This is a dandy little engine but there is a lot that the description lacks. Important information left out Shaft diameter: 20mm or 0.787" Shaft length: 48mm or 1.889" Shaft to base height: 127.8mm or 4.995" Shaft rotation: CCW To start, add 10w-30 oil and diesel, turn crank with compression release lever down until the lever stays down. Loosen speed knob and move down to set screw, retighten, pull crank rope fast. If it doesn't start on the first pull, repeat the compression release step and pull again. ... show more

So, a few things. I haven't run this motor yet so I cannot comment on how it functions. ***UPDATE BELOW*** I have completely disassembled this motor to make sure everything was torqued correctly, within adjustment and without damage. What I found: -Bolt torque values were all over the place. -Piston ring gap may be a bit on the tight side, barely within the lower value of .010 but on the advise of a diesel mechanic I will leave it be. -Valves were not set correctly, adjustment is simple. -Output shaft is 20mm which was expected. The shaft seems to be slightly shorter than a typical gas gx200 clone style motor. In my application I wanted the shaft to be 3/4", so while disassembled I had a crank machine shop turn down the diameter. Cost me 20 bucks. -Motor appears to be a second generation 168fd, differing from others you may see for sale. One difference is the fuel pump is mounted to the crankcase cover on this 2nd gen vs mounted to the crankcase on the other variations. Also, lots more English on the printing of the stickers and manual which is a plus. -Fuel filter mounted inline was installed backwards. -Looks like the governor "fork" only maxes out the fuel pump halfway, there may be some adjustment there. Do at your own risk! -Looks to be compatible with a variety of gx200 style gaskets, rings and parts. Unconfirmed. In my project I plan to use a 30 series Clone torque converter and D-N-R gearbox. I'll also be fabricating my own exhaust manifold and pipe as well as intake. All in all, it came as expected, packaged well and parts seem very well manufactured. Seems to have been assembled by a bunch of monkeys but at a hundred and fifty bucks something had to give. I will update this review with any further observations as this project gets completed. Should you buy this? ABSOLUTELY! I want another one! Get it while the prices are this low and they are available! ***EDIT*** Filled with fluids, engine mounted with FNR gearbox underneath for a go kart firetruck powerwheels project. Ran it at idle for an hour with no issues, time will ultimately tell. Throttle is responsive, no leaks after rebuild, pretty impressed so far. Going to take it easy and change the oil a few times before the maiden voyage. ***THINGS TO NOTE*** -Engine oil used, FRAM Diesel Engine oil, 15-40. One liter of oil, or roughly 870g by weight. This puts the oil halfway on dipstick. -The starting procedure in the other comment is slightly incorrect. The proper starting procedure is to turn the engine over slowly until the compression stroke, THEN press the decompression lever once so it keeps itself in the downward position before giving it a good yank. I was able to start mine at 40°F ambient garage temperature at half throttle on a single pull once primed and set. -Also, if you are priming the high compression fuel line where it meets the injector on first start up, be sure to have the fuel/throttle lever set on or else the pump will be in the shut off position and won't send fuel down the line. You can pull all day waiting for fuel to get to the top but it never will, ask me how I know! Haha SOMEONE SEND ONE OF THESE TO PROJECT FARM ON YOUTUBE! Been a fun project so far, for very little money too. I expect it to let me down someday but at this price it's not a huge loss and parts seem to be available. If you love to tinker, you'll probably have a better experience. If you're not mechanically inclined or don't like working on your own stuff you might have a rough time. Just be sure to temper your expectations ... show more
