  • Holmes fan review
Style: Digital Control w/ Remote Size: 9 Inch
I was I mean I am very pleased with my new 9-in twin fan multi-tasking window fan. The motor is stronger than the West type of fan I had and everything seems to be working fine and it's a good looking piece of accessory to my window

  • The remote is the best feature!
Style: Digital Control w/ Remote Size: 9 Inch
Love this fan so much! Living in an old house where the circulation is hard to achieve created a hunt for a good window fan. All the old ones I would buy had to be manually turned around to either pull air out or push air in, this one has a remote! Sometimes the small things are the best things, making life easier by switching between intake, exhaust or exchange with the push of a button, now... I can't live without it. The fan moves a large amount of air while being relatively quiet (it is a fan after all.) Three speeds means I am able to choose the airflow and the volume from across the room. It fits well in my small windows and the accordion sides allows for adjustment. I am grateful for a decent fan at a decent price that works exactly how I need it to. ... show more

  • Well- built with an added electronic remote but missing one very useful feature.
Style: Contemporary Size: 9 Inch
We have two other of these dual 9" window fans by Holmes. They are well built, last for years and offer all the features you could want, and then some. This model, almost identical to the one we purchased 5 or 6 years ago (and which is still running like new) has added a remote control which handy. But the first thing we noticed is that this newer, more sleek looking unit is noticeably less powerful than its older brother. They added a digital display to show you which of the three speeds it is on while the older model had big old retro knobs that selected the three speeds, but sadly, while the digital display is modern looking, they eliminated one very useful feature that was on the old unit -- a thermometer that allowed you to dial in a temperature and the fan would go on or off depending on if the room is warmer or colder than that temp you set. With this new unit, we've got a pretty digital display but no thermometer. -- a bit disappointing. Still, these fans are solidly built and can boast longevity. One feature we like is that the back grill comes off with a single screw which makes for easy cleaning and allows you to easily put a piece of screen material between the screen and the blades to prevent flies and mosquitoes from being sucked into the room when it is set on intake. ... show more

  • Works great in conjunction with my AC!
Style: Digital Control w/ Remote Size: 9 Inch
Great little fan that works perfectly alongside my AC. I mainly use it as an exhaust to push out the heat my computer makes right at the window, and it does the job really well. On cooler nights I’ll flip it to intake and it brings in fresh air, which helps cut down on AC costs. Super handy and easy to use. ... show more

  • Has potential to be good
Style: Digital Control w/ Remote Size: 9 Inch
Its a nice window fan if you need one in a pinch. It moves air well and the extendable sides are locked in place with clips. Its priced well and can reverse airflow without having to take the fan out of the window first. The issue here is that the fan blades are randomly loud. They make a grinding/scraping noise. It sounds like something isn't lubricated or fastened correctly. I had a new one sent over and it was louder than the original fan, so I think the quality of these can be better but given its price point you can't expect perfection. If you need a window fan short term or for a room on the other side of the house, then this is the solution. If you plan on using it for more than a couple summers or in a bedroom, I would try to spend a few more bucks and invest in something of higher quality. ... show more

  • Disappointing - Will damage your screens; not good for slider windows at all.
Style: Digital Control w/ Remote Size: 9 Inch
Won't trust Holmes anymore: All my windows are vinyl sliders, and I have an older Holmes window unit that I use on summer nights to pull cool air through my lower level (in exhaust mode with distant windows open, it forestalls much of the next day's heat). That unit has been great for 20+ summers, and is still working. When I tried to find the closest new Holmes model to use for my upstairs rooms, this one seemed the obvious choice... WRONG. Why do companies always obsolete their best product designs in favor of absolute cr*p? Because I trusted the "Holmes" brand, I didn't attend to the negative reviews so much as I normally would before purchasing. While I haven't used this long enough yet to know if quality problems like many reviewers have experienced will also be an issue, just a few minutes of trying it out have me totally disappointed in this recent design. (See pics for contrast between the old model and new.) * Edges of the armature surrounding the fans are too thick to nest between a slider window casement and pane-stile properly - unit can vibrate and fall out of the window. The molded-in clips for attachment of the optional feet (when in free-standing use) make one side even thicker still. (Who buys a window fan like this to use free-standing anyway?) In the middle the armature is so thick it wants to push out the screen. Edges of the armature on the old model are tapered for mating with the casement and stile, and the whole unit is just enough thinner so as not to push the screens out. * The extension panels on either side are short, very flimsy, and do not lock in place securely. The unit is so heavy that the lower panel just collapses under it if you try to stand it vertically - which is required for use in a slider window. The older model has a longer, better made extension panel on one side, and a solid (removable) panel on the other, for vertical mounting. Without both panels the unit cannot seal into a slider window for use in exhaust mode. The product info SHOULD NOT state that this model works in slider windows! * The remote controls for devices like this are sold as a "convenience feature", but in reality they save the engineering/manufacturing costs of putting physical buttons and switches on the device itself - Otherwise, why not have both (you know, in case that dinky made-for-elf-hands remote should get lost or broken)? Not impressed. Especially since you need to stand right in front of a tiny IR-receiver diode on the unit for the remote to work anyway. Old model has nice big buttons. (Since I'm on the topic of poor 21st century engineering, what Gen-Z genius thought an "exchange" mode, where one fan blows outward while another just a few inches away blows inward, was an impressive functionalty??? Duh...) Info blurb said this was for "double-hung or slider windows". If Holmes had honestly stated that this product is NOT designed for slider windows, they could have saved me from a bad purchase, and themselves from another poor review. ... show more
