You can easily tell which mode you are on because there are lights on the front of the jacket. I use the Red setting for mornings and the green for when I'm in my room. Our family has fun buying him velcro patches for the sleeves, too, which make him chuckle. He likes having the extra pockets and they keep his hands warm, too. This is a great quality jacket with lots of pockets, and it seems to be well made. It heats up really quickly! I love that there are three different temperature settings. I haven’t dreaded the winter as much having this jacket. The battery is a tad heavy and takes a while to charge, but it lasts for a good amount of time as well. Bought this for hunting and now I wear it everyday. Its very warm when turned on and also nice for fall/spring weather when it is off. The battery is a little clunky, but you get used to it. My only knock is that there was a hole in the front pocket. I decided it wasn't too bad, but the hole has gotten a lot bigger in the month I've had it and it's too late to return. I’ve tried several brands and this has been the best. The overall quality of this is very good, but most importantly is that it keeps me warm! The battery life is excellent and the best one I’ve used! I have usually used a low setting for most of my work shift, but will occasionally switch to a medium one, and it lasts my entire 8 hour shift. I do have this worn under a parka style coat, but that coat is provided by work and rather thin. Today it was 34° out and the battery still has 43% left.
