Description

The HALO HOME HLB4 Selectable Series is a complete ultra-thin direct mount downlight that connects to the HALO HOME Mesh network with no hub required. At the flick of a switch, you can adjust white tuning between 5 color temperatures ranging from warm (2700K) to daylight (5000K) prior to installing into your ceiling. This module is designed for use in new construction, remodel and retrofit installation, without needing a housing or j-box. This product features an LED driver that offers 120-Volt dimming capability. The HLB 4 lens provides uniform illumination and wet location listing.

I compared this with several canless lights (from Halo, Meconard, Ensignor and Amico) and it was one of the top contenders. The springs are stiff enough and covered in a slightly rubber-like material, allowing for extra grip on the ceiling (all the others were just covered in a plastic piece that provided little friction). The springs were slightly bent at odd angles, so I bought a few more of this version of the light to see if the bent springs were an anomaly. The other lights had springs that were slightly bent at odd angles as well, though this won’t impact the light’s ability to stay in the ceiling. The color of the light can only be changed from the app – there is no physical switch like there is on other similar lights. This light was the last to turn on when wired with several other brands of light (though the delay was sub-second). Important to note is that there’s an extra “box” for the Bluetooth functionality that you’ll need to put up in the ceiling by the jbox. After several minutes of being on, the temperature on the back of the light was approximately 100 degrees F and the front was approximately 105 degrees F (some other lights, namely the Halo non-smart light I tested, were much hotter than this). Overall, I think it’s a great light if you can afford the premium price (about $20 more than its non-smart competitors). ... show more

Redid my patio ceiling and added tongue and groove. I wanted to install these Halo lights because it would have added control of the temperature and brightness of the lights right to my phone. Unfortunately, the way the clips work on these lights, it relies on the ability of the clips to fold down onto the ceiling thus holding the light in place. But, the tongue and groove ceiling I had was too thick for the clips to pull down on therefore the lights couldn’t be secured. Disappointing there wasn’t another option to mount these. ... show more

This is the same light that I had purchased at Home Depot for my drop ceiling in my basement. I just needed a couple more to finish up. The light is extremely easy to install in drop down ceiling board. Simply cut a hole using the guide and drop the light in. The media could not be loaded. I'm probably close to having 8 or 9 now both in my garage as well as inside. They're very easy to install and while not all of mine have Bluetooth, this one DOES and I can group those in the Halo app and change colors and dim them in seconds with my iPhone. If you have a bunch (ask an electrician or consult someone to be sure) you can "daisy chain" them (connect a bunch in a row) and because the amperage load is so low you can likely put more on a single circuit than you can realistically install. Highly recommend these - and go for the Bluetooth ones if you get the chance! Hope this is helpful! ... show more
