  • Battery Life is poor and gets hot quick
Color: H8 Black + Lanyard
First off, this is a decent camera. The video quality is awesome and it is a good starter camera if you're getting serious about filming. I purchased 3 of these for my youtube channel so that I could have back ups and also for taking video from several angles at once. There have been some issues though. First off, the camera gets hot quick! All 3 of them do it. If I didn't have back ups, I wouldn't be able to film a long video all at once due to having to turn it off and let it cool down. Second, battery life is terrible. Whether I am using the go pro batteries or the cheap ones, they all drain quickly. So I have a total of 12 batteries to keep me going. That's a big investment and for the price, I was very disappointed with it. Also, go pro does have a warranty. You don't have to purchase the plan within the first year or two to get it replaced if there is an issue, which I didn't know. However, their support is very difficult to get ahold of. You have to request a call back or chat which takes forever and then you have to go through the whole, "did you turn it off and back on again? Are you using the original cord?" Blah blah, yes, yes please get on with it. Lastly, 2 out of the 3 cameras ended up having serious issues, where they wouldn't turn on randomly. I was able to trouble shoot and get one of them to turn back on, but had to replace the other one. Thankfully, after spending forever trying to get in touch with support and waiting for it to be shipped back to me, I did end up getting the next model, hero 9, sent to me as a replacement. The hero 9 also gets hot quick, however the battery life is much better. Overall, I think its a pretty good camera, but if I could go back in time, I would have invested in the hero 9 instead. ... show more

  • mixed results
Color: H8 Black + Lanyard
I bought this camera specifically for dirt bike POV action videos. Specifically the Desert 100 weekend and race last weekend in Washington State. The temperature drops just below freezing at night and nears 50 degrees F at the high. Saturday I did a ride in the late morning and it worked great. Great picture, stabilization... Sunday was the big race and started the camera up as I'm about to leave for the starting line. It turned o and started recording for about 3 seconds, beeped 3 times and turned off. I tried turning it back on but no response. Tried new battery, different SD card but no luck. The one event I had been looking forward to the whole year and had finally bought a nice camera for was going to be only in my memory. I took it off and put it in my fanny pack. When I got back home I expected it was bricked but it started up fine and seems normal. Be careful using it in cold conditions ... show more

  • Use it with the cord as the battery life is not defiant for outdoor off road trips.
Color: H8 Black + Lanyard
I used the product for documenting roads that would require restoration after an off road racing event. In the future I plan on using it to record our clubs events.

  • Perfect
Color: H8 Black + Lanyard
This camera is perfect for what I need. It has a great quality video. I bought it on sale so it was a great buy but even not on sale it’s a good buy. I haven’t had it out on a bike ride yet but from all the review it sounds like it’s perfect.

  • Good quality video, but not user-friendly
Color: H8 Black + Lanyard
We just recently got a Hero8 Black GoPro to take videos of hikes and mountain climbing adventures. The good: setting it up and taking videos is simple and straightforward, and the video quality is clean and sharp (recommendation: go for at least a 128 GB sim card to ensure adequate storage capacity at high resolution). The bad: transferring videos off of the unit is a pain. After spending over three hours installing and reinstalling the GoPro app on our phones and computer, we were unable to get anything to recognize that the GoPro was even there (it was plugged in at 100% charge, and our wi-fi had no problems at the time). There is no option to directly connect the GoPro to a computer to transfer files, and the only customer support available is apparently based in India or Pakistan (judging from the accents of the support people we contacted), so clear explanations of the problem were difficult and took a lot of work on both ends. Ultimately, the only way we were able to transfer videos from the GoPro was to manually pull the sim card out and plug it into a reader in our computer. Customer support told us that this is not a bad thing, as it would ultimately take 5 times longer to transfer files via wi-fi. I don't think this is an acceptable solution, because (1) handling the sim card multiple times increases the likelihood that it will be damaged or broken and (2) damage to the GoPro is possible if the sim card is inserted in the wrong orientation (there is no indication on the unit of the correct orientation to use, and even when you have it correct, you have to "shove" the card pretty hard to get it seated properly.) Customer support gets 5 stars for willingness to be helpful, but 1 star on convenience and ease of use. As mentioned before, the only way to get customer support is to submit a report on the website, which apparently goes to a call center in India or Pakistan. You then wait for a call back, which could come minutes or hours later. Of the three call-ins we made, two had such scratchy, bad connections that I am doubtful we could have understood what the support tech was saying even if they spoke crystal-clear English (seriously, we could only hear every second or third word, the rest was static). Ultimately, the tech who helped us was helpful and knowledgeable, especially given that he could not see what we were dealing with. All told, the customer support setup needs work to make it more accessible. ... show more
