I have on occasion needed to pull out a fence post for replacement, and in the past I've used a farm jack along with a tow chain, which gets the job done but is a bit unwieldy thanks to the excess length and weight of the tow chain. Plus a chain can't easily tighten on itself as you jack up the post, so it can be hard to get a solid grip on the post. This cable/chain puller setup gives the best of both worlds--a smooth cable that can be wrapped around the post and tighten its grip on the post, combined with a stout chain that can attach to the high-lift jack. I haven't needed to yank anything out of the ground quite yet, but with spring arriving, I may need to make some fence repairs. This would also be good for pulling out dead shrubs. While I haven't tested it, this certainly feels like it'll handle just about any load that you could put on it with a typical farm jack. I guess the included work gloves are a nice freebie, but frankly I would rather sellers not include gloves and pass the small savings on to us buyers. If you're buying a setup like this, I'm guessing you already have work gloves, and they're likely to fit you better than a one-size-fits-all set of cheap work gloves (I'd guess the gloves are a size large, which is a little too large for my hands). I wish the company would make a set like this but with a longer cable section that would be long enough to wrap around the concrete base of a post, seeing as I sometimes need to be able to pull the post base out of the ground after the post has rotted away and there's no post to attach this shorter cable to.

I picked up this post puller kit to deal with some old fence posts, and it made a job I was dreading way easier. Instead of digging everything out by hand, I just hooked it up to my jeep jack and lifted—simple as that. The cable and chain feel really solid, and the snare-style design actually grips the post tight without slipping, which was a big improvement over using a regular chain. The only drawback is it is almost too strong on deteriorated posts and will snap them as it tightens up. I’ve used it on a mix of wood and metal posts, even a stubborn one set in concrete, and it handled them without much trouble. It’s also surprisingly lightweight, so it’s easy to carry around the property, and the included gloves are a nice bonus. Overall, it’s a practical tool that saves a lot of time and effort if you’re doing any kind of fence repair or removal.
