This is a pretty good immersion heater. For smaller amounts of water it heats pretty fast. If you're trying to heat a larger amount of water it takes it a little bit longer, slower to do so. But it works well.

We ordered this to help heat our inflatable hot tub when we refill it. We live in the snow belt and our hot tub is outside. We get frustrated that it takes forever to reheat the water after we change the water in the hot tub, so we ordered this. This significantly reduced the amount of time required to heat the water back up after refilling. Typically it takes about 24-36 hours to reheat the water after changing. This time it took about 18 hours. You do have to improvise a bit as it can't touch the hot tub itself. We used a closet rod and zip tied this to the center of the rod so it hung suspended in middle of the water when we laid the rod across the top of the hot tub. It worked like a dream! The protective plastic around it does not get hot to the touch, which is really nice. It's definitely working because you can see the convection waves coming off of it in the water. So you can handle it immediately after pulling it out of the water, which I can appreciate. The holes aren't big enough to stick a finger in, so you really can't burn yourself. I really like that. We absolutely love this product; if you're trying to refill an inflatable hot tub in the middle of cold weather, this is a must-have. ... show more

    • No Thermostat or Temperature Control
My reason for buying this was to prevent a 5 gallon bucket of water from freezing, not for heating or boiling water. I keep a water bucket out year round, because my dog prefers that water to the clean water in the house. After reading the limited information included with this product, along with another review, and the online description more completely, this will not serve the purpose I need. It turns out that this heater will not just prevent freezing, but if left in the bucket, it may continuing heating the water to the boiling point of 212° F! Obviously, that would be dangerous for everyone, not just my dog. Apparently, the only way to use this is to monitor the water temperature and then unplug it once the water reaches the desired temperature. I have no plans to sit outside in below freezing weather, just to be able to use this. I’m still hoping to figure out a way to utilize this, but I think I will be looking for a different/better version with a way to control/set the temperature. I’m honestly not sure who would find this product useful. ... show more

So this answers the question as to how long it takes this 1000 Watt wand to heat up three gallons of water. I used a three gallon bucket with three gallons of water. Starting temp 80 degrees Fahrenheit. MINUTES: DEGREES: 5 105 10 120 15 125 20 130 25 150 30 175 So basically it heats up about 5 degrees every 5 minutes at lower temperatures, and starts jumping higher after 20 minutes. Note that I only gave this unit one star for temp control, because it does not have a temp control device. I know they also make a 1500 Watt unit which would heat up water faster, and they also make units with temperature control knobs as well. This basic unit suits my needs just fine. ... show more

I bought this to serve as an auxiliary heater for my inflatable hot tub. It’s awesome!!! This thing, working together with the hot tub heater heats the tub twice as fast as just the hot tub heater. It seems durable, with a long enough cord. One of these should come standard with every inflatable hot tub. I can’t see ever firing up my tub without also using this. It makes that big of a difference. Love it! ... show more

Well built little bucket heater, gets nice and hot, but doesn't seem to overheat. I got the one without temperature control, so I do have to monitor it to stop it at my desired temperature, but that fits my application well. I like that it is completely submersible, instead of having a head that can't get wet like other bucket heaters I've used. I also like that the element is 316 stainless, as it should last longer than 304, and will be more resistant to different water conditions. A good value, and I'd recommend it if you need one. ... show more

    • No more cold water
Recently had some water utility problems and needed a way to heat water to wash dishes. I drop it in a 5 gallon container and wait about 45 minutes and I’ve got some nice warm water to get my chores done. Works great for my purposes. Quality product.

This just works. Its been great for heating up water in a 5 gallon bucket. Very simple to use. The cord is long also. Seems very sturdy as well.
