  • Good Value for the Price!
For the longest time, I’d had an old mattress foundation that had slats a full 8 inches apart, and that squeaked whenever I’d get into bed or roll over. I finally got sick of it and started looking around for a replacement. Besides, I now have a memory foam mattress, and they recommend slats that are 3-4” apart to prolong the life of your mattress, so it really was time for an upgrade. The slats on this product are exactly 4.5” apart, so a bit larger than recommended, but close enough in my book. I was drawn to this product in general because it’s self-assembled, which means it can be disassembled for easy transport when I eventually move. Also, the wood is spruce instead of pine, for extra strength while still maintaining a relatively light weight. Assembly went pretty easily, but I used an electric screwdriver to put on the slats. The wood actually oozed some sticky sap on me (just in a few little parts), but it smelled nice so I didn't mind too much. After assembly, it feels very sturdy, and most importantly – it doesn’t squeak at all! Even when I roll around a lot, it’s still very quiet. My only complaint is the cover…it only covers the top half of the foundation (leaving the bottom open), and it would’ve been nice if it were a full cover. Oh well, can’t have it all, I suppose. This mattress foundation is a great value for the price (about $150 as of the time of writing this review). It’s sturdy, it works well, and it could be easily disassembled in case of a move. I’m pretty satisfied, and I’d definitely recommend it! ... show more

  • Very Pleased with a Great Product!!!
Well, I don't normally write reviews, but I felt the need to defend this product. I, like the rest of you, read the multitude of reviews about this product before purchasing. I was hesitant, but decided since it was a 4.4 out of 5 total, I would take the chance. Boy, am I glad I did. This product came to me in a compact box by FedEx. I brought it into my bedroom and began to unbox it. ALL of the parts necessary to assemble were included. There were even extra screws if you happen to lose some. I read about how rough and splintery the wood was. Hogwash; the wood was smooth and the edges of the wood were smoothed by the manufacturer using a router. All of the wood was the proper length and it fit together perfectly. I made sure while assembling to thoroughly secure the bolts and screws. Once assembled (by me) this foundation was more sturdy than the box springs I replaced. After I installed the cover, it looked better than the box springs. It fit perfectly in my bed and my memory foam mattress fit perfectly on top of it. When I installed the mattress and made the bed, I got into bed and heard 0 squeaks, creaks, or any other noise that others claimed to have heard. I take some of the complaints with a grain of salt, because the foundation I received was as advertised, easy to assemble, and exceeded my expectations. Some of the complaints, in my opinion, could have been caused by faulty assembly procedures. ... show more

  • I think this should work pretty good.
I just received this today and it took about 22 minutes to put together. I used a cordless drill for securing the screws and nuts to speed things along. Being a guy, I did not read any directions and had no questions or even issues as a result. This thing just couldn't be easier to put together. I bought the king size. I rarely give items 5 stars and I may adjust my stars up and down as time progresses and I actually use the product. I don't know a lot about different types of woods but I know a little. I would be very surprised if this is indeed spruce. It appears to really be more like cheap pine. Other than the screws and bolts I installed, everything is stapled. I wasn't impressed with the staples but I wasn't sure what to expect in the first place. I had two twisted up slats but with all the screws they are now flat. I felt the cover was very good quality and very easy to install. The cover lays over the top and down along the sides. I thought at first that this was going to be a complete cover like a bag and I thought that was going to be a big pain in the butt. The reason I got this is because my wife has restless legs and it keeps me up. I usually go out to the rv to sleep after a while of her kicking around. To help remedy bed movement I got rid of the cheaply made box springs that moved quite a bit. This helped with bed movement but now the mattress is 9 inches lower and my wife was a little pissed. I started looking for options online and came across products like this. With this product I still have a solid base and the mattress is raised back up to keep the wife's yapper shut. Even with the reduced movement when the mattress was just laying on the bed frame, there was movement enough to keep me up so we may go to a foam mattress that reduces movement much more. I mention the foam mattress because this foundation will support a foam mattress fully unlike many box springs. The king size has two side pieces where the notches are and the slats rest and are screwed into the side pieces. Being a king size this foundation has two supports that are spaced equally up and down the bed running head to toe. The slats run across these two supports so that the slats get 4 screws each going all the way across. I will try to attach some pictures but I don't know if it will work out. The frame is simple and if for some reason it loosens up there are many areas where screws can be installed or portions of it can easily be repaired with 2x4s. I modified my bed quite a while ago due to the poor support originally provided by the bed manufacturer. They only provided three thin slats going left to right with legs in the center going to the floor. I installed 1/2 or thicker (two pieces) of plywood that goes over these original supports and the new foundation rests on these two pieces of plywood so the load is spread out. I rolled around on the bed and got some creaking. This ended up being the way the plywood was bending slightly while laying on the original bed supports. I may just use 3-4 2x4's across the bottom of the bed, from one frame edge to the other in place of the original weaker supports. The immediate fix was to pry up the plywood and place pieces of cardboard between the supports of the bed and plywood. Again, this had nothing to do with the new foundation other than the new foundation was distributing weight differently than the previous set up. ... show more

