Great tool. Blows harder than the gas blower that it replaced. I got this as much for my wife, because she can use it without my having to fuel/start the gas blower... but I love it too. It's much lighter, which is nice when this is the last step after hours of yard work. Also easier to hang up, and no worries about a hot engine. The battery does get hot, but not as in a fire concern. We were already well into the GW 40V system, including having another 8ah battery (plus a 4ah and a few smaller ones.) That is a factor because of recharge time., but we also have a 100+ foot driveway and ~1000 feet of street frontage. I suspect for a regular lot, the single 8ah battery would be fine. The included charger is a fast charger (5 amps, claimed ~90 minutes to full charge) and has a fan to blow air through the battery while charging, but I would still be leery of immediately charging since heat kills batteries... that said, I'm not sure that charging immediately on the fan enable charger doesn't help on that score. I will have to Google that. As far as I can see, the 8ah are the only batteries that actually have air holes to allow the charger to push air through. I'm not sure if there is much of any benefit for the smaller ones. I initially got a refurb unit, and the battery was totally dead. The price was a steal, about the price of a new battery alone, but I had to return it based on the dead battery. Amazon couldn't/wouldn't just replace the battery. Others have reported Greenworks helping in these situations, but I spent ~90 minutes on hold over 3 calls and never could get someone on the phone. Not that I'd expect them to replace the battery when purchased from a 3rd party (even Amazon), but you never know. I returned that and ordered a new one which works like a dream. The cost was still good, though monitor the price and see if a deal pops up. I got it at not-too-much-of-a-premium over the price of the OEM GW 8ah battery, so happy enough with that. (Knock off batteries are much cheaper but I don't have any experience with them.) All that said, if you're not in the 40v system already, consider the higher voltage varieties. I think GW is headed in that direction so you're likely to have more variety long term getting into those systems. (If you're not thinking to get into the system with multiple tools it doesn't really matter, but of course getting into multiple tools with common batteries is where you can find real value.) ... show more

    • Missing a critical part

Just received the back pack blower unit, unfortunately was missing a hose clamp so I could not complete assembly. Batteries charge and unit powers up, but will have to find a replacement hose clamp before I can leave a updated review regarding the unit power and run time. For what I paid I'm happy to have the extra 2 8amp hour batteries. I have greenworks chainsaws (12 and 18inch), a mower, a weed trimmer, a lighter duty leaf blower and a snowblower. It is so nice to not have to mess with gas or oil, and they always start right up. With the 8ah batteries, the power will run out before I do. Update - clamp purchased ($3) and up and running. Ran it for about 45 minutes which took about a third of the battery charge. This thing works great! Its nice to not have to mess with gas oil mix and starter problems. ... show more

    • Powerful, but not the most powerful.

With turbo mode, it is close to being real powerful, but not quite "real powerful", just "powerful". Two short steps away from a gas powered version, of the same design. That is NOT a bad thing. In normal mode, not turbo, it is perfect speed and pressure for clearing dry debris from most surfaces. Leaves, sand, small stones, weed clippings, clumps of grass. For added power, without turbo, a close surface tap is all that is needed to increase blowing power, without going into turbo mode. Cons: Turbo button placement makes you feel like you NEED to hold it. It really should be more of a side button, not a top button. Turbo drains power nearly 3x faster, but seems less than half stronger than normal. I assume it reaches the ducting and blade angle limits. It really should have a blade designed for turbo, and just run half RPM, for economy mode. This could use two more duct tips... One which is a wide and flat "sweeper", and one with a teardrop air focused insert, for pinpoint blowing control. It can handle both, but we only get a standard tapered exhaust tip. (With a little modification, it can be a flat sweeper. Heat it with a heat gun and squish it half way flat, on top. Use the ground as the other "flat".) Great purchase, but I wish it came with a 4ah battery, instead of 2ah or 2.5ah. perfect for a single large driveway or porch, sidewalk and roadway, after one recharge. ... show more

    • The worst machine I have ever bought - really
Size: Blower / Vac (230 MPH) 5.0Ah
The machine arrived yesterday, and I assembled it as a leaf mulcher - the function for which I bought it. (I have a wonderful EGO leaf blower.) Assembly was very difficult and unintuitive - it took a solid hour and three quarters. Today, I tried out the machine. It was quite heavy, and the wheels in front did not help. It often failed to pick up leaves that were right in front of it. After 15 minutes, the battery, which I had fully charged, lost power. The leaf bag was about 1/10 full. I set up a return with Amazon. Then, the fun began. My wife and I spent some three hours trying to disassemble the machine - parts simply would not come apart. At one point, I was thinking of using a hack saw. Trying to fit the pieces back into the box for return made Rubik's Cube look simple - really. The parts are oddly shaped, and there was only one way that they would fit into the box. Greenworks copies its color scheme from EGO, which may have subliminally engendered trust, as all my EGO machines have worked beautifully. Color was the only similarity. Stay away. ... show more

Also have a gas blower. The electric is my go-to blower now. Quieter and start and stop no problem. Much lighter than the gas blower. Battery lasts a long time. Even works good on light snow.
