Something Changed
When I first bought this around 2019, I thought it was the best gadget I ever used. You just squeezed the separator with the black knobs scraping on your coffee filter and like magic ONE filter came loose and you didn't have to lick your fingers to get just one filter. I was so impressed I gave them as gifts to my daughters and they just raved about them. When one broke I just ordered another one. But for some reason I haven't been able to figure out, it wouldn't pick up a filter. The black knobs just slide across the filter and doesn't pick it up. It looks the same and feels the same but it doesn't work. I was so disappointed. I wish the company could tell me what they are doing differently so I could tell them to stop and go back to the way they originally made them because when it works correctly, it is the best little gadget to separate coffee filters.

Works
I love this little tool; you can grab the filter and place it in the basket without ever touching the filter.

Quality has dropped. They don't work like their former ones
8-23-20, 3rd purchase and review of this item. As with everything anymore, the quality has dropped, and the product is now useless. The plastic is stiffer, and the black rubber grippers are now a hard plastic that has no grip. Even though these were pricey, they used to work, so I made sure to order from the same place each time. Waste of money. Updating this to 5 stars, even though I just had to replace the first one. It broke in half after a couple of years of daily use. The next three days were miserable, as I waited for the new one! I have determined I cannot survive without this amazing little tool in my filter box! Got my new one, and life is good again! Ok, at first I thought it wasn't working, but once I learned how to use it, it's great. Filters come out perfect. I just had to learn to push down as I pinched it together.

Nope, can't recommend.
Absolutely useless. The rubber tips are too "hard" and just slide on the filters. Don't waste your money.

The new tips don't work!
This is my second one. After a year the first one broke in two pieces. But I liked the way it worked. After reading recent reviews I found some complained that the rubber tips didn't grab the filters, simply sliding across it. I decided to take a chance and ordered a new one. When it arrived, I tried it and found it wouldn't pick up a filter. Examining the tips, I saw that they have changed to a harder rubber! Evidently they haven't even tested their new supply of tips! Thanks to those previous reviewers, I saved my broken one, and removed the old tips. They came off quite easily, but removing the new ones was quite difficult due to the much stiffer rubber. With the old tips on the new one it works as good as the old one. Wouldn't recommend buying this if you don't have old tips like I did! Would give it one star if a first time buyer.

problem solved!
i'm not a gadget guy at all, i think most gadgets are a stupid waste of money, and most don't work. being an old-school coffee guy (grind my own beans, drip coffee maker, etc.) i deal with these filters all the time and i gotta say that separating those filters is a HUGE pain in the butt. then i came across this thing. looks intriguing so i figured it was worth the $5 investment assuming if the thing worked AT ALL it would be a big time saver as well as saving me a lot of aggravation dealing with filters that don't want to come apart. so i got the thing and all i gotta say is WOW! this this is amazing and totally delivers on every front. it's super easy to use and really exceeds all expectations.

Tips do not meet, so this item is useless
I have been using this particular coffee filter separator for decades. My last one broke after years of service, so I ordered a new one from Amazon. To my surprise, the rubber tips of the new one didn't touch at the tip and the separator was unable to pick up a filter. I returned that one to Amazon and got a replacement. This newest one has the same problem - the rubber tips do NOT meet at the tip, making it impossible to pick up a filter. Amazon refunded my money, but I'm very disappointed in these filter separators now. They look identical to all the ones I have ever bought before, but they are unusable.
