Description

Evaporative cooling fans are designed to pull hot, dry air through a water- soaked media filter using a water pump and fan. As the water evaporates into the air, the air's temperature will lower. They are optimal when used in hot, dry climates used to filter ambient air while increasing the condensation and delivering cool airflow. Evaporative cooling fans do not use refrigerants to remove heat like an air conditioner, so they are less effective in high humidity areas.Hessaire MC18M cooling fans are the most versatile portable evaporative cooling fans on the market, delivering 1,300 CFM of cool airflow covering up to 500 sq ft of open space. The MC18M cooling fan has a 4.8-gallon water tank creating up to 3-4 hours of use. The built-in float valve and garden hose adapter allows for easy connection and contiguous water flow without overflowing your tank. This unit has a motor speed dial with 5 settings: 2 fan modes on HI and LOW speed (pump on), 2 fan-only modes HI and LOW speed (pump off). The high efficiency 0.7A motor allows it to operate on vehicles with 115V power supply making it good for tailgating, camping, pool parties and other outdoor events. Assembly is required. Key Operational Points: Your cooling fan must be positioned in front of an open window or door to operate effectively. Always ensure that there is another open window or door through which the air can exhaust from within the room. At the end of each day, run your cooler on FAN ONLY for 30 minutes to dry out the filter. Prior to putting your cooler away for winter, always: a. Drain the tank and wipe out clean. b. Clean the filter c. Reassemble and run-on FAN ONLY for 30 minutes to dry out the filter.

  • So Glad I Bought This
Size: 1300 CFM
I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the summers are hot and dry (yesterday was around 100 degrees with 6 percent humidity). I use this in front of my sliding screen door and it cools down my kitchen by about 5 degrees, according to the thermometer I use. Five degrees might not seem like much, but it actually makes a huge difference. I also have been using this on my outdoor patio which makes it bearable, even pleasant, to sit outside in the summer. This evaporative cooler is solidly constructed and easy to use. It also saves me a lot of money by not requiring me to run my A/C all day. It's made a big difference in my life and I would recommend this to anyone who lives in a hot and dry climate. ... show more

