First, this is a practice mute. Not a performance mute. It sole purpose is to quite your horn so you can play full force and not blast out the neighbors. I would say that you get probably 15% normal volume when you use this mute. So just practicing normal tones with a closed bedroom door between you and the parents should keep the noise away from them so they don't have to turn up the TV volume. lol Secondly, there is a small resistance to your playing. It is very slight but you can feel it at full volume. Think of it as a runner wearing weights during his practice and then when he takes the weights of he can run even faster. The bit of resistance is a good thing to warmup with or even do your full practice with because when you take the mute out Ba da der der! It feels like you just got a second wind. With frequent use during practice I can see this strengthening my lung and playing power. Good investment for a student player that is for sure.

Our trumpet teacher has been teaching and playing for over 50 years. This is the mute he recommended for our middle school band student. I don’t know anything about trumpet mutes and brands, but this sounds great and seems high quality. We were surprised by how light it felt.
