I really wanted to love this because I bought it specifically so my son and I could make some books and planners together, but my first experience was definitely more “wrestling match” than “DIY craft project.” 😂 The included boards are SO thick that I had to put basically my entire body weight on the handle to punch through them. Definitely not the effortless little flick of the wrist shown in the video. 😂 I don't know if this is because the machine is brand new and needs to loosen up, so I'm not ready to completely write it off yet. It also left an oily residue around the punched holes, which I'm hoping will stop after it has been used a few more times. The included boards don't fit the way I wanted them to, so I cut them in half. I quickly learned that lining everything up correctly is REALLY important because the holes are off-center if you don't position everything just right. My first attempt at actually binding something was... well, let's just say “wrangled mess” is being generous. 😂 I'm going to keep messing with it because I really want this to work. Hopefully it gets easier with practice and use. One thing I do know already: my son isn't going to be able to use the handle himself right now. I picked this up specifically to make custom fantasy journals, spellbooks, and magical notepads in my craft room, and it has been such a wonderful addition to my maker space. I have always loved Heidi Swapp products, and this machine is no exception. Beyond what it can do, it is honestly just a gorgeous piece of equipment to have sitting on the desk with its pretty pastel color scheme and clean look. When it comes to using it, you do need to put some real elbow grease into the lever when punching through heavier book boards or thicker cardstock, but this machine is quite durable! I found that working in slightly smaller page stacks makes the punch much smoother and keeps everything crisp. Once the holes are punched, closing the twin-loop wires is pretty simple, and the finished binding looks completely professional! It's so rewarding to see your idea become real! It lets me take all of my foiled covers, parchment pages, and custom designs and bind them into actual fantasy books with ease. It is a fantastic tool for any enthusiastic crafter!

The video for this does a great job explaining how it works, much better than I could type out. After watching that, I was surprised at how easy this binding machine is to use. It comes in a nice box that would be great if you are giving this as a gift or just want to have a place to store it. It’s heavy duty, the machine itsself is pretty heavy so it doesn’t slide around when you are using it. It has a strap on it that keeps the handle down which is nice. It comes with a pair of pliers, heavy cardstock, instructions and 20 different coils for your projects. The coils are in a variety of colors. If you like crafting or want to get started, this would be a good craft binding machine to get started with.

I was honestly surprised by how substantial this binding machine is when I took it out of the box. It’s heavy, sturdy, and feels like a real piece of equipment—not one of those lightweight craft machines that feels like you have to be careful with it. Everything about it feels really well made. I am not sure if this is a genuine product. It sure doesn't seem like it is. The one review should have been a clue and I cannot find any other images or tutorials with this particular item. Even the literature seems like a knockoff. Everything just looks and feels generic. Everything Heidi does is centered around the cinch binding. Nowhere on machine or book or box does it say cinch

This is my first time trying a bookbinding machine, and I have to say—it’s a solid, well-made piece of equipment! Everything listed came in the box, including the pliers (which is such a thoughtful addition for anyone who doesn’t already own a pair). The machine itself feels sturdy and durable, with both metal and plastic parts that are definitely high quality—not flimsy or cheap. It even came oiled and ready to go, which shows attention to detail. I did a quick test run with a piece of paper and messed it up, but that was definitely user error. The directions aren’t the most beginner-friendly, so I’ll need to go back and re-read them before trying again. Once I get the hang of it, I’m sure it’ll be easier. The alignment chart and adjustable knobs are helpful, though it takes a little practice to understand how everything works together. The metal binding coils are excellent quality—strong and smooth, not the thin, bendy kind you sometimes find in store-bought notebooks.
