  • Works like a charm
It looks so scary and I was apprehensive about it at first, but after doing lots of research and trying it myself, it worked wonders on our German Shepherd Dog. Even using the dead ring (leash connected to both big rings at the same time, which is how you should start), it works perfectly and the prongs are rounded and safe, so they're not going to pierce anything or break the skin. It's SOOO much better and safer than when our dog was literally choking and gagging himself by pulling with all his (considerable) strength against his neck with a normal collar or slip collar and likely damaging his throat. He stopped pulling immediately, so the prongs became immediately irrelevant, anyway. Now he walks down the street like an angel and I get endless comments about what a great dog he is. It's also great for training around the house to not chew on or get into things he shouldn't. Be sure to research the proper way to fit a prong collar before using. There are sites and videos available that instruct you on this. It doesn't really come with any real instructions. A lot of people try to put it over a dog's head like a slip chain collar and that's totally wrong and causes it to hang loosely down by the shoulders. You have to disconnect a link (by squeezing) and put it on that way. Also, when you first get this, be sure to remove enough links to you get a snug fit so it stays high on the neck and not down by the shoulders. Other advice: if you have a dangerously aggressive dog, you should use a backup leash/collar just in case the prong collar ever gets disconnected somehow. It's more likely with the quick-release type prong collars which I wouldn't recommend for a really vicious dog. Edit: Forgot to mention that I received several recommendations for this particular brand of prong collar and I'm very happy with it. It is well made and solid and good for a fairly large dog. Very heavy gauge wire that's smooth and rounded tips, so it's definitely not going to hurt your dog or break the skin. Also, you can gradually wean your dog off the prong collar after it gets into the habit of walking properly by simply switching the leash between the prong collar and his normal collar. The normal collar is always on to hold any tags and so forth. If he starts pulling, it's very easy to switch back. You don't want to teach your dog that it's ok to pull with a normal collar. Once you have your dog properly retrained, you shouldn't really need the prong collar any more in most cases. ... show more

  • Great collar
We use this with our 1yo 80+ lb female German Shepard, and it works like a dream. I used to be one of those people who thought collars like this are cruel, but honestly, I was simply uneducated. (I also used to think it was cute to feed a dog from the table, let them jump up when they wanted, let them sleep on whatever furniture they wanted, would never think of crating a dog, establishing rules, etc. In other words, I was an idiot. But I digress...) So we (and Azula) were professionally trained by a reputable school in the area, and we all got through it with pretty good marks. It was 4-5 weeks long, and during that time, the trainers introduced us to this collar. We kept using it they way they showed us, and it's been great. And really, I promise you, it is not cruel to use this collar! In fact, I think it's the opposite, and actually reduces the chance of a dog seriously hurting itself from pulling too hard when on a lead. Case in point, we somehow lost our first prong collar (hence, the purchase of this new one); in the interim, I had Azula's lead attached to her regular canvas collar. Although she's trained, she is still a puppy, and she definitely gets excited when we go for walks in strange places and other dogs are around. She scared the bejeezes out of me several times when she launched herself against the lead, because she almost crushed her windpipe in the process. The noises she was making out of her moth afterward were heart wrenching. Of course, she didn't understand that she was contributing to her own problem, and it happened several more times. Has this *ever* happened with the pronged collar? No. Why? Because the prong collar makes it uncomfortable to pull without doing any damage, so she stops pulling much sooner - long before there's danger of real injury. She also has a nice thick coat, and the prongs don't usually even make it to her skin (yes, we check and adjust the collar regularly). But even if the prongs do get to the skin on her neck, I'll take that over a crushed windpip any day. I'm betting she'd agree with me. We have a great dog, and we love her dearly. She's happy and healthy, and has no problem wearing this collar - when it's time for a walk, she sits right down, tail thumping like crazy, waiting for us to put it on with her leash (obviously, this collar only goes on with a leash - you don't leave it on all the time). The collar has been an excellent training aid, and I firmly believe it has prevented injury on our highly energetic pup. There is a right way and a wrong way to use this collar, so I do strongly recommend this: LEARN HOW TO USE THIS COLLAR PROPERLY FROM A GOOD TRAINER BEFORE YOU START USING IT WITH YOUR DOG. E.g, you're not supposed to pull long and hard on the lead - it should never be a battle of strength! The proper technique is to give the collar a quick shake and then release pressure. Repeat if necessary. What this does is gets your dog's attention back on you, and away from the dog/squirrel/child/water buffalo she (or he) was trying to make a break for. Never pull long and hard on the lead with this collar on your dog. If your dog is that crazy, then make him (or her) sit or lie down until they calm down, and then try again. If it persists, go back inside so they realize that sort of behavior does not get them outside more often. Wait a while and try again. Be patient. Put in the time. It's amazing what your dog will learn if you put in the investment. ... show more

  • Absolute game changer when walking my dog.
Size: 22in (55cm) x 3mm
The media could not be loaded. We have a yellow lab that still has her puppy energy and training her to go on walks was not the easiest. Our friends recommended this collar and first we were apprehensive. We didn’t want to hurt our dog, but after they reassured us, it was more of a gentle tug. We tried it out for ourselves. We tried it out and immediately saw a big difference. Our dog would previously be pulling us on walks constantly. We would try treats and snacks and nothing seem to work. Now, she walks next to us or slightly in front of us, but I don’t feel that we have to yank on her collar anymore. It’s easy to use, quickly detachable, and his high-quality. Also, most importantly it doesn’t seem to hurt our dog, which we are happy about. ... show more
