i bought this as a gift for my brother. he couldn't figure it out so recently he brought it to me on a visit. we are both intelligent people but i could NOT figure it out. i have a gps that i've used for years which has been a lifesaver so i wished the same for him.     • A local shakedown cruise revealed digital schizophrenia--perhaps insanity
After 30 miles of weirdly consistent misdirection over familiar roads with easy routes, the humor faded and the annoyance rose. My wife & I shut it down and pulled the plug. Initially I'd supposed the bad directions derived from local map anomalies copied from Google, and my selected tolerance for including routes with dirt roads. But that explanation soon proved inadequate. Want some examples? 50 yards short of joining a rural highway which would bridge a river en route in 3 miles, Ms. Cargad demanded we turn onto a dirt lane running briefly parallel. When I declined she insistently demanded we turn back and obey the goofy turn imperative for the next 5(!) miles. Our destination was on the left side of the highway. After finally accepting our veto of the last commanded turn, she began directing us to turn right(!) on every dirt road for 8 miles till we arrived at our left turn driveway--at which time she told us our destination was still 1,000 ft. ahead. On the return trip we set an (easy) destination on second highway onto which we would turn left in 14 miles. As before, the projected route was initially mapped correctly and accepted. But after 9 miles, the Cargad lady began ordering right turns at every road intersection. That was when our patience ran out. I'd really had hopes for this GPS. My initial experience with TomTom had been great--until it was "upgraded" into senility by the removal of 43 US states to accomodate reduced information on the remaining five. My Garmin experience was only slightly better: a glitchy, obtuse machine with a poor touch screen, but it remains at least consistent because I refused to upgrade it. (The maps are a decade out of date.) So I had high hopes for this Chinese replacement with a cheap price and a surfeit of bells & whistles. After sending it back to its maker, I'll probably gamble again with the familiar bad domestic choices and hope for something better than the dubiously "refurbished" TomTom I returned several years back for behavior (mildly) similar to what I described above in the Cargad GPS. ... show more

    • Not bad but I just wanted a GPS
Overall this is a great unit for the price. It has MANY features above and beyond a mere GPS. However: 1 - The instruction booklet that came with does not provide instructions for anything beyond unboxing and installation. There are so many features in this unit that I have no idea how to use. 2 - The 7" display is nice but it's high gloss so, even with the sunshade (great idea) in place, the glare from reflection makes the display difficult to see in bright light, even with the brightness at 100%. 3 - Most of the additional functionality requires a SIM card which means an additional "phone line" charge on your cell bill and likely LOTS of data usage. Overall it's not a bad GPS but, for the price, is better as a tablet with all the extra built-in stuff. ... show more

This GPS 8s easy to install and comes with everything needed. It is easily mounted to the windshield of any type of vehicle. Its accuracy is point on and has a good clear voice that let's you know what move you are to make next. Its bright screen ensures you can always tell where you're turning. This is a very state of the art GPS system at a fraction of the cost of the more expensive name brand ones. Great value for the money. ... show more

    • Functional, but not the best user interface
I really wish I'd gone with a better known brand. This does work. It lets you know if you're speeding, which I LOVE, but the user interface is very clunky and it can be annoying to navigate the navigation device. Weirdly, it is like a tablet and it has things like games on it as well as navigation, which is confusing. I guess that would be nice if you had little ones to entertain in the car, but then kids normally have electronics already. Seems like a really strange choice to leave games on this thing. I came back to dock some stars because it recently let me in circles, then proceeded to completely stop navigating later in the day, and lead me way past my house. Thankfully it led me in a direction that I recognized. But be careful with this thing… ... show more
