Description

Inspired by the historic ‘Rex’ line of instruments offered by mail-order catalog in the 1930s, ‘40s and ’50s, Jim Dandy models embody the charm and spirit of those early Gretsch flat-top guitars with superior playability and best-in-class-tone to boot. Featuring a petite and portable parlor body shape and a short 24-inch scale length, the Grestch Jim Dandy Parlor 6-String Guitar punches above its weight with a distinct tonal clarity and throaty midrange for which parlor guitars are so beloved. Construction The X-braced body of this 6-string acoustic guitar is crafted with select lightweight laminate tonewoods for an optimal balance of woody vintage tone and reliable durability, while the ‘C’-shape neck presents an inviting feel for hours of old-timey inspiration. Period-correct details such as a vintage-style pinned bridge, ‘G’-graphic pickguard, painted pinstripe purfling, 3-on-a-plate open- gear tuning machines and oversized dot fingerboard inlays combine for a nostalgic personality destined for any barnburner or jamboree. Well suited for everything from bluesy porch pickin’ to speakeasy swingin’, the Gretsch Jim Dandy Parlor is a ramblin’ companion for newbies and old-timers alike.

  • Not a bad little guitar
Can't go wrong for the price. Holds a tune very well. Looks nice and definitely fun to play. Keep it easily accessible for a quick play now and then when there isn't a lot of time or just want to play a quick tune. Would work great for trips(if youre driving and wouldn't take up too much space. In my opinion anyways) I'm 6'3 and fairly large hands and it's pretty easy to play giving it size. Which surprised me. ... show more

  • Its great
Pros: Great sounding parlor, nuff said. Cons: The only real con I had was the fact that the back side is not the same color as the front of the guitar. I didn't realize that they didn't paint the back black. Kind of ugly having the front painted and the back not painted. Anything else I could say is irrelevant, because you choose to buy a guitar with or without other aspects. So for under 200 dollars, you are going to be hard pressed to find other guitars with the sound and playing quality of this guitar. Of course this is a parlor, so understand what a parlor is before you buy one. That's more towards the beginners out there. ... show more

  • Great Couch Guitar
The guitar is beautiful and sounds surprisingly good for a smaller, plywood instrument. The action was good right out of the box with no neck warping or fret buzzing. The dull finish allows your hand to easily slide along the neck. The sound is fairly good except for being light on bass, as expected. The guitar was made in Indonesia and the workmanship seems to be good quality. It stays in tune pretty well. To me, this guitar excels as a couch guitar and the couch is where I leave mine so that I can easily access it numerous times during the day. ... show more

  • Jim Dandy
I have a Maestro Concert acoustic guitar, also. The Jim Dandy has a higher tone than the Maestro, so I use both at different times. At first I wasn't sure I'd keep the Jim Dandy, but decided to. The Jim Dandy is lighter, and more narrow than the Maestro, so easier to hold. I like it.

  • The best deal in acoustic guitars
3 years later, and I'm still in love with my Original Jim Dandy Parlor. When I got it, it needed a little love, fretboard conditioner, and I lowered the action a bit. The original bridge has string through the but end instead of the newer models that have the traditional peg system. Tuners are stable and reliable. This guitar has the greatest tone for finger picking blues, and plays like a dream. The price tag is way below what the quality level is. I ended up installing a Bill Lawrence pickup in mine, and then it's become my live workhorse guitar. Highly recommended. ... show more
