I bought this item after being frustrated with higher priced models, specifically Cuisinart. This also had very good pro reviews. Have it now for 2 months and I am quite satisfied. It makes a very good cup of coffee and is very easy to use with simple controls. In particular the water reservoir is very wide and easy to fill. So far the hot plate has stayed perfect and not showing the wear that the Cuisinart did almost immediately. The brew time is pretty standard and it is quiet. It doesn’t have a beep to tell you it’s ready, but, that is a budget friendly thing. Only 2 negatives 1-uses a basket type filter and cone shaped supposedly make a tastier cup 2-not a big fan of the carafe. The lid remains attached and it is more difficult to clean. Plus I have complete faith that this lid will quickly find a way to break off either by user error or typical cheap manufacture. But I paid $40 for it and overall this is a very good buy ... show more

I bought this for our guest apartment on the advice of a friend who said we needed an auto turn off model. It was apparent especially when someone forgot to unplug or turn off the first one we had and the whole house started to smell of burnt coffee. This works great. It's simple to use, just the filter, coffee grounds, add water in the well type and you can make up to 12 cups. The buttons are self explanatory and there is a 2 hour auto shut off. No more burnt coffee smell. It takes a bit of cleaning in the filter area after you remove the ground cup, but that's just me, I hate the stains and loose grounds in the tiny areas. I tried many different coffee makers recently. My old Hamilton Beach Scoup one cup finally got old and I just wanted to get another maker. I was given a famous one cup brand and asked the person to take it back because it did not make coffee strong enough. I tried another brand, a 5 cup. It would make one cup less than the amount of water I put in it. So I went on a research project and found this Hamilton Beach had great reviews. I am very very happy. My coffee is strong, it can make 12 cups but I only make 10 (which is 5 in my mug) and it work like a charm! I love listening to it percolating like an old timey coffee pot! Not sure where the good reviews come from. This is not one. I have never had any problem with any of my Hamilton Beach products. However, this coffeemaker has a major design flaw. The water sprays into the coffee filter basket very forcefully and therefore sprays coffee and coffee grounds around leaving a big mess inside the water reservoir as well as coffee grounds ending up in the actual brewed coffee. It also leaves water from a crap load of condensation in the water reservoir which ultimately will create mildew. Maybe the good reviews are due to a black coffee maker and it's not noticable. But I purchased the white model and it looks disgustingly dirty without wiping the inside constantly. I am so very disappointed with the current quality of this Hamilton Beach product. I am unable to return the item because I threw out the original manufacturer packaging and Amazon will not except return without it. So here I am without a refund and without a good cup of coffee. Please do not buy this product unless you want to eat coffee grounds for breakfast ... show more

Coffee on bold mode makes great tasting coffee. The negatives: The display is awful and hard to read. I would prefer something better than black text on a gray background. I have to wear glasses to adjust anything or to read the time. Also, when you are brewing and you want to grab a cup before the brew cycle is done, it tends to run on a bit too long and spills coffee onto the warmer and sometimes it even splashes onto my countertop white stove which I find annoying.
