I used this on hardwood floor and it was thick enough to protect my son when he would fall headfirst onto the ground. I used it in my playpen since it’s not super big, but you can definitely buy two of them for a bigger area.

We ordered both "1.2 and "2.0 matts. This one is too thin to do rolls or walkovers. In case you fall it won't soften the fall as much as we would need. The 2.0 inch works better for us. We really enjoyed this product because we have it in a small space underneath a gymnastics bar for our four-year-old. It’s just the right size for the smaller space and it fits perfectly under the bar so when she jumps down or falls, it’s just enough cushion. I absolutely love the color that we chose because it blends so well with the rest of our house and does not stick out like an eye sore. I feel comfortable keeping it out throughout the day and when guests are over because it blends in with our wood floors nicely. It’s easy to wipe down and clean if a spill or mess happens. Excellent quality. Great color. Stays in place. Am using the (exercise) mat under a queen sized bed to protect the floor. Can pull it out in one long piece to wipe clean as needed. Fits perfectly the width between the bed legs, and length from wall behind bed headboard to foot of bed. There is enough room on sides and foot of bed that you don't bump your toes when making the bed, etc. Hope the cats don't scratch it, as it is leather like.
