    • One of the best Chromecast audio speakers--when on sale
Considering these are sold as a single speaker, these are pricey at full price. A single speaker can fill modest rooms or bigger ones with lower expectations. A pair will excel in both regards, but at twice the price. When these can be found for half off (ie $150) or less, they become much more compelling, so much so that I have three pairs (and a pair of Omni 10+). The audio quality is up to any streaming service, and the overall sound is robust. It's not going to do the best highs or the best lows, but for most music, these are fine. I use these as pairs and as a part of Chromecast speaker groups, and it's always a great experience. I like the wired option, as I tend to prefer that simplicity vs wireless, but both options exist. The app is OK, and when I ran into issue, their support was eager to help. Once these are set up, you can ignore their app and primarily use any "casting" app and Google Home to configure. I have a pair of Raumfeld Chromecast speakers that cost over $300, and a pair of these sounds every bit as good, though they come in a nice metal enclosure where HK gives you plastic. Highly recommended if you're invested in Google's home audio world and can get for less than $150 each. Not so much at full price or for Alexa. ... show more

So after buying the onyx 4 which was awesome, i saw this for 100, basically 75% off and said ill do it. What i discovered is this really is heavily focused on music streamed from the internet. I tried using the bluetooth streaming from the music stored locally on my phone and the first thing i noticed was, it sounded like a kid screaming into a fan. It was crazy. I then played the same song (Christopher Tin's "Ki Hora Te Marino" in FLAC), via the HK app on my phone through the WiFi connection and it sounded perfect. It seem whatever codec the speaker is using as the back end for the BT streaming is just garbage or the BT decoder built into the speaker is terrible. I tried using a 3rd party DLNA casting app (HiFi Cast) to send music via WiFi to the speaker, but that is seriously hit or miss depending on format and how the devices work together. Even with Amazon music, the streaming is stuttery and buggy. I you leave the app the audio stutters. If you adjust the volume the audio will stutter. The HK app works the best for WiFi streaming of local audio to the phone, however, it cannot read large album art over 800x800px. Also, the actual playback features are soso, no sleeptimer, limited eq options. That all said, the bass on this is tremendous and the detail and clarity is nothing short of impressive given the size and nature of the device in question. If you can get this speaker less than MSRP, for me it was $100 usd, its a good buy for WiFi streaming ONLY but if your primary streaming method is BT, look elsewhere. Updated this to ONE STAR. I tried watching a video over bt from my phone only to realize the audio and video were out of sync. I also checked a few other devices that use the same SBC codec as the Omni 20+, and they all sound enormously better than this thing over bluetooth. I honestly want to return this and get my money back, but if i do ill have to pay shipping back from the caribbean and that will cost as much as the actual speaker itself. So thats a nogo, unless amazon or harman pays shipping. ... show more

Overall, I'm happy with this device. Pros: The sound is great, the fact that it supports both bluetooth and chromecast is exactly what I needed and it works well. The wifi range is just OK. It works on both the 2.4 and 5GHz ranges, but dealing with a floor and some walls between it and the router, it had to be within 10 feet directionally of the antenna. Cons: The app needed to configure the device is NOT on Google play store and you need to download the APK directly from Harmon's website. This is NOT in the instructions and required some additional work to find. Harman should be ashamed of this as it makes them look completely inept and probably causes significant amount of these devices to be returned. If Harman fixes this app problem, this would be a 5 star product. It should be considered unacceptable that a company produces an app that cant be included in the play store at this point. ... show more

This is a remarkable speaker for it's size, it had a classic JBL sound. I bought a pair to hook up in stereo, and they really fill up the living room. Is does not, however connect wirelessly to Alexa, I hope they change that. Amazing bargain, nothing else touches it at it's current price! You must turn off your phone's wifi, I mean the 4G or whatever, or it will not link the speakers to your home wifi. ... show more