  • Sturdy foundation that provides great support for our Helix mattress.
The bottomline: This foundation works as advertised and assembly is easily manageable with a little patience Some details: I was concerned that the frame might squeak or creak when used but we've had it about a week and it's been silent throughout. I've only heard a creak twice. Those were the very first time I hopped onto the mattress and one time that I plopped down on it's side to sit. Both times I was moving pretty quickly and landed on the bed suddenly so no surprise. I was concerned the support might be insufficient for the mattress. This has not been an issue. The California King now comes with two evenly spaced center beams for additional support and there are now 11 slats instead of 10. This means the spacing between slats is just slightly more than 4" which provides really good support. The open construction allows plenty of air to circulate which helps keep the mattress cool. Some negative reviews talk about unfinished wood, splinters, cracks in the wood, etc. The wood for our foundation was lightly sanded, I didn't need gloves, and I didn't have any problems with splinters. Would it have been possible? I'd guess so but it would have been a fluke or accident if I had gotten any. One slat showed some slight cracking along some of the grain but nothing that affected it's integrity. Get a socket wrench and an electric drill if you don't have one. Yes, you can put it together without these tools but you will save a boatload of time using them. There are now 44 screws which would have been very tedious turning by hand. With an electric drill and screwdriver attachment it was quick work. Likewise, tIghtening the 16 nuts and bolts holding the frame and support beams together was a lot easier with a socket wrench as well. All told, I'd guess I spent an hour laying out the materials and assembling everything myself. I intentionally was taking my time and checking things twice before putting it together. Partially tighten the nuts and bolts all the way around before finalizing. I read this in another review and it is good advice to ensure a nice, tight construction. Come back for the final tightening after all sections have been assembled. Also, note that the center supports are marked, "This Side Up" on one side. Be sure to look for that prior to assembling. That's about it. I'm glad we bought this foundation. I only wish I had done this years ago. ... show more

  • Very good, inexpensive base for your mattress in a box
My wife and I got a king mattress in a box and a bed frame to match. The description of the frame indicated that we would not need a base for the bed but they were wrong, so we got this box spring in a box (specifically because it's made of wood). I ordered the king size. It went together very easy, especially since I used a drill. The most "difficult" part was screwing the slats to the frame (hence, drill) which they suggest using a screw driver for lol. All other parts are bolted on and the tools are provided for that. Probably took 20 minutes max to assemble. The king has two support beams in the middle which I was very happy to find. Before I ordered I was more skeptical about the slats and how many there would be but it came with a good amount (I wasnt too afraid to go to a hardware store and buy/cut wood for more slats but I didnt need to). Not much else to say about assembly, it was straight forward. As soon as I laid down I could tell there was great support, this frame was just what we needed: a base. A couple more nights passed and I made this review; it is a great base, especially for the money. As I said before, our frame said we wouldnt need a base but after getting this frame there is a welcome and noticeable difference. Now for the bad. The only negative I could think of was the cover: it's akin to a bed sheet. It's thick and all that good stuff, but it goes on top of the frame and there's a drawstring to tighten the cover over the frame. I was expecting something more like a pillow case the covered top and bottom. I have recommended this to people already and would absolutely buy it again. ... show more

