  • Heybike
Love this bike. Bought it for my husband, but we take turns using it. Takes a little practice to figure it out and get good at it. So much nicer than riding regular bike. I thoroughly enjoy it. Every day I ride at least 10 miles. Very reasonably priced, well built, fairly easy to put together. Sturdy, dependable, nice looking bike. I highly recommend to everyone I know. ... show more

  • Great addition to my bike collection
As an avid road cyclist I wasn't on the eBike bandwagon until a trip to Germany last year and an opportunity to eBike through the Black Forest opened my mind to the possibilities, specifically commuting to work without being a sweaty mess. I've been passively looking for one and an ad for Heybike caught my eye. The Heybike City Run fit the bill of what I was looking for- Stylish, economical, well built and fun to ride! I truly look forward to my daily commute and I found a route that maximizes my enjoyment. This is a great entry level eBike and an excellent addition for a bicycle enthusiast looking to add an eBike to their fleet of bikes. ... show more

  • Customer technicall support
Bike was working fine. After one year the bike stopped working. I wanted to speak with technical support to help determine the problem. No luck. They have this terrible system where you call and they have to email you back. Never got an email. Called back. Went through same process. Got an email but no human. It is a shame because the bike is good. If they would just establish a proper customer support, I would actually recommend them. ... show more

  • It’s ok
The customer service is poor. A piece (forward fender forward end fitting) fell off while under warranty and they ignored my request for a replacement. They have a fake (nonexistent) Spokane address in their owners manual. You only get a 30 warranty if you purchase it from Amazon but you get a year warranty if you purchase it from their website. The warranty is unclear in their owners manual (and when purchasing from Amazon). The chain skips a tooth on the forward sprocket when pedaling hard sometimes (especially on hills). Adequate power for medium hills. Bogs down if grade is much more than about 15%. I’m 6’4” and 200 lbs. At maximum adjustment the seat is too low for someone my size. I need a longer seat post. Still it is a good value (even more now that they lowered the price) and fun for commuting. ... show more

  • Very enjoyable entry-level e-bike with very conspicuous branding
I have been riding this bike around for the past couple days and I am ready to write my review: Disclaimer: This is my first e-bike, and the first one I have ever ridden, so I will tailor this review as such and assume this will be either your first or second e-bike purchase or maybe even use. Suffice to say, it may just be easy to impress me. This is a very enjoyable bike, both on city streets and on trails. I wanted something to play with, and maybe commute to work on sometimes. At 6" 1' tall, I think this is the first bike I've felt I'm not hunched over holding the bars while still being low enough to comfortably touch the ground. The acceleration of the motor is very nice and helps me crossing streets, and I was able to go 24.5mph in max gear with full throttle and pedaling myself. The hydraulic breaks really are a MUST for a bike with this much power. The battery is more than enough for me, either to make it to the office, or on a trail; I wear out before the battery does. The assembly was a little rough but I managed; do NOT adjust the height of the handlebars with the center nut like the manual suggests, but tightening it did re-compress the bearings. I have a few complaints about the bike so far (see below), but the one that I had to remove a star for is the branding. The company name is on virtually every corner, from the cable organizer to the huge white letters on the side. The most egregious is the headlight and taillight, which both feature HEYBIKE illuminated by 3 bright LEDs each, which CANNOT be turned off. I realize LEDs are relatively low-power, but come on... really? You already put your name very largely on the side of the bike, do you need to waste the battery too? I've paid for your product, I don't want to be responsible for advertising as well... I was able to fix this, but still, annoying. Overall it is very fun bike and I'm having a blast, and very reasonably priced for the performance that I got. Newbie-tip: The electric motor can put out much more power than you can, so at top speed in top gear your pedaling is largely optional; this makes regenerative breaking a little pointless actually, because the amount of energy recovered would be meaningless. Suggestions: Even though it is designed as a commuter bike, it could be a more comfortable ride. The included city tires get basically 0 traction, which I especially noticed since my first ride after assembling was after a thunderstorm. I suggest riding it to a local bike shop and picking up some more all-terrain tires, as well as a hydraulic bike seat. These things would be nice to have, but obviously would have increased the price point (since I'm paying for them separately), however they really are worth the extra penny I've found. A programming menu can be accessed by holding + and - on the input pad, and a manual on the options is available on the Heybike website. My top speed was set at 62 by default which makes me think the speed on this may not be limited by software? I would suggest not messing with other settings such as voltage, current or wheel size; I was NOT able to go any faster testing with these for a brief run. One complaint I had was the photodiode on the headlight, which makes the lights turn on automatically and cannot be turned off with the switch once enabled. Personally I wish it was just excluded completely, because I would like to make the determination on when it is safe to ride without lights. I was able to fix this problem by opening up the headlamp and carefully removing transistor 960 (I think, next to R54, green in photo). Lastly, lets get to the branding... While we're in the headlamp, I was able to disable the 3 LEDs for the branding there by cutting the traces to R2 with an exacto-knife (red line in photo), it should be pretty easy to see the logic here. I can't help but remark that without the branding, the headlight assembly could be considerably smaller and lighter. For the taillight, I was able to disable all 3 LEDs by simply removing the left one (I think, apologies as I did not take a picture and it is harder to get at the circuit board for this one; the circuit board is a little messier too and I'm not a hardware guy). Its worth noting after doing this things, the display experienced a glitch and I needed to remove the battery completely to reset it; no problems since. I have yet to fix the non-electrical branding on the side, but I am considering either buying black spray paint and taping the section off, or taking it to a car body shop and asking them to paint it. The last complaint that I can make about the electronics is the tail-light's automatic activation. Don't get me wrong, I find it incredibly handy that the taillight activates and flashes when I press the brake to warn anyone behind me. However I wish it did not happen when the bike was not moving, as I constantly will use the brakes to hold me in place while waiting for a crosswalk or streetlight. In these moments, I wish the taillight wasn't blinking away... I don't want to just disable the blinking feature, so I have yet to come up with a solution for this... In conclusion, I am very much enjoying my purchase of this bike. I only note all the issues above to help the company improve. If you think you are competent enough to open the electronics, and make some small modifications to suit your likings, then I think I can safely recommend this bike. ... show more
