  • A good bike at a GREAT price. Make sure you like small wheel (20") bikes.
Color: gray Style: Standard
Just to add to prior reviews... [edit: Max speed adjustment instructions added at the end] This is a decent bike (not great), but it's sold at a GREAT price. In my search, it had the highest number of checkboxes at the lowest price (given that free prime shipping was included). Some observations... -It arrives mostly assembled (for real). I've had bikes shipped before in "almost assembled" state, this one is really >95% of the way there. I finished this in under 20 minutes without help (I have moderately good mechanical skills - I'm no expert but I've done this before), Hardest thing is getting out of the shipping box. -You are buying a cheap bike. This means you cannot expect everything is fully tuned (there's a reason bike shops charge thousands for an ebike). I expect the need to adjust brake calipers and shifters at the least. Surprisingly, I didn't need to! YMMV, and you should expect some tweaking. Either learn how to do these things (not hard, watch youtube and note some tweaks are time consuming) or take it into a bike shop. -despite being cheap, build quality looks great. -left and right pedals weren't labeled, and are threaded differently. just pay attention when attaching, and this may explain why you can't thread it in. -The tires are a bit less than stiff. This was pointed out in the highest rated negative review. They're fine in my opinion and I wouldn't call them "wobbly". New tires are not that expensive (though swapping out the rear tire would be a real PITA...) -IT IS HEAVY!!!!!! 58ish pounds for the bike and 8ish pounds for the battery (about 62 lbs total). This shouldn't be a surprise, but just be aware. If you think you're going to pedal this without the motor, you better drop the battery, be strong, or be going one-way down hill. -I've never ridden a small wheel or fat tire bike before and a couple of things struck me... acceleration is crazy good. Going up hill is crazy hard. I think there's some physics lesson here, but these facts are obvious if you're coming from 26+ inch wheels. Not the bike's fault, just wish I had tried a small wheel bike... I don't hate it, but will admit to using the motor more than planned. -Also, I'm almost 6' and there's room to spare on the seat/handlebar height. The 6'3" limit is believable to me (or only slightly exaggerated). But it's not comfortable like a cruiser. Or maybe I just need to get used to long seat post and handle bar stem? It's about similar to riding a mountain bike on the road. -The motor is great. Stepping up from 250w... this is better (but interestingly not 3x better... more like 1.5x better, maybe due to extra weight?) -the throttle has a short lag, less than a second but noticeable. The pedal assist has a long lag, at least a second. That was true with my old ebike... I think the pedal sensor for rear hub motors is just like that (a mid drive bike, with motor at the pedals driving the chain, would be better for this... but costs a lot more) -throttle works with pedal assist (not true on some bikes). That's nice, you can use low pedal assist and provide that boost as needed. -The "bell" is a joke, maybe even an insult to this otherwise decent bike. Just take it off and be done with it (you may not even realize it's there, looks like part of the left grip) Edit: some have complained the max speed is 20mph. RTM!!! Maybe you deserve a pass because the manual is poorly written... the controller (brains) of the bike comes shipped with 20mph max (for US legal reasons... Any faster and it is no longer a class 2 ebike). You should not adjust this. But the manual DOES tell you how... Turn the controller on (long press the power button until the display lights up), then hold the plus and minus buttons down for a few seconds until the settings panel appears. You can cycle through the different pages with the mode button. Page 8 (I think, confirm in manual) is the max speed, in kph. The max allowable speed is 41 kph, at which point the motor stops helping... Though your actual max depends on weight, wind, and terrain. I tried maxing the speed, but didn't feel confident in the brakes (or my riding skill) to push it to the max... definitely got over 24mph though. ... show more

  • Rides well
Color: gray Style: Standard
I got the Hipeak Bona step over model and it rides great. It comes 20" size tires that are 4" wide and are puncture resistant fat tires that make the ride smooth across various terrains like on the road and off-road environments like dirt, pebbles and more. It has 48V 15Ah battery that gives you up to a 60 mile range in pedal assist mode. The battery fully charges in 5-7 hours. With a 750w brushless geared motor you get up to a a max speed of 25mph. The best part about the bike is that it is easily foldable to either store or to put in the trunk of your car for easy carrying. It is a big on the heavier side with a weight of 62lbs so you may need help lifting it up to put it in and out of your car trunk. But that also means that it can handle a max load of 350lbs which can be a huge benefit for some. It comes with 7-speed Shimano gears which enhance your experience as you ride. You can use the bike in regular pedal mode without any electric assist, in pedal assist mode where you have to pedal to move but the pedaling is assisted with the electric motor making it easy to pedal without much effort and helps you achieve faster speeds, and lastly a full electric mode that you can ride the bike in with just a twist of the throttle without the need to pedal at all, so it is like getting 3-bikes-in-1. One of my personal favorite features is the rear rack that helps me carry items on the bike without worrying about handing items from the side on putting things on my back. This has made shopping easy for me. The battery pack is easy to remove to enable easier charging indoors. You can even ride in regular pedal mode without the battery attached. The bike comes mostly assembled and it is quick to put the final pieces together with the included tools. The digital screen on the bike shows you your speed, battery capacity, odometer and pedal assist level. The bike also comes with a headlight and rear reflectors for your safety. I've been using it regularly for the past month and I've only had to charge it once after the initial charge. Overall, quite a fun ride. ... show more

  • This is a nice bike that has more ups than downs.
Color: gray Style: With Rear Bag
It is well built, fast, strong, comfortable, good looking and all around a great bike. It is well balanced so you can ride no hands for miles on peddle assist. The bike has an exceptional range. I would guess it will go about 30-35 miles on peddle assist level 5. The 60 miles they say is for peddle assist level 1 on level ground and probably paved. The throttle should have been tweaked so it can start slower, instead it’s a bit jerky and not well suited for low speeds. Also, in peddle assist the bike jumps a bit when you start peddling, so you be ready for that when you start peddling, especially if riding around a turn or without hands, it’s not a big deal but must be accounted for. The bike can go 25mph if you change the settings in the console otherwise it defaults to 20mph. It’s a bit tough to get into a small to medium sized suv, take the battery off before if it’s too heavy. Decent shocks, nice breaks, comfortable seat, loud bell, sturdy back rack, bright head light, tail light has brighter break light when headlight is on, good tires, included rack bag has side flaps that hang down when unzipped, almost like a saddle bag. It can be a little loud, mostly because of the thick knobby tires. I initially had a problem where the battery meter was not going down. This was because the bikes system was set to factory defaults and not to the specs of the actual bike. I contacted customer service and they gave me a list of the correct settings. The main issue was the volts and amps were set incorrectly. If you see it’s not set to 48 volts contact hipeak to get the full run down. The manual explains hot to change the settings but does not list the required settings for the specific model. ... show more
