I started off loving this coffee maker. Great look and quality. Love the taste of the coffee. Nicely programmable. However pot is listed as leakproof. Not true it leaks or dribbles every time. I have taken to pouring only over the sink. I was going to order a second one but not now. I have never had this happen with any other coffee maker. It needs a new design. I’ve bought many makers over the last several years and all were similar in how cheaply made they were. Something was always cheap looking or failed. Thus maker doesn’t seem that way. Parts are thicker and more durable. The cone filter is different for me. I use the maker for strong brewed tea so I rip open a gallon tea bag and dump into the cone filter. Results are a rich brew. Being able to control the heat plate temp means 4 hours later it isn’t burnt. I also sometimes just keep hot water available and it is consistent in heat setting. So far, I am impressed. I ultimately chose this coffee maker because all the other ones with the features that I want had bad reviews, and this one had no reviews at all. Yes, there is low, medium, and high heat levels for the warmer plate, as well as the timer for how long to keep the coffee heated, from zero to four hours. The manual says it resets while brewing, which would make all these features worthless. Good news: it will only reset to the default settings if it loses power. The steam that comes out of the brew basket caused the control buttons to get wet. So I put a small piece of paper towel sticking out of the brew basket, and that solves the problem. I will include a photo. By the time I go to use it again, it's dry and I can get a few uses out of it. There is also steam that comes out the vent holes between the spoon and the lid for the water reservoir, right in front of the thumb grooves. These holes will still be sending up hot steam after the coffee is done brewing. Remove the reservoir lid from the sides to avoid steam burns. The reservoir lid is very clear and I found myself not noticing when it wasn't there. So I put a sticker on it. Now I can tell. The carafe is billed as being "Drip-free". This only works if you pour it very slowly, which may be difficult when the pot is full. If you're not a bodybuilder, you might want to put down a dish drying mat in front of the machine or keep a rag handy to wipe up drips. Yes it is a cone filter, takes #4 filter papers. It's no joke how much better the coffee tastes using a cone filter machine. The manual says to use a drip grind to avoid overflow. I grind my own beans to powder, which is the normal way for a cone filter. So far, I haven't made any more than 10 cups at a time. I've used the "classic" and the "bold" settings, maybe once "robust". I haven't had any overflow yet. Knock on wood. I love my new coffee maker. I work around its quirks, and it brews me delicious coffee, at the temperature I want, with no grinds in my cup. ... show more

    • Great idea with some design issues
First- I would buy this again. It checks a lot of boxes. If I hadn’t seen the prior iteration of this, I wouldn’t have these design complaints. We replaced an aging Hamilton Beach with similar features (removable water tub, 12c, timer, etc). Pros- time since brew is super helpful. The removable water container is always good. Basket swing-out is way better than prior designs (double hinge instead of single); less likely to bop the filter basket into the main unit. love the self clean reminder… keeps me honest. What could be better: Water container is polycarbonate plastic or similar- the cover is not attached, so that’s annoying. When you place the container on a counter, there will be a water spot from the delivery port (water “sticks” here). Not a big deal, just place it on a towel when manipulating it. The water container has a handle, but an integrated handle would be ideal. The rollers on the bottom are uni-directional. Prior versions of this have rollers that allow you to rotate the maker 360 degrees. This gives you access to the water carrier without pulling and turning. One of those thoughtful things that I miss with this version. If you’re not careful, you can miss closing the basket carrier (due to the double hinge). From my standpoint, this isn’t really a con considering the benefit of not spilling coffee grounds all over the counter. East to clean, operate and enjoy. ... show more

Update 6 months later: I still really like the coffee maker, but there is one negative that I have found. Unless you hold the coffee pot exactly right, it spills around the coffee cup as you pour. For the price of this machine, that's a negative. I've read other reviews complaining of the coffee taste. For us it is perfect. We like a cup of American style coffee, no frills or flavors. This is exactly what we get. It did take a minute to figure out how much coffee to use, but that's true with any new coffee maker. Our last coffee maker was a disappointment. The coffee flavor was inconsistent and it was hard to fill. We finally ordered a new one (HB professional ergonomic carafe, 12 cup coffee maker)After a couple weeks of use, I think this is my favorite coffee maker ever. It's easy to fill with water, the filter basket (cone filters) is easy to remove to clean and empty, and the display is easy to read. Best of all, our coffee has been consistently good.
