Wow, my husband and I absolutely love this knife set! We are both retired, both cook often, and was looking for a good knife set with good gripping handles, self-sharpening, and had good-sized steak knives. And boy, did we find it with this product! We have only had this set a week, but so far, we love it! (I will update my review, if anything changes.) We have been hand-washing them and then drying with a cloth and leaving them on our drying mat overnight to air dry thoroughly, before placing them back in the knife block. We purchased the 14-piece set and it fits very nicely on our counter, without taking up much room. I really wanted the 20-piece set so that we would have 8 steak knives, instead of just the 6. However, after reading the reviews of how big the block was on the larger set, and me not being able to find the dimensions of the block anywhere, I opted for the smaller 14-piece set. All the knives state they were made in India, and the shears and black wood block was made in China. This is truly a beautiful set. We have been delighted at how sharp these knives are and highly recommend this set! (Just a side note, the box states there is a “prep knife,” but on the wood block it states it as a “utility” knife.)

This 20-piece knife set offers excellent value for the price. The knives are remarkably sharp, making food preparation a breeze. However, I've noticed that the blades tend to stain easily, even with prompt washing. This is a bit disappointing aesthetically, but doesn't affect their performance. The variety of knives included is comprehensive, covering most kitchen needs. Despite the staining issue, the sharpness and overall quality make this set a solid choice for those seeking a budget-friendly but functional knife collection.

So first off, yes, they are made in China. Henckles are made in China and Spain to help cut production costs, these aren't the higher end Zwilling knives made in Solingen, Germany, but they are quality. Great carbon steel knives that work well for the home cook. I love the sharpness right out of the box, it makes it great for slicing and cutting whatever you need to. The block in my opinion is a little big, but I do have a large kitchen so counterspace is a luxury I have. In a smaller kitchen I would try to find a way to place them to maximize my space. One of my biggest complaints is they don't hold an edge as long as expected. I was expecting the edge to last longer. The built in sharpener works okay at best, so I would recommend getting an actual sharpener. I picked up a simple Henckles one and it works fine. Overall, it is a great value for the price, and would be great for the home cook. The handles feel great, good weight, and cuts well.

I've never owned Henckels knives before, but so far they have been simply amazing. We replaced an old set of cheap Chicago Cutlery knives with this set and so far have been extremely impressed with their feel, construction, durability, and cutting performance. Even though they are made in China (as most things are), you can tell that they are far superior to the majority of cheaper sets that are the same price that these were on sale for at the time I bought them (66% off the normal price of $650). It's so nice to have pairing, prep, etc. knives that can cut through most fruits with simply the weight of the blade and minimal effort. The self-sharpening block I was mostly skeptical of at first has so far in the few months we have owned them kept the knives like-new sharp, but time will tell. So far I have no complaints, but we'll see how things go in a year from now.
