Description

Size:1 Pack Handy Flux is a very durable and powerful general purpose flux that protects your parts up to 1600 degrees Fahrenheit (870 degrees Celsius). It is an active fluoride-type flux which is appropriate for all nonferrous metals and begins to melt and dissolve oxides at 600 degrees Fahrenheit (320 degrees Celsius). Paste formula can be cleaned up with hot water. 7 oz jar with brush.

Beware of seller’s ‘NO RETURN policy’ even on defective product. I purchased this flux but it was old and really dried out. The flux was so thick it was impossible to apply evenly. It was just clumpy and a total waste of money, time and effort. Solder wouldn’t flow at all, leaving a mess of poorly bonded metal and flux residue to clean up in order to start over. I ordered this not even reading the reviews. After I got it and opened it I noticed it look like a stick of deodorant. I hopped on to read reviews and alot of people also had similar issues. I took it inside and read the back. **First thing is says to do is too stir the product. The brush wouldn't move in the jar so I used a small spoon and stirred it up really good! I am an experienced artist doing a lot of work in copper. I tried using this flux to solder a solid copper ring I made to a piece of sheet copper. I could not make the solder flow. I experimented with other pieces of copper using different gases and tips trying to find the right temperature to make it work. No luck. Wiped the junk off the ring and sheet copper. I tried to use this flux for jewelry making on copper tape and it did not work for me. Granted I'm just starting out and perhaps made some errors, but when I switched to the hypodermic needle style flux it worked perfectly. Perhaps it needed to be thoroughly mixed with the included brush? I didn't do that. But the solder just beaded up and rolled off when I tried to use it. Totally dried up and worthless. I’m out the cost plus my time trying to restore it, a mess of solder and torch gas and frustration with this product. My regret is that I can’t return it for money back. Must have been sent old, old, old shelf stock. Shame on you.

I like this product, brand not available from my local supplier. Since I make jewelry and do fine soldering, the brush is way too large for this purpose. I bought flux brushes that suit my application from Rio Grande.

Very thick ... I’m not sure if this is because it has been sitting around, but I did have to thin it a bit to use. The brush bristles are warped and useless for small items, so I use a small paintbrush to apply. It was a good thing the bottle was shipped in a ziplock baggie ... there was crusty, dried flux all over the inside of the baggie due to loose cap.
