    • The grip case keeps falling apart.

I was looking forward to this new camera from GoPro. However, after using it for two days. I am not impressed for five reasons. 1. Grip case is defective. Spent the extra money to get the GoPro grip case with the camera; however, my grip kept popping off. Yes I ensured it was attached correctly and locked, but it wouldn’t stay in place if I hit a bump and was holding it. The camera would separate from the grip. 2. Battery life is meh. Couldn’t get as much time on an Enduro battery as I did with my hero 13. 3. Slow transfer speeds to computer. 4. Most annoying thing no way to leave a charger connected. Have to take it out of the case. 5. Video quality isn’t that much better to justify the cost hike. ... show more

This review is mainly for the Point-and-Shoot Grip (I love the camera itself and would give it 5 stars, I'll give the grip 3 stars so I met in the middle with 4 stars) I love the feel of this grip. It feels very good in the hand. It's very sturdy and feels like my GoPro is well protected. I only have 2 cons. I ended up not even putting the top "shutter button" part on because it doesn't work half the time. It doesn't fully push the top button, and I'm left having to take it off to push the button. But that's not the worst thing. This next con is much more detrimental. The whole side of the rig, including the grip, can come off with just a tap of the bottom corner button, and there's no lock on that like there is for the grip itself. This is very concerning because if I accidentally tap the button with my ring or pinky finger (Because that's naturally where my fingers sit), the whole grip can unattach, and the GoPro can fall off very easily. This seems like a huge design flaw. It's essential to have the side of the case to come off because that's how you'd switch the battery or SD card, but there has to be a locking feature on it so you don't accidentally press it. ... show more

I’ve been using this camera for the past few weeks, primarily to film myself working on woodworking projects, but I also took it along to film a live concert. Overall, I’ve been very impressed with its video quality, versatility, and rugged build. The camera mounts to a standard tripod bolt, which makes it very easy to incorporate into a filming setup. It’s also extremely easy to turn on and off, even while wearing gloves. I particularly appreciate the front-facing screen, which makes it much easier to frame yourself when recording. The metal protective case that comes with the Grip Edition is very solid and feels well made. The camera slides in and out of the case easily, although one drawback is that you can’t charge the camera while it’s inside the case. Even so, I would definitely recommend getting the Grip Edition with the case. It adds a good amount of protection and gives me more confidence using the camera around a workshop. The whole setup feels rugged enough to handle the occasional drop when the case is installed. For filming my woodworking projects under intentional lighting, the camera performed excellently and produced very high-quality video files. What surprised me even more was how well it performed at a live concert, where the lighting was much darker and less controlled. The footage was still surprisingly good in those conditions. The built-in audio also performed well—better than most camera microphones I’ve used. I also had a friend who works in film take a look at the camera, and he was impressed with the quality of the glass and lens. He thought the footage had a slightly softer, throwback look that he really liked, while also noting that the color science was high quality. Battery life has been very good so far as well. The advertised 3+ hours of 4K recording time seems to be fairly accurate based on my experience. There are a couple of things I don’t love. It doesn’t come with a suitable SD card, so you’ll need to purchase one separately. It requires a V30 A2 card, which may not be something everyone already has on hand. The SD card is also a little difficult to insert and remove. One of my favorite features, though, is something that has nothing to do with image quality: I can use the GoPro to record YouTube footage while simultaneously using my phone to play music or podcasts through my headphones. That makes it much easier to work on projects and record content without having to interrupt whatever I’m listening to. Overall, this has been a really solid camera for both planned indoor filming and more spontaneous use. It feels durable, produces excellent video, handles challenging lighting better than I expected, and has been particularly convenient for recording myself while working on projects. ... show more

The last GoPro that I bought was the GoPro Hero 5, so it has been several years. When I say that the Mission 1 Pro is an amazing upgrade, it is an understatement. The highest-quality GoPro that I have ever used, so many jam-packed features, but overall, as far as the hardware goes, it's still super compact, but with an insane battery life. I also appreciate the extra accessories that it comes with, and the 8K picture quality is so crisp, as well as the open gate feature. Amazing camera to take wherever you go. I use this for filming a lot of music content, and GoPro knocked it out of the park with this reinvention of their camera. The grip in particular gives it a DSLR natural feel, and I have to say that is probably one of my favorite innovations that GoPro has added in many years. This is a great overall versatile camera and is the perfect middle ground for when you don't want to use your cell phone and you also don't want to have to take an entire rig around with you.
