Description

The all-new fourth edition Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails offers 90 trails, including some of the best and most challenging 4-wheel- drive trails in America. Every route represented has been freshly driven and documented using the latest GPS technology for extreme accuracy. Be the trail leader with this guidebook, which includes easy family fun runs, moderate sport utility adventures and difficult hard-core challenges. The book also features detailed routes run annually at the Easter Jeep Safari. Most trails are open to unlicensed ATVs, side-by-sides, and dirt bikes. Over 500 color photos show scenery as well as trouble spots. Tips and advice from local experts help to get you through the trail. All trails are BLM approved and are legal routes. Whether you are a newcomer to 4-wheeling or an experienced veteran, we guarantee you’ll have fun. The book has 11 new trails that are not in the previous edition. All trails in this book are listed on page 4 and grouped in areas shown on the map on page 5. Select an area and go to the page indicated. Here you’ll see a detailed area map with key roads to each trail. After that, go to the specific trail, where you’ll find a detailed custom- drawn map of the trail and all pertinent trail information. To find a trail alphabetically, go to page 6. To find a trail listed in order of difficulty, go to page 7. The mileage log on each trail page features turn-by-turn directions of the entire route, which is highlighted on the map. If you drive the trail in the opposite direction, use the reverse mileage shown in brackets. GPS coordinates are shown in the mileage log and are easy to find on the map. For ease of use, we always show our maps north up. If you are new to offroading, you’ll soon learn that not every 4-wheel-drive road is fun to drive. Some can be long and boring, others rough in a tedious way that’s not enjoyable. After three decades of exploring the backcountry, we’ve learned which are fun and which to avoid. We are so sure you’ll have fun, we guarantee it. Read more

  • The "Off-Road Bible" for Moab – Don’t leave home without it!
Format: Spiral-bound
If you are planning a trip to Moab, stop reading reviews and just buy this book. Seriously. I recently took my 2021 Ford Explorer (and a healthy dose of trepidation) out to the Moab backroads, and the FunTreks Guide to Moab UT was quite literally a lifesaver. I’ve used GPS apps before, but this book is like having a local expert sitting in the passenger seat whispering directions in your ear. It is GPS in writing. Why this book is a 5-star essential: Spot-On Directions: The turn-by-turn instructions are incredibly precise. In a place where "turn left at the red rock" could mean a thousand different places, this book told us exactly when to turn and what to look for. We never felt lost or second-guessed a route. Know Before You Go: The best part of this guide is the "mental prep." It breaks down exactly what to expect before you even put the car in gear. It rates the difficulty clearly so you don't accidentally end up on a trail that’s way above your vehicle's (or your nerves') pay grade. Easy to Follow: The layout is intuitive and the photos are a huge help for visual confirmation that you're on the right track. Maximized the Fun: Because we weren't stressed about getting lost or stuck, we actually got to enjoy the scenery. It turned what could have been a stressful navigational nightmare into an amazing, fun-filled adventure. The Verdict: Whether you are a seasoned wheeler or a Moab rookie, this is a MUST-HAVE. It’s the difference between a "lost in the desert" horror story and the trip of a lifetime. The peace of mind alone is worth ten times the price of the book. 10/10 Highly Recommend! ... show more

  • Good resource
Format: Spiral-bound
Used this book for a supplement to well known off road GPS app while in Moab. Nice to have a paper backup map for areas where there is no cell service and I didn’t pre download an off line map. You could get by with just this book if staying on the most popular trails. Lots of good information on specific trails listed. ... show more

  • Great book for offroading around MOAB

Worth every penny if you are planning a trip to Moab.

  • Buy it!
Format: Spiral-bound
This guide is extremely helpful for people who are new or familiar with Moab. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to explore the surrounding areas. It’s been useful to know the difficulty of each route and what vehicles are suitable, especially when I started with stock parts. I also use it to plan camping and hikes! ... show more

  • This is the best way to find trails in the Moab area, whether it's your first time or 100th time.
Format: Spiral-bound
This book is something I purchased many years ago and it has been revised many times with updates to new trails and notifications about closed trails. This latest revision is the best one yet. If you're headed to Moab and area, this book is invaluable (and way better than websites or people in forums) to keep on hand so you can make judgements on what your rig will be able to handle, and not just go take your new stock Jeep to Metal Masher. Seriously, this is the one resource you need. ... show more

  • Must Have for Moab
Format: Spiral-bound
I don't know how I found some of these trails back in the 90's before this guide came out. I now have the On-X and GIA with downloaded maps, but this guide was invaluable in our last trip out there and has way more info that you need if running any of these trails. You can go old school on the map and no need for GPS with this book if you want. Because you will lose cell signal everywhere and GPS in some places. Not only in planning, but the milage cues for turns and features was very accurate. I enlisted my 12 yo in the back seat to use the book and help navigate many of the trails. Definitely worth the money for us. ... show more

  • Must for Moab trip.
Format: Spiral-bound
I took this book on a trip to Moab, UT. It was great! It helped me organize my limited time in Moab. I selected trails that were appropriate for my car (Subaru Forester Wilderness) and my skill level. It told me which trails to stay off of, if I valued my car and life.
