  • Great Game But...
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Guitar Bundle
The guitar is this games biggest downfall. Before I start talking about the controller, I will start with the game itself. I have played Guitar Hero before and loved it. This years Guitar Hero is the best one that I have ever played. I love it. When I first got it, I would unknowingly spend hours and hours playing it. The Live mode is great but I really enjoy playing Guitar Hero TV a lot more. In Live mode, you have a total of 42 songs. In TV mode, you have a lot more. However, when playing GHTV (Guitar Hero TV), you can either select a specific song, costing you a token in the process, OR, you can just jump right into the action and play a random song by selecting one of the current playlists. I absolutely love playing GHTV. You are introduced to songs that you have never heard of. It gives you a huge variety and to be honest, it helps keep the game from getting stale. It prevents me from playing my usual, same old set list, that I would have stuck to in the past GH games, making it get old and boring quicker. Sure, there are some songs you might not like but they're even enjoyable just playing through them. The playlists change every 30 minutes if I can remember correctly, so if you choose to just jump right in to play the Metal playlist, it will change to something else later on. Tired of playing Metal after two songs? All you have to do is move the little directional stick to the side and you will be able to change the playlist mid-play. You'll need to earn in-game Guitar Hero Currency to use for playing songs on demand in TV but the game is so fun, you won't mind playing to get them and will have a bunch of them in no time. The currency can also be used to customize some in-game items. And you aren't playing alone when playing GHTV. You are playing with others, fighting to get and keep that number one spot, making you play at your best. I also enjoy having the music video for the song playing in the background as well. With the new guitar, it makes it even more fun. Having the six buttons set up the way they are adds a little more realism and more of a challenge. However, one day, the guitar just started giving me problems. I purchased this game on day one and the guitar started acting up a little bit about a month after I purchased it. I love how the guitar is set up but it is quite crappy that it stopped working on me that quick. Like some of the others have reported, it double strums sometimes, and it sometimes won't even work. I've tried different methods such as calibration, switching the USB dongle to another USB port, and more and it still gave me issues. Summary- The game is great. The guitar is crappy. Maybe some will be able to luck up and have their guitar not quit on them any time soon. I do recommend Guitar Hero Live, BUT, buy at your own risk. I was going to return it to amazon and get it replaced but it was too late. However, I did contact Activision and they helped me out. I give Guitar Hero Live a 5/5. ... show more

  • Didn't work, wasted my evening
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Guitar Bundle
Couldn't get the guitar to make contact with the dongle for the longest time. Finally connected after swapped out usb ports with the external hard drive. Then I started the game, didn't need to make any changes to video calibration because my tv and sound system are very low lag and I could see the cowbell being struck on time. BUT, the controller was defective (but beautiful, great design) - it didn't register 25% of the fret and strum inputs. You know, if you use even a halfway decent factory in China, they will test the darn thing before packing it up! Shame on Activision for being so cheap; I'm seeing a lot of people online experiencing the same defects. ... show more

  • Outstanding!!!!!!!!
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Guitar Bundle
I bought this pretty late in the game as this came out a couple years ago. I'm assuming very few will read my review and that's cool. I just feel compelled to write one in the event there are people out there like me who read through a rack of bad reviews and are on the fence. Bottom line. This game is outstanding! I loved the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but got a little burned out. I mean... After you've essentially mastered the game, the next iteration feels like simply "going through the motions". There's nothing left to learn, nothing new. Just new songs to play and new achievements to go for. For me, the fun was in learning how to be good at the game. After the first, that was over. What interested me in this was the new layout of the guitar. This was legit genius! We GH and RB veterans could work on perfecting our chops once again. I dug through A LOT of negative reviews. The guitar broke after a couple days, syncing the guitar was a challenge, the songs suck, etc. 1: The guitar is just as durable and awesome as all previous. 2: I've been jamming on the reg for a week now and it's working just fine. 3: Syncing the guitar to the X1 took about 8 seconds and is the same process as syncing a controller. 4: The songs are pretty cool. There are a lot I'd never heard before, but I like them. All good there. The only thing I can think of is that the other manufacturer got their friends and family together to write ill reviews in hopes of creating more sales of their game. : ) I mean... RB is not new. It's the same 5-button controller. I just don't feel like taking one pass through that game and calling it good. There's nothing new there. Nothing fresh. I was on the fence with this game due to the negative reviews. I almost gave up and so glad that I hung in there and went for it. I feel like I did when I got my hands on the first one. The magic is back!!!! ... show more
