... show more

  • Foul chemical smell even after 3 uses and thorough cleaning with water only. Have to throw it away.
Size: 14" x 16" Color: natural clay
Unbelievable!! Supposedly the # 1 (Amazon Recommended) pizza stone on Amazon...it is a horrible product or mine is defective. When I preheated it the 1st time to 400, I noticed a foul odor coming from my oven (Like burning glue)...I wrote it off as the curing process...Pizza tasted fine. 2nd time I used it, there was some smoke, and I presumed it was maybe oil from the 1st pizza, but still a foul chemical smell in the smoke. Now heating it up for the third time there is (still) a foul chemical smell so strong, I took the stone out of the oven and cooked the pizza on the rack!! I had to air out my house for an hour. I cleaned it well with water only after my 2nd use and am sure the smell is not from "pizza drippings." Being my third time using the stone, it is too late to return it...(i don't eat pizza every week)...and I threw away the packaging...Amazon if your listening, I would love a response..Bought 4/29/17. ... show more
