Hampton Forge usually makes some of the finer cutlery, so when I saw these really fun, affordable knives, I had to test them out. The first thing I noticed? They arrived jumbled in the box. Still, the blades were protected with cardboard, plastic point tips & wrapped in plastic. I though it a bit odd that they did not just slip them into the blade covers. (??) But the blades are very sharp & solid. I wasn't sure what to expect with the colored coating, but it looks stable on the metal blade. I worry sometimes about 'coatings' coming off as they age. But only time will tell with these. For now, I'm impressed with the comfort of the plastic handles & the edge/cutting ability of the knives. Fortunately, it came with an informational booklet, on the last page, there are instructions saying "Coated blades are dishwasher safe." but then goes on to list several don'ts. Long story short: it's better to wash these by hand until you know how the knives will age. This lesson was brought home to me when I found the scissors. I was excited because it looked like a really nice, heavy duty kitchen scissors... Except when I opened the blade to test it out, there was a rather noticeable rust spot. It was on both blades, so after I get it washed & dried properly, I will oil it & let it rest. Hopefully, with care, it will be my favorite scissors. I definitely love the bright colors which makes it harder for me to set down a knife & lose it as I work around the kitchen. These are definitely more of an 'entry' level set of knives. I should have sent my kids off to college with these instead of my much nicer, more expensive set. These are great for those just starting out. The knives after a week or so of use, seem to hold their edge well. And I really do like how they handle. I would definitely order these again as an everyday use set or a starter set. ... show more

These jewel-toned knives by Hampton Forge are cheerful and bright. The set was wrapped nicely in the box, but a couple of knives already showed signs of scuffing on the colored blade. Unfortunately, this does make me question the durability of the coating. The knives are quite sharp, and my husband loves the colored-coded system and blade covers. Overall, a nice intro set, but perhaps not the best for longevity. ... show more

    • Fun knives, cut well, but the color can come off. Scissors great!
I'll start with a shout out to the scissors that came with this set. They have rapidly become my favorite scissors ever! They cut everything with ease, feel great in my hands, are a cool color that stands out so I don't lose them all the time---they are everything I like in scissors! The knives are quite nice too. I do love the funky fun colors. They seem sharp and have done a good job cutting most everything I've tried with them. I wouldn't say they are professional grade, but most people don't need pro knifes! I like the idea of them being color coded so you can have one for meats and one for veggies. I did find the color at the end of a few of these has already come off a bit, just with regular use. It's not severe, but it does make me wonder how long these will still look good. I've washed them only by hand (we don't have a dishwasher) so that isn't the issue. I think these would be best as a starter set of knives, or for extra knives for lighter jobs. And the scissors will be a great bonus! ... show more

    • Great for ambitious toddler!
He loves helping the "grown ups" in the kitchen when we are doing any cooking or prepping. I love these knives because they are perfect for him to cut with. These are NOT toddler proof - you still need to supervise your kiddo when they are using these. They CAN cut themselves if they deliberately try. However, my toddler knows to not play with anything in the kitchen, especially knives, so I feel comfortable with him using these with our close supervision. ... show more

This knife set arrived quickly and was well protected in transit. It comes in a very nicely branded box, that would make a nice housewarming or wedding gift. The knives are exactly as pictured and described, and are easy to clean, easy to use, and sharp enough for my needs. It’s nice that it comes with a pair of kitchen shears as well. I like that each knife came with a matching blade cover and that there is a variety of knives for cutting different types of food. I tried the knives on produce, meat, and bread and all of the knives were a decent quality.
