Well, after reading almost all the reviews, many of which either loved this heater, or advised to avoid it at all cost, I decided to give it a try. For 12 years, I have been heating my plunge spa with a Hayward heat pump, and while it worked, it was super slow to heat in the spring and the fall. I chose the smallest propane heater I could find, as my pool is only 10' by 10' by 4' with an infinity edge. Plumbing it in was pretty straight forward. This little heater roared to life and I went from a 1 degree increase every hour with the heat pump, to 1 degree every 10 minutes. It has worked flawlessly since the install 4 months ago, and I hope it will continue. When it fires up, it has a low rumble, and the water is very noticeably hot. It only kicks on a couple of times a day. Thought I would give it a thumbs up to counter all the negative reviews. UPDATE Feb 2022: After 2 seasons, this little guy has worked perfectly. Stopped working after one season! Costly warm swim! Buy a different brand! Seller first said they’d replace, then changed their mind after we gave them a favorable review! Then they said they would NOT return item because it was after 30 days! What a $3,400 joke!

Price was the beast I could find on the internet. It was not too hard to install, but I had help from a friend, that is a licensed plumber, and my Brother in law who is a licensed electrician. So I was basically muscle and tool getter. After going crazy with the LO code. I finally watched a video and it explained that the problem was LOW WATER PRESSURE. I went through every water line and after fully taking apart my filter, and cleaning it, the heater worked as expected!!! Quick review... bought the 150,000 btu version works great so far heats 26 ft above ground pool but uses gas quicker then I expected and I did my research. Long review... Well we took the plunge so to speak and bought this bad boy to heat our 26 ft above ground pool about 18,000 gallons. Arrived when it said it would, nothing broken looks great. We don't have a natural gas supply to the neighborhood and propane delivery prices are about $1.50 more a gallon then going to the store and filling it yourself so I figured I'll just get two 40 lb tanks (twice the size of a normal bbq tank) a high flow regulator (designed for 200,000 btus) some 3/4" gas line and we should be golden. Seems like a great idea but this thing uses fuel so quickly (when on constantly for initial warm up) that the tank freezes over and looses pressure because the liquid propane is to cold to turn to a gas. My solution was place the tank and a tub of pool temp water, seems to work I can get about 75% of the tank before it creates an iceberg on the bottom of the tank. I am hoping that once to temp and it's a hot summer day here in Washington state fuel use will be much less and the freezing will not be a problem.     • Known Defective Product. No Real Customer Support

Product was received and installed by me. Simple enough; two water connects, a single gas connection, and single power connection. The unit would not get through it's start check, insufficient pressure from the blower. Call to Hayward tech/customer support was worthless. Would not tell me pressure/setting required or anything else. Only response was to "call authorized dealer". That tech came out, stated quickly that he'd seen a rash of bad blowers on new units lately and would have to order one. Obviously this is a known quality issue. He also stated the blower was affecting thr control electronics and display through the ground. Two service calls, > one month delay and $290 more was needed to correct a quality control issue on a new unit. If Hatward isn't going to stand behind their products and only recommend "call a service center" for an obviously defective product , they shouldn't be sold here. ... show more

I had to install the include air plate for a high altitude installation, and reverse the water header. Both were straight forward. After correcting a wiring error on my part, the heater started up first try. It rumbles quite a bit more than the previous Pentair, but I rather like it ;)
