I didn’t buy this for its typical use. My son loved the one they had at the doctor’s office as a distraction for little ones, so I figured I’d get him his own to play with as a sensory item. I went back and forth between this one and another here on Amazon that lights up but has a ball-shaped top with 4 legs. I couldn’t decide, and they were cheap enough, so I got both. PLEASE learn from my mistake and just spend the extra $2 on the HoMedics brand! Both massagers arrive and I find out they’re only cool when a nurse gives them to you. Oh well, now Mom gets to use it for the various muscle spasms that accompany severe disc herniation! Gotta look at the positives, right? 1) It is powerful enough to soothe average muscle aches and promote fascia release - if you push hard enough. Not even close to relieving lumbar tension and spasm from disc bulges/herniation, however, if you’re in the same boat as me, you know nothing really helps! I find it very useful for my husband’s neck and back after work and for leg/calf pain for myself. My oldest also uses it to take the edge off the damage he does on heavy lifting days. 2) Build quality is excellent! As we expect of HoMedics, the plastic is thick and durable, the button is securely installed, the lights function perfectly, and all pieces fit together seamlessly. 3) I prefer this ergonomic handheld design (with a slope) as it reduces wrist stress and allows me to push harder without making it uncomfortable. Did I mention I have carpal tunnel too? I’m just waiting for heart failure and complete tooth loss at this point - listen to yer elders, kids! Take care of your body so you’re not writing reviews about massagers one day! ;-) 4) Comes with batteries! Woo! With two toddlers and 300 battery-operated toys I’ll take as many free ones as I can get. 5) Now, this is not an endorsement for tossing your “Ribbit” around all willy-nilly, but my son has both spiked it on my granite and hardwood floors, as well as dunked it in the water tub on his sensory table. Still kept buzzing away. Ribbit lives another day! The short of it: Well worth the investment, will help ease minor to moderate pain from muscle cramps, release tension without hurting, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Buy one! ... show more

  • Great buy. Gives a vigorous deep massage...
I purchased both the Zyllion Waterproof Handheld Wireless Vibrating Massager (White) ZMA-17-WT ($17.95) & the HoMedics NOV-45-9CTM Ribbit Massager ($9.99) The Zyllion Vibrating Massager gives a very gentle massage for area that needs a gentle touch. I use the Zillion massager around the neck area & arms for a gentle soothing massage. The HoMedics (Homedics) Ribbit Massager gave a much more vigorous massage. I use it on the thighs & the back for a deeper vigorous massage. A family member has Parkinson’s & her muscles gets very tight; the two massagers work great. The only complaint would be the short battery life of both massagers. I would recommend getting one of each. In fact I am ordering another set of the same massagers as backups. I’ll give 4 stars to both, would give 5 stars if the batteries lasted longer. ... show more

  • Nice massager!
We purchased this for our son who is on the spectrum and loves vibration. This is one of his go to items when he needs stimulation. The lights make it even more useful for him to use any time of the day and adds to the excitement/relaxation factor for him.

  • Arrived With Corroded/ Exploded Batteries
I bought this for our beautiful son, who has a sensory processing disorder, among other things. Ok, lots of other things. But right now, he's been struggling more with some of his sensory stuff since a recent hospital procedure, and he does really well with vibrating stimuli on his jaw line and to the sides of his mouth, it helps calm him down and decrease his desire to chew on things that aren't meant to be. We had gotten rid of the prior one because he hadn't wanted to use it here at home for months, it too was a homedics, but a different product. So when this came today, I noticed that it wouldn't start even once the “Pull out to start” tab was yanked, and that the try me function didn't work. So I opened it up, and pictures are attached. The batteries in it had corroded, and the contents leaked all over the inside of the device. I was able to clean it up and new batteries did get it to start, however, given the corrosive nature of battery juice, I'm not sure now how long this thing is going to last, hence the three stars. I asked my daughter for a fairness meter on this, because I was leaning towards 2, and she said if it was a common problem reported by other reviewers then we should give it a 2, if not leave it at 3. I only saw 2 other reviewers mention that, so I'm going to go with her fairness meter on this one and leave it at three. I actually feel like as long as it's not put on a table while on, this isn't very loud...at least ours isn't. The noise didn't bother my little guy, and he's pretty sensitive about sounds. I have included a picture of the lights. I don't think they aren't bright so much as the color is intense, especially in a shaded room (kind of like a glow bracelet), and he's very distracted by them, and was wanting to look at the lights more then put the device up to the side of his face. I think perhaps the novelty of that will wear off though for him. I think the light is kind of one of those unnecessary features that will probably suck the battery down quicker, so unless you need that feature for a kiddo who would be amused by it, it may be better to get a device without it. So for us, the big problem was that it came with corroded and leaking batteries, which will more then likely affect how long this thing lasts, given how much of the contents were leaked out. So heads up... Update 3/21/17: This thing burned through a set of new batteries in 3 days with fairly minimal use. The other homedics one we had without the lights, the batteries lasted a few weeks. So I really can't recommend this product at all at this point based on how quickly it drains the batteries. It is always possible this is a side effect of the corroded and exploded batteries on our unit, but I recommend you consider a different massager...At this point, I am planning on getting a different one myself, because it would be more cost effective to do so then to keep buying batteries at this rate of usage... ... show more
