I'm a fan of the Harry Potter books haven't gotten to these projects yet, but patterns look easy enough. A downfall...get a better hook. The one this comes with is flimsy plastic shaped like a wand, so fun to keep as a novelty.

The media could not be loaded. I love it! It is so cute and give you all the directions you need to create 2 characters. I just now started them and it seems to be simple enough with the directions.

I purchased this kit for $15.95 (reduced from full price of $24.95). As noted in the description, the kit contains materials to crochet only Harry and Dobby. The yarn is very poor quality – I touched it and threw it away. Apparently, some kits contained a crochet hook fashioned as a wand – I did not receive that hook, which is fine – I use Clover hooks. I purchased enough Lizbeth crochet thread size 3 (and additional materials) to crochet all 13 characters plus 3 each of the student robe and scarf – spending well over $150. The pattern book is very good. Instructions are clear and easy to follow – with excellent how-to photographs. Overall, these are much better directions than two other “official” Harry Potter crochet books that display only lovely images of the finished items. I am an advanced crocheter – I made a few adjustments and added an occasional embellishment. Even though the stitches are basic (mostly single crochet and variations thereof), I don’t suggest this kit for beginner crocheters – the crochet is almost secondary to the high levels of patience, precision and diligence required to complete each amigurumi piece. I spent 15 to 20 hours crocheting each character. Additionally, if you have arthritic hands and fingers, this project may be a painful exercise. I highly recommend accessing the designer’s website – do an internet search for Lucy Collin Crochet. Don’t be misled if you end up at Luch Ravenscar – that’s her. At any rate, Lucy’s blog details corrections to errors in the patterns (there are only a few) and which yarns she used when making the Harry Potter Amigurumi figures (which are much better quality than those included in the kit). Lucy also has an Instagram page and she is on Ravelry. Ravelry is a good place to view photos of other crocheters’ work on this project. My opinion, in summary: *This kit is not for beginners. *The pattern book alone is worth the $15.95 that I spent on it. *Check out the designer’s website. *The reason why I gave this kit a 4 and not a 5: The materials are inferior; it is necessary to purchase additional and decent materials. However, if I were rating only the book – and not the kit – I would give the book a 5. P.S. My review includes a photograph of the figures I crocheted using all the patterns in Lucy Collin’s book, and also (1) the Sorting Hat I crocheted using the pattern from Lee Satori’s Harry Potter Crochet Wizardry, and (2) the Harry Potter Hardcover Boxed Set containing books 1 through 7 in a truck-like box.

I bought this kit super excited to start making these super cute Harry Potter characters but it’s honestly ALOT harder than I expected. Mind you I’m a newbie so I’m not super experienced at crotchet, so maybe it just takes way more practice, but even then it’s difficult. I also didn’t like how the book had too many abbreviations, and not really detailed on how to do the specific stitches. I guess I just expected the instructions to be clearer than they were. If you’re new at crotchet, I wouldn’t get this with the expectation to make these correctly

Perfect to teach your kiddos how to crochet. Directions are good (IF you are already an established crocheter - might be harder if you don't already know where to start), yarn is decent. The fact that the hook is a wand - perfection! The little stuffies you make with these turn out super cute.