  • Sceptacle
We purchased a mattress and box spring set that we thought was a great deal and comfortable. After a few weeks the box spring started to squeak. We opened a corner and looked at it. There was plastic in the corners and it was stapled, yes, stapled together. And, there was no boards in the middle for support. I was so mad and felt ripped off. We still loved the mattress and thought it was a good deal. So, found this on Amazon and thought I would try it. It was easy and fast to put together (hated the wrench given so used my own). Like the cover. Love that it is substantial. My husband is over 6 foot tall and average weight, but I am, well, a big girl. So, just to let you know after six months, it is still going strong and I don't anticipate any problems and no squeaks (but if it did, a quick turn of the wrench - problem would be solved - not possible with other box spring types). One more thing, I knew someone who had a bed bug scare some time back. This would be perfect for a rental when you need to check the beds since the cover comes off and would be easy to clean the cover and boards, if needed. Huge plus in my book. ... show more

  • Wonderful answer to a too small doorway
I just got this box spring today. I was going to wait for my man to come home to help me but I decided to give it a go at assembling it myself. It was very easy. So easy and quick that I have time to come downstairs and write a review and mock all the complaints for this product. I've read reviews saying they didn't get instructions included and really you don't need them. I constructed more complex Lincoln Log structures when I was 6 and had a fever. I just paid attention to where the groves were for where the cross slats would have to fit. I realized very quickly that I needed to turn the center board upside down from how I had it because there needed to be space for those said cross planks to fit. Yeah, the wood is rough. I don't know what posh, complaint-filled lifestyle people are used to, but this wood is never meant to be seen. This product comes with a cover included. The short amount of time you will be spending looking at it or touching it is very minimal. Maybe even less if you can get over yourself and just put the frame together. "Oh god! I got a splitter!" Yes, you are the reason we have to put warning labels all over everything. It's bed frame that goes over your mattress. You will have 12" of your high-end Beauty Rest between you and that nasty, mean, bad old wood. (And is it spruce? Is it pine??? Again, who cares?) I'm pretty sure you won't have restless nights, tossing your Princess and the Pea butt around, uncomfortable because you can <harsh, dramatic whisper> ...FEEL THE SPLINTERS. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. I would recommend this product to friends and loved ones. And I will sleep good at night. ... show more

  • See Update. Good Quality, Easy Assembly, Sturdy, Quiet
Update 5/2021: I ordered the low profile 4” foundation. It is actually 5.5” high and the 8” foundation I already had is actually 7.5”. Be aware if working w tight measurements/requirements. I was so pleased w quality of taller foundation, I ordered the 4” low profile. It caused problems of things not fitting w other furniture. For this I’ve knocked off a star. Note: The quality of the low profile foundation is just as good as the taller one so you’re flexible on the height, it’s great. I have had this (Classic Brands 8” high profile foundation) for almost 2 years & sleep on it every night. From the start, everything about it was quality and included everything. Super easy to put together and, yes, I “cheated” by using power screwdriver, haha! I was going to add more slats in between the existing because the gaps are rather wide but never got around to it. My memory foam mattress has been just fine on this foundation. If you’re a little handy, adding slats is not hard. After moving & finding that I need to raise my already tall bed to use space underneath, I’m going to get this same thing in the low profile 4” high version. Oh, and I don’t get any benefit from posting a review...I put complete product names in because so many times when I read reviews it seems obvious there were/are multiple products all under the same product review. I never used to write reviews but thought I really should since so many others’ reviews have helped me. : ) ... show more
