  • Great product + Best customer support
I usually don't write reviews for products, but I bought this light back in January and been loving it, I use it for webcam light, photoshoots, etc. and controlling it with the app is incredible. I recently had an issue with one of the parts and wrote email to the the customer support team, the response time was incredibly short (less than a day) and they immediately helped me with dispatching the replacement parts in two days to avoid delays in my project. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good, affordable light. ... show more

  • Great value
Great light for a good price. It's nice that it comes with a softbox. The only thing I really don't like is their mobile app. But you can adjust it manually instead.

  • Great quality product
I dont think they advertised it well, but i do like what i got. First it really does seem to be made of good quality. It was quite heavy to hold it up. Im sure this will last a long time. The light does have function to change colors and dimmable. The lighting was evenly disbursed with no uneven spots. I really found great use for it for my projects so far. Exactly what i needed. Only downfall would be the app functions can be more intuitive ... show more

  • Very short life and bad warranty
The media could not be loaded. I bought this in June (about five months ago) and used it for a total of 30 hours max. The light is very dim now and the knobs don't do anything to the light brightness or color. The only things the knobs do now is change the channel but not the brightness or color. Terrible quality and bad customer service ... show more

  • A great light with a nice modifier and an utterly fantastic stand … but a terrible app.
This is a review of the GVM PR150R / Lantern Softbox Kit, with an ASIN of B0B62SDLWF. Short version (TL;DR) - Negatives: App has unreasonable demands. Power supply cable not long enough. Positives: Lamp is bright and versatile. Modifier is easy to use. Stand is super robust. Long version … This is a really great kit, and I soundly recommend it. It took me a long time to evaluate it, as I realized I didn’t initially have enough context, but now I’m quite confident that it’s a nice setup. The lamp itself is fantastically versatile and is physically very well built. The modifier, while it comes with no instructions, is easy enough to figure out and simple to use, with a straight-forward setup/tear-down. Also, I am extremely impressed with the stand, which is super robust and one of the nicest ones I’ve encountered so far. Really, the only negatives are the app, which I, unfortunately, found to be untrustworthy, and the power brick. So, let’s get into the breakdown… Negatives: * App Permissions / Registration - unfortunately, the app requires not only Bluetooth permissions, which makes sense, but also access to GPS/fine-location and your files, as well as user registration and login. As I happen to come from an infosec background, this was enough to more than raise my eyebrows. I stopped testing the app and promptly removed it from my device. I would strongly recommend against its use while it has these properties. * Power Brick Cable - oddly, this uses a power brick whose DC-side cord isn’t long enough to reach up to the lamp from the floor when the stand is at generally-useful heights. The DC connection on the lamp is quite secure, with a screw-down connector, but you’ll probably want to attach the power brick part way up the stand, as I did, to avoid undue stress on things. It’s a minor inconvenience, but an odd enough thing I thought it was worth noting. Positives: * Lamp Stand Mount - this may not seem like something that important, but the stand mount itself is attached via a U-shackle, which, in turn, connects to the lamp body near its center of gravity. Between that, and its adjustment knob having relatively fine threading, it’s much easier to set a desired angle without the lamp flopping than it is with a lot of other lights. * Lamp Cooling - while it’s not silent, the lamp’s cooling system is quite unobtrusive - with a steady, low hum. Also, despite exercising it a fair bit, I’ve never found the lamp to get particularly hot. The cooling system seems to be quite well done. * Lamp Controls - as noted earlier, the lamp is quite simple to operate without the app. There’s a toggle on/off switch, a mode button, a regular knob, and a button/knob combination. The mode button just cycles the control status, i.e. master, slave, app, etc… Beyond that, the regular knob (on the left) controls brightness, whereas the other (on the right) functions as lighting-type selector via long-presses of its button, field selector via short presses, and rotating it adjusts color temperature, color, or effect type, depending on the current settings. It’s a lot simpler in person than it sounds, especially since the screen gives good feedback. * Lamp Modifier Options - as you may expect, since this lamp has a Bowens mount interface, there are a lot of modifier possibilities, however what I find interesting is that this also includes an inner bayonet ring to attach a small diffuser (included) over the LED panel itself, likely for use with simple reflectors, as otherwise the emitted light isn’t very uniform. This is a smart feature, as it means you can run without it for greater brightness when using an appropriate softbox, such as the included lantern, but also get nice results when you’re applying less modification to the emitted light. * Lamp Output - for an RGBWW lamp, this is pretty bright. It also produces a nice range of color temperatures and really vibrant RGB output, which also has a saturation adjustment for full HSI, if desired. * Stand - compared to other stands that tend to be included with products in a similar price range, this one has a lot of surprisingly high-quality attributes - the tubing is relatively large diameter, the leg clamp works against the main tube instead of trying to crush the top of one of the legs, the connecting segments between the legs and the main tube are relatively thick and also have stamped structure for extra rigidity, the section clamps engage smoothly and clamp securely, the finish appears to be a nice powder-coat, and the whole thing extends quite high. * Lantern Softbox Setup/Tear-Down - the softbox goes together relatively easily, though, like many, it inexplicably doesn’t come with instructions. In this case, at least, it’s rather obvious. Just sleeve the skin over the structure, place the end of it against something solid, push the base toward the end of it, latch the bar on the inside under the two hooks on the other end, and then close up the velcro on the back end of the skin. Tear-down is, of course, just the reverse. * Lantern Softbox Light - my understanding is that a lantern softbox should be like having a sun in the room with you, producing soft, highly ambient light … and this does that very nicely. In conclusion, this is a great solution, provided you either don’t want/need to use the app, or you trust it more than I do. ... show more
