First, the 500 games is simply false. Yes, there are 500 in the menu, but most of the list repeats. Still, I would say 250-300 games. How many of those are playable? Well, it would take a long time of trying them all to see. Some are pretty good ports of licensed Konami or Nintendo games. Some I recognize, some I haven't got a clue. A few seem useless and unplayable unless perhaps there are instructions somewhere on the net, as you are not given any instructions. I can see myself taking a mindless game break and playing some Dig Dug or Super Mario Brothers or Donkey Kong. There's a TMNT game and a Goonies game that are probably ports of the real games. In many cases, you will need trial and error or maybe seeing if you can find any guidance on what the buttons do online. You always first select between Chinese and English, but that only affects the menu language and the game text for some games is not English. I haven't played any one game enough to know if the full game is there in each case, or just a few levels. The game display on the handheld unit is so-so. It's OK for things like Dig Dug. I did try hooking it up to our 50" plasma TV and, surprisingly, it looked good (relatively speaking) and was very playable with a reasonably long cord. Given the choice that's probably how I'd play. Sound also comes through the TV well and the game music and sounds do sound like those that I remember playing on Nintendo, etc. We also tried the Player 2 controller and, where 2 player games were available, it worked fine. We didn't really know what we were doing, but had fun playing Snow Brothers for a while. The unit itself is light and feels very flimsy. The buttons and controls are equally cheap feeling. The main controller has a thumb joystick sort of control over the D-pad, but I haven't been able to use it very effectively on any games, yet, as it moves badly so I have stuck with the D-pad. If playing on the TV, I don't know what happens when the battery runs out, when using the onboard display it starts to grow dim, so that makes it obvious when you need to charge. When charging, there is a red light, but I let it initially charge overnight and the light was always on, so I don't know how to tell when it's charged. In general, this might be fun for some kids or retro playing adults, especially if they remember playing the games in the arcade or on old consoles. Compared to modern consoles or even cell phones, I don't know that many kids would be too impressed by most of these games unless they get a kick out of retro stuff.

This little handheld game console isn't anything fancy nor are the games provided. The games are mostly basic, older games that kids these days may not have heard of. Some of the games are a bit slow and choppy but they do play. The console is set up for two-person play and has a rechargeable battery. My nephew loves retro games and his birthday is coming up. He will be delighted with this game console.
