  • perfect for me- you could build it yourself but why would you want to?
Size: King Style: Low Profile Wood
This platform does a great job for what it is -- basically a wooden pallet that supports the mattress, you could build it yourself but why would you want to? this comes very well packaged, is pre-cut and very easy to assemble. I started looking for a new foundation because my one year old mattress had what I thought were body impressions in it but after looking at this to try to find a way to lower the bed height (it was far to tall anyway) I felt the foundation that was under the mattress- the one that came with the mattress set, it has wood frame around it with soft interior so what I was feeling was the two wooden pieces in the middle, it is a king with two piece foundation. If you put your hand under the mattress and press down, it is very easy to feel the give in the middle of the original foundation and the frame around it -- a VERY poor design and not at all supportive of the mattress so the 'body impressions I thought I was feeling was just 'give' in the foundation After putting this foundation under it -- I won't go into assembly as there is another very good review with pictures above but it took me about an hour including adding 8 additional 1x2x6s from lowes ($1.10 each) just for fun - the ones that come with it were probably enough to do the job as we are not large people. The only thing I will recommend is a deep 1/2 inch socket for the bolts - its much faster than using the included wrench and careful use of an electric drill or screwdriver for the screws that go in the slats - just be careful it is pine (I think) so it is soft wood- just be careful not to overdo it. The biggest challenge to assembly is putting the fabric cover over the assembled frame (it is a very tight fit) but looks great when finished. The bed feels much better, body impressions / dips in the sides are gone and the bed is about 5 inches closer to the ground than it was, a much better height; so for us, it was worth the money. Oh and for those who've asked, there is no creaking or noise from the foundation after it was assembled and placed on a solid metal bed frame. Do note the height, this is much shorter than a 'normal' foundation- for example, the one that came with the mattress originally was 9 inches tall and this is 4 inches tall so my bed is now about 5 inches lower than it was so measure to make sure this is what you want. ... show more

  • Great quality! Don't be afraid of assembly!
So glad I purchased this to serve as a platform for my new memory foam mattress. I have assembled LOTS of furniture purchased online (and otherwise) so I was ready for what I expected to be a long assembly process. BUT, it couldn't have been easier! I mean, once I got the parts laid out, it went really quickly. I had read the reviews on here and had rubber-coated gardening gloves on to handle the wood. It wasn't quite as rough as some reviewers made it out to be, but it did have splinters on most of the boards, especially the ends. But using the gloves I had zero problems with splinters (though I will vacuum the carpet I assembled it on, because the wood did shed some splinters on the carpet.) As long as you have gloves and an electric screwdriver, this will take you minimal time to assemble (and I did it all by myself.) It is heavy, but I appreciate this--I wanted something substantial to support my mattress, not some flimsy pallet that would break the minute I laid down on it! It is substantial and seems like really good quality wood. One last note: the cover does just barely fit. I expected a big bag that would enclose the entire wooden structure, but it's really more like a fitted sheet that covers the top and sides. The drawstring seems unnecessary since the fit is so tight, so don't worry about needing to adjust it. Overall, this was a great choice! ... show more

  • This is exactly as promised
Easy assembly, exact replacement for a metal 52" wide box-spring. This took me about 20 minutes to assemble (I didn't use the tool they give you). The result is sleeping on a bed that makes NO noise! No real gotchas, but the cover is quite snug on the frame.

  • Good but not great. Cheaper and probably better options available at wholesale clubs
Size: Queen Style: Low Profile Wood
Costco sells 9" queen boxspring with wood/metal construction for around $109.99 but I needed a low profile <5" tall so I ordered this one. At $160 price point I would expect much better quality but that does not seem to be the case. Pros: - Straight forward assembly. - Cover fitting is perfect and Looks pretty - Full wood construction makes it easier to make DIY customization or even repairs incase any piece breaks in the future. Cons: - Entirely made of 1x1, 2x1, and 3x1" dimensional lumber. In reality these strips are only ~0.75" thick. - Slats are even thinner at only 0.6" thick due to heavy sanding. They are spaced too wide at about 3.8". At least they should have used 2-4 more slates to reduce the spacing to 2.25-2.5". - Bare minimum wood is used in stress points. Customization: I wasn't happy with only a single center support and 12 slates spaced at 3.8". So I ended up installing additional center support and 12 slates. Not to mention how difficult it is to find even a single furring strip that is straight, I ended up buying select whitewood strips that cost about 3 times more than furring but about 80% of them are straight. Six 2"x1"x10' strips to make 12 slates and two 3"x1"x8' to make additional center support. Since the provided slates are only 0.60" thick, I had to make about 0.15" deep grooves in 2x1 slates where they rest on the edge and center supports. That way new slates sit even with the existing slates. Over all it turned out pretty solid but at an additional cost of $60 plus about 6-8 hours of work. Summary: - The boxspring shipped may be sufficient for most users. - I wish they hadn't gone so cheap on material. With just additional $5 worth of more wood, they could have made this boxspring a lot more sturdier. - Not recommended for adults with total weight over 400 lbs. - Customization is possible to make it very sturdy but it wasn't straight forward due to the slates with non standard thickness. - Not the best but probably better than equivalent products sold at similar price point at local mattress store. If you want to spend less and still buy reliable product, I recommen to get boxspring from costco, BJ's, Sam's, or other wholesale clubs. You will get similar or better quality product at much lower price. ... show more