  • Portable Swamp Cooler Done Right
Size: 1300 CFM
If you live in a dry climate that gets to be on the toasty side, an evaporative cooler might be your ticket to cutting down your electric bill while still getting the relief you need. I live in Idaho, and our summers (especially the entire month of August) tend to be brutal. Being in a desert, there's almost nothing to speak of by way of humidity. An ideal setting, then, to talk about this product. I've used several portable evaporative coolers over the years, and most of them have the same problem: the designers focused on the fan, not the evaporative space. So sure, you've got all of these nifty little features where you can create intermittent breezes, maybe a "silent" mode that barely pushes any air at all, and then a setting which pushes so much air you could create your own jet stream. Of course, the area for water evaporation is tiny, and you rarely get a water pump more powerful than a standard 5V fountain pump. Here's the problem with that: your fan is simply there to move air. Pushing hot air around isn't going to cool much of anything. With the evaporative pads being so small and underpowered, the fan easily overwhelms the very thing you bought a swamp cooler for. With most of these units, the slower the fan runs, the more the evaporative pads can cool... but of course, the smaller the space they'll cool, as well. This Hessaire does not have that problem. As the product photos demonstrate, the entire back of this unit (at least, right down to the water reservoir) is devoted to the cooling pad. Hessaire doesn't skimp on the water pump, either; you'll keep that pad saturated, which is exactly what you want. Now understand that I'm not implying that they neglected the fan--they most certainly did not: its low setting is very likely all you'll need depending on your application. Hessaire's low is their competitor's high. As to how well it works, as I type this, the outside temperature is 94 degrees. We have the Hessaire in our living room in front of our open front window, and it's aimed down a hallway where it circles air through our kitchen, then back into the living room again. The temperature in that hallway is 78 degrees. Yesterday it hit 97 outside, and that hallway never cracked past 80. The living room and kitchen are both at a pleasant temperature. Keep in mind that a swamp cooler's not an air conditioner. If you like your rooms a bit on the chilly side, no swamp cooler ever made will do that for you (unless, of course, it's also chilly outside). Rather than suck humidity out of your living space the way an air conditioner will, swamp coolers will add it. You'll have to rethink everything you know about room cooling when you rely on these things. Keep windows open--if you don't, humidity will build up, and your cooler will stop working as well. In our case, by keeping the windows shut, we'd be adding Florida's humidity to Idaho's heat. No thanks. But now back to this particular cooler. While I mentioned the bells and whistles others put into their coolers, there's little of that here. There's no remote control that you'll never use. There's no timer that'll shut it off after so many hours. There's not even an automatic shut-off in the event you run the pump dry (so be vigilant about keeping the water reservoir full--something you don't have to worry about if you're using the hose feature). Yes, a hose feature. If you're using it to cool a patio or deck, you can hook a standard garden hose to the water reservoir. Inside the unit is a float valve much like you'd see in a toilet tank, and it functions the same: as the water level gets lower, it allows water in from the hose. No muss, no fuss. You've got five power settings--and that's it: High fan with pump; Low fan with pump; High fan only; Low fan only; and Pump only (for saturating your pad before turning on the fan). All of these setting work exactly as expected, and they will keep working until you turn the knob yourself. It's a swamp cooler, and that's all it tries to be. Maybe that's why it works so much better than competitors' Swiss Army Fans. Yes, there's better-looking units out there--but for the money, it's hard to find anything that works better. Or is as easy to maintain. Once you remove the back cover, you have access to everything. Try cleaning the gunk out of the pump of a Frigidaire EC300W-FA evaporative cooler. Go ahead. Have fun. With the Hessaire, it's no problem at all. Hard water deposits building up on the water distributor? A toothbrush and a bit of vinegar sets you free. You can reach it, you can clean it... And you can replace it. Burned out the water pump? You can find them at several places online. One of the kids stuck a pen in the front grill and broke a fan blade? You can find a replacement for that, too. Try to find a replacement evaporative pad for a Luma Comfort evaporative cooler. I'll wait. (No, really. If you find one, let me know.) With the Hessaire, that's no problem, either. A lot of the stuff I just mentioned is available right here on Amazon, or on Hessaire's website. You're covered. So what are you waiting for? If you're in a dry area that has pounding heat, you're going to love the day you received your Hessaire. Maybe mark it on your calendar and celebrate it. It really is that good! ... show more

  • Compared to my previous Honeywell Evap Cooler
Size: 1300 CFM
I had a fairly nice Honeywell portable evap cooler that unfortunately died after only 4 years of service. I would have ordered another, but they were out of stock so after reading reviews I ordered this Hessair unit. To get to the bottom line, the Hessair is a good unit that really can blow some cold air. FOR THE MOST PART, I'm happy with it. If you want to know more, read on... I will be comparing the two units since it's what I have to go on. The Honeywell was about $50 cheaper 4 years ago. It's a slightly bigger unit in all dimensions, which I sort of liked. The user controls on the Honeywell are immensely better designed than the cheap, poorly made and very limited Hessair single knob. The graphics on the Hessair control knob look like they were hand-painted by a 3rd grader and are difficult to decipher. The Honeywell had an array of controls across the top that included separate controls for fan speed (3 vs 2 in the Hessair), a timer mode (Hessair: none), an oscillation function (Hessair: no), a timer mode and a sleep mode, plus a wireless remote. The Hessair has none of these, so it's not much more than a basic on/off, 2 fan speeds and no oscillation mode. Plus, the Honeywell has an "ice compartment" on top that one can add ice cubes to to further enhance cooling AND a way to control the amount of water flowing over the cooling media. Again, the Hessair doesn't offer that. They both have a similar side-door filler area but the one on the Honeywell has a larger opening, thus easier filling. The Hessair provides the waterhose hookup which the Honeywell did not. Finally, the water level indicator on the Honeywell is MUCH easier to see, while I almost have to get down on the floor on my knees to really see how much water is left in the Hessair. Overall, Hessair could learn a LOT from Honeywell about design and user interface. However, it seems that the Hessair provides better airflow and cooling and that in itself makes up for its many other shortcomings. The Honeywell did fine, but didn't seem to have the power or as much cooling capability as the Hessair, and after all, that's what you want when you buy one of these things. So for overall design, convenience and quality of controls, the Honeywell wins hands down. But if you want the best blast for the buck, go with the Hessair. It blows strong and cold. Now..... will it last me more than 4 years?? ... show more
