I love this thing! You really can't beat the value. Now I haven't tried the new rolling knife sharpeners, but other than a whetstone (which you really need to be skilled at to effectively use) this is the best knife sharpener I've come across at this price range (in fact, even anywhere near it). Just keep in mind this sharpens at about a 20° angle so it isn't meant for filet knives. First off, a quick run through on using pull-through sharpeners. Keep the blade straight and perpendicular to the sharpener. This is key as most people tend to turn the blade a tad or torque their wrist, causing the blade to run through unevenly and skewing its edge. Hold the blade straight, push down with about the force you'd use to roll a ball of cookie dough, and pull it all the way through at a steady, even pace. The first insertion point is tungsten and really only to be used for dull knives that need the blade to be reshaped/renewed. But if you have any knives that you thought were useless, run them through this; you just might be surprised at the new lease on life that old knife attains. The second point is the diamond-crusted portion that does the real sharpening. This is where the magic really happens -- knives will come out of this portion TRULY sharp (assuming you use it correctly). Again, keep the blade straight, push down like you're cutting through soft butter, and pull all the way through at a steady, even speed. **This is also the ONLY point you should use when sharpening ceramic blades as the other two points won't sharpen ceramic (and will likely chip/break)** Last is the ceramic point which you use to basically clean/deburr the blade. It will smooth it all out and help that blade cut through your raw ingredients like a hot knife through...well you know the rest. Enjoy!

Roughly 45 minutes after unboxing this " knife sharpener " I attempted to sharpen a blade that have sharpened many times in the past with different sharpeners and lo and behold this one broke immediately.

It's ok. It will sharpen your knives but it's hard to get the point of the knife sharp. I could just be doing it wrong or my technique isn't quite there. So that could just be user error.

Included with this review are three photos: #1: A copy of one of the photos in the product description for the Homeware Haven Kitchen Knife Sharpener Amazon product page. #2: A closeup of the knife sharpener I received, showing two of the sharpening slots. #3: A photo of the knife sharpener disassembled for cleaning. The knife sharpener has three sharpening slots. Each has a pair of sharpening elements that are angled to form a V channel to align a knife blade correctly to evenly sharpen both sides of the knife edge. Unfortunately, the slot that is supposed to have two ceramic rods only has one on the sharpener I received. (Compare Photos 1 and 2.) Because the second rod is missing, it’s impossible to properly align the knife blade. Rather than sharpening both sides of the knife edge simultaneously, it can only sharpen one side of the edge at a time. I think this is reflective of poor quality control at the manufacturing facility. I have no doubt I’d give this knife sharpener a much higher rating if it was built as intended, but since it can’t reliably “fine tune” the knife edge it has very little value. It can still function to roughly sharpen a knife, but the purpose of the sharpener is to put a fine, sharp edge on a knife. In that regard, the sharpener I received fails. A shame, because in all other respects this is a solidly built knife sharpener that’s very easy to use.

sharpened my dull old pairing knife within maybe two minutes of me dragging it through the three stages. i was duely impressed. maybe it's because i've always struggled to keep my knives sharp to begin with and this makes it way easier than any other device i've tried in the past. the fact there are three stages of refinement makes a huge difference (unlike the traditional big blocks i've used) i love there's a handle for holding it steady, and the three chambers are numbered so there's never any confusion on which to start with. the results are remarkable, it was razor sharp within seconds and now i'm wondering how i ever cut through anything at all with that dull of a blade. looking forward to using this on some more heavy duty knives (i don't have many) but for the most part, i just use this one pairing knife and it's just been significantly upgraded, will be hard to use anything else as long as i can keep this blade this sharp.
