I'm just starting out with the violin, as an adult, and was super intimidated. Not to worry! The songs that they chose to put in this book were very easy to learn as a beginner, and not intimidating at all. So, I'm glad for that! Really easy pieces to learn, while providing the basic knowledge I was looking for. They also add the piano accompaniment, which was wonderful, as I do love to play along with my son or niece, when they're so inclined to play. Overall, 10/10 recommend, really well chosen compilation of pieces. Very easy to pick up and start playing... can't wait to continue on my violin playing path! cheers. ... show more

Great book for violin beginners. Note that you need to be able to read sheet music in order to play this. Everything is written for first position. Many of the standard tunes beginners want to learn on the violin are included here. I'd say this would also be a great book for anyone who learned violin as a kid and now wants to start playing again. ... show more

As an adult beginner musician, I found Beloved Classics for Solo Violinists nice, and I decided to give it to my nephew, who studies violin. It's great to have these beautiful melodies in keys that are actually playable! The fact that it includes piano accompaniments (available for download) makes practicing so much more rewarding. Running the gambit of recognisable melodies, this book is excellent practice for soloists. Also included is a piano accompaniment to fill out the sound in a duet. Clear notation, some songs are basic (though still interesting to hear & play), comforting like traditional American hymns, while others are sure to raise some eyebrows like Chopin. I found that it's well written, clear and precise when it comes to adding the bow directions for example. Contains a great selections of short and easy songs for children or even beginners. As a professional musician myself, all I can say is that is well made and very clear.
