    • An Unruly Ride with Weak Warranty

My initial impression after riding the Mars bike for a couple days is that it's like taking an unruly dog for a walk on a leash. It wants to to leap and lung without much provocation. Hopefully, I'll figure out how to tame it, but the torque sensor is not as smooth as other ebikes that I own. I bought the Heybike Mars directly from the distributor a few weeks ago. It was delivered with a damaged crankset and a hole ripped in the shipping carton. My warranty request for a replacement part seems to have been answered by an AI Agent, first with an effusive apology for the inconvenience and then a request for photos and a video of the bike and shipping box. The last communication after I sent the information was a recommendation that I file a claim for a return authorization. A simple replacement part was not forthcoming. The prospect of disassembling the bike and trying to fit it back into a ripped carton and driving it to a shipper wasn't appealing. Out of frustration, I took the bike to a Heybike authorized dealer to get it repaired at my cost. He didn't want the bike in his shop and said an original replacement part might be impossible to get due to import embargo and tariff issues. Amazon to the rescue! I found a universal Prowheel crankset on line for less than $30. A local bike shop installed it for $26. Bottom line: Caution unless you are willing and able to get the bike fixed on your own. Shipping damage aside, the Mars appears to be a reasonably well-built utility bike for getting around in a hurry. If you are looking for a leisurely ride more like a convententional bicycle, this isn't it. ... show more
