Description

GU Roctane Ultra Endurance Energy Gel is a high-intensity offering from GU, the original sports energy gel. Designed for extreme and long-duration endurance activities, GU Roctane Energy Gel comes in highly compact, portable, and calorie-dense packets that are loaded with carbohydrates that can be rapidly absorbed. Athletes performing at a high level for hours on end need more from their nutrition, which is why Roctane Energy Gel packs three-times the amino acids and twice the sodium as original GU Energy Gel. These ingredients boost Roctane's efforts to help decrease muscle damage, promote muscle repair, and maintain water balance. Each packet of GU Roctane Ultra Endurance Energy Gel contains 100 calories and 1425mg of amino acids.

  • Great upgrade to standard GU
Flavor Name: Strawberry Kiwi
I tried GU Roctane during my full marathon, and I was impressed. The taste, consistency, and flavor are pretty much on par with the regular GU, so if you like that, you’ll enjoy this. I felt good throughout the race—better than usual, actually—until the very end, which is saying something! The only difference I noticed compared to regular GU was that the effects seemed a bit delayed. It took a little longer for fatigue to set in throughout the race. Overall, definitely a solid choice for long-distance endurance. No adverse stomach issues throughout. Definitely swallow with water like normal GU. ... show more

  • Perfect for endurance rides.
Flavor Name: Strawberry Kiwi
Perfect for endurance rides. They absorb quickly, provide steady energy, and help maintain consistent power on long climbs and multi-hour sessions. Definitely a must-have for long-distance cycling.

  • Good exercise energy 'fuel', easy on the stomach
Flavor Name: Strawberry Kiwi
GU Energy Roctane is good energy 'fuel' for hard exercising, is easy on the stomach and seems to help keep my energy level up on my long hilly bicycle rides (15-30 miles, 1000-2000+ feet climbing). The "Roctane" product provides a bit more nutrition than the regular GU Energy Gel (which I also find to be a good product). Also good for my long hilly hiking outings. Both products are easier to digest when working out than energy bars. Great variety of flavor choices too. (No I'm not an elite athlete, just a 70+ guy who gets out for exercise a bit.) P.S., GU partners with TerraCycle to recycle these energy gel packets after use. P.S.2, when opening, you can tear the top tab about 90% and get the gel out that way, keeping the top tab from becoming road, trail or pocket trash; then save the used packets and send to TerraCycle. ... show more

  • Great Performance, Less Than Ideal Flavor
Flavor Name: Cherry Lime
I'd been using the normal Gu for quite some time -- Vanilla Bean flavor -- and found that it worked fairly well. The occasional minor stomach issue, but no big deal. I've never been a big fan of the very thick consistency, and since I was working my way through a large box the vanilla flavor started getting on my nerves. I decided to "upgrade" to Roctane and thought that switching over to something with a fruit flavor would help break me out of my vanilla rut... The good: Roctane has a considerably thinner consistency, which is awesome. Easier to eat, doesn't coat the mouth/throat as much, and feels much easier on the stomach. I also feel like the extra caffeine gives me a small bonus boost. And the BCAAs? I have no clue, but apparently they help with carb uptake. I can't measure that. Energy levels feel pretty much the same, but MAYBE a bit faster acting with Roctane. (Could be totally psychological since these things are damn expensive and I want them to work better.) The bad: The cherry lime flavor that I bought tastes like jellied, chemical-infused regret. Ugh. Almost laughably bad. I brought two Roctanes and a plain Gu Vanilla Bean on a recent long run, and ate the Roctanes first. The vanilla Gu was like a delicious special treat after the Roctanes. So, four stars, mainly due to taste. Next time I'll try the Vanilla Spice flavor. ... show more

  • A Must Have for long distance running and high intensity training...
Flavor Name: Assorted Flavors
I purchased the GU Roctane Ultra Endurance Energy Gel 24 Count variety pack so I could have them available in my training for a marathon. I really grew to love these gels, and they definitely gave me the energy and boost needed for my training and long runs. I would say you need to consume a few of these gels before you start getting use to how they taste and dissolve in your mouth, and the biggest key is having them with a good amount of water or gatorade. During marathon training, I typically had my first gel about 15 minutes before my run and then one about every 30 to 40 minutes during the run. These gels are really awesome since they only have 100 calories and provide the necessary and essential electrolytes and amino acids to help decrease muscle damage and mental fatigue. I have also started incorporating the gels when we go on long hikes / trails and when I play my two hours of weekly pick-up basketball games (and boy, have I noticed an improved level of energy and intensity). I really love the variety pack because of all the different flavors. I know a lot of people are going to have their own personal preferences and favorites but I would say all of them tasted fairly good and seemed to sit well with my stomach. I believe this product is a must have for all long distance runners or people involved with high intensity training. I would not have had a successful marathon without them. ... show more

  • These help prevent cramping and give me a bit of energy
Flavor Name: Assorted Flavors
These are gels are life savers for my 10+ mile runs. They give me that extra energy push I need and leave my muscles feeling less worn down afterwards. Recovery is quicker and less painful. Note, I always roll out my muscles and stretch lightly after runs, so that helps too. I can even lift a bit of weights after my runs when using this. They're expensive, so I only use them for long runs or really hard exercise days. For short runs I stick to the standard Gu gels without all the branch chain amino acids (bcaa). Very happy with the purchase. Taste is pretty good. Combine them with the Gu electrolyte tablets. ... show more
