As well as being an invaluable skill and a relaxing hobby, machine sewing is a great way of being kind to the planet by upcycling scraps of fabric. • Nice!!
Exactly what I was looking for.

  • easy to understand, helpful illustrations
This book is giving me the inspiration I need to dust off my grandmothers sewing machine and get back to sewing. There is a great variety of projects: garments, bags, interesting things for the house (the plant pot covers are unexpected and look especially nice!). I really like how most of the projects are quite flexible and there are easy instructions for how to adapt (like for the seat covers and the pillow). I also really appreciate the how-to "workshop" section at the end... instead of having those key skills buried within the instructions, it makes much more sense to have this handy reference at the end. The "workshop" section had the clearest explanation for how to put in zippers in that I have seen (for some reason that has always seemed very difficult to me!!). ... show more

  • A Must-Have for Beginners
I found this book to be full of easy-to-follow instructions on the basics with plenty of tips and tricks to help guide your way. It's also chock full of creative ideas, from the plush tote (adorable) to the bucket cat (tres chic), from a pet bed (essential) to a simple seat pad. The photos and illustrations are right-sized and helpful. One of the things that I really like about this book is that the instructions don't go on for pages -- two pages at the most -- which I find really accessible and not overly detailed in a way that could deter a beginner. There are so many great sewing projects in this book that I think even a more experienced sewer would find something to create. Happy Sewing! ... show more
