I bought this set to replace two older cameras on my Nest Camera set. I was not able to add it to my Nest Account. It required me to download the Google Home App and load them there. Note: I had to turn off all of my Nest cameras so that I could load the two new ones. Afterwards I turned the others back on. I was really concerned, I did not want to have to jump back and forth between two apps to see all of my cameras, but it all worked out, I can see all of them on the Google Home app by clicking on the camera icon in the header of the app. One note to make the cable lead on the camera is really short, maybe a foot long at the most. It connects to a much longer cable that plugs into the electrical outlet. This was a bit of an issue for me. I place the camera outside and run the cable through the wall and plug it in, inside the garage, I have hardly any slack to maneuver the camera to get an ideal view of the area I am monitoring. All OK in the end, I have a decent view of the area and setting up the camera on the Google Home App was pretty easy.

I have a variety of different Nest cameras around the house. I like this gen 2 model because the improvement over the outdoor gen 1 model's video quality is obvious, at least to me. I love Google's 24/7 recording for 10 days with the optional "advanced" plan because even if the camera didn't pick up motion, you can still go back and review what happened at any point in time for 10 days, with 60 days of event recordings. I also love the new AI features that can identify people, animals, and what they were doing in each recording. For example, "rabbit hopping in the yard", "five deer roaming on the front lawn", and "someone entering the shed holding a shovel" are just some of the descriptions I have received. And the daily summary with the AI feature is amazing. These cameras are great if you love being in the Google ecosystem. They are easy to set up in the Google Home app and their wi-fi signal has been rock solid for me. Near perfection, I just wish they went to 4K this time.

The image is clear, and you can zoom in to get a closer look at any part. Google Home sends a notification when a person or a car enters the camera's field of view. The notification can be set for animals as well, if you like. It is great to get notifications when my family comes and goes. You can define zones so the camera doesn't send notifications when a car/person enters its field of view on the street, but this isn't 100% reliable. I still get occasional notifications when my neighbors enter their driveway or when cars/people pass on the street. There is a feature in the Home app that lets the camera tag people, but Google has become greedier, and this is now a pay-to-use feature. It was nice knowing which of my family members was coming/going, but it is not worth $10-20 a month. Overall, the camera is worth the money.

Everything worked as advertised. Adding cameras to google account was a breeze. Installation was a dream. It's about 50 feet from my router to the cameras and connection is solid with no disruption. I can see nothing happening in my yard and my car just sitting there in my driveway with such clarity. It may be more exciting for you if there are "goings on" in your nabe. I almost forgot -- the microphones on these things are crazy amazing. Picked up a long conversation across the street from my driveway (a good 40 feet) crystal clear - not like I was eavesdropping or anything. Just saying.

Picture quality looks like my truck’s backup camera… and not even a good one. More like the “why is everything gray and blurry?” edition. I keep hearing people rave that this is better than the Gen 1 version, which made sense… because I thought that’s what I was replacing. Plot twist: apparently there’s an even worse model called Gen 1, and somehow I skipped right past that and downgraded from my 10-year-old cameras. Impressive. For context, I’m an original Nest customer—back when Nest was Nest and not… whatever this is now. I’ve got about 7 of the original cameras still running strong after a decade. One finally lost a fight with a storm, so we replaced it with the Gen 2. Big mistake! The picture quality? Rough. The night vision? We had to turn it off because everything looked like it was filmed inside a fog machine at a middle school dance. I genuinely didn’t think it was possible to go backward in camera quality over 10 years, but here we are living proof. Looks like we will be migrating over to a different brand that can balance quality over quantity at an affordable price point. I was happy paying $199 for a quality product that so far has lasted a decade outdoors and still produces I close to I phone quality live view... Wired of course. The first 2 pictures are of the new Gen2 and the rest are all the original Nest cam quality in different lighting conditions. I only have 2 of the Gen2 because I just put this up and Im disgusted in the quality difference.
