For a nice budget price (currently $179), this is a pretty impressive simulator. I am especially impressed with the included training swing stick, which has a very nice weight to it (similar to your irons) and makes a realistic ball hitting sound when you swing. As skeptical as I was when trying it the first time, the product has won me over with my continued use of it; it really does feel very close to swinging my iron, all in the comforts of my home. Especially with us being in the northern Midwest, where winters can be long, this simulator has been a very nice addition that has enabled me to at least continue to get some realistic practice indoors during the cold season. Once you are set up with the E6 software, everything works pretty painlessly. My preferred setup is to just use my iPhone or iPad, as the software just seems to run more smoothly on it; then, if I want to utilize the bigger screen, I would AirPlay it either to my projector (in our family room) or the TV (in our living room). Even on the smaller screen though, I really have no complaints, especially when I am just practicing in the driving range. As long as the device is on, the software finds it automatically if you are set up for it as the simulator; it is then easy enough to follow the directions on the screen to take your swings. The result seems to be pretty much in line with what I get in real life for the most part as well. It seems to be a bit more forgiving when it comes to how open/closed your club is (so, the direction seems to be more consistently center for me compared to what I usually do); however, the distances seem to be pretty accurate. It provides some good data as well in terms of your swing. The one thing that it cannot really do well is if you are topping or chunking the ball; I don't think it has a really good read on the height of your swing based on my experience. The two biggest negatives that I have seen so far are (and hence, my star off in the review): 1. The biggest problem that I have had is that the E6 software continues to crash on my desktop (and hence, one of the reasons why I am using iOS devices). The software works fine until I try to configure the simulator as TruGolf Mini, and it crashes. I do think it might have to do with whether the device is connected, as I have been successful before with it not crashing; however, on the iOS, the configuration still works fine even without the device connected. 2. It seems like it isn't sensitive enough to pick up on the smaller swings (such as near the green - practicing your short game with a shorter backswing) consistently. This has proven a bit problematic when playing the full course; it is the main reason why I won't be renewing the subscription, as I mainly just practice on the range anyways. Overall though, especially considering the price, this is a really nice simulator. It has definitely allowed me to continue to get some similar-to-real-life swings in during the cold season; I would recommend it to those who are looking for a budget solution in this product area.

It works well but definitely not a training tool. I wish my shots on a golf course were as accurate as this portrays my shots to be. It's a nice toy, but I will stick with my WII.

So I line up my shot, pick my aiming point, adjust my footing, draw back the club and swing hard through the ball, keeping my head down of course though my follow-through. Of course, I left the club face too open and the ball starts to slice off line to the right. Good distance and flight overall, but ends up in the right rough for a tricky second shot. This could be on a real course - it's certainly what tends to happen to me on a real course - but it's not. It's in the E6 golf simulator using this TruGolf tracker. Simulator is the right word - this ISN'T a video game like the PGA games for many platforms - this is a true simulator with a nice tracker. The tracker can be attached to a real club if you like, but I like the "simulated" club that comes with this setup. Once setup, the simulator runs well on my fairly modern gaming laptop (you do want something with a dedicated graphics processor in it, though you can also use an iPad if you don't have a newer gaming PC - if you use iOS you can airplay to normal target devices or use an HDMI adapter, with a PC, you can connect a video out to a screen for display). The graphics aren't crazy (they're nice enough for these purposes) but the reason it needs the medium to higher end hardware is that the simulator is crunching a LOT of data on ball flight and whatnot. And it turns out that it does model what happens to my ball in real life. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The setup process is sort of a pain - you have to register online, including entering a credit card (there's no subscription fee up front, but there is a renewal if you want full access to everything, though you can play several courses locally even if you don't renew), then install the application, connect the tracker (after charging it) and then bring the setup you did online into your local install. It took me several tries to get each step to work, despite having extensive technology / IT experience. That was a bit annoying, but once setup, it works just fine so I did remove one star for the setup pains. So if you want to play golf indoors for not much more than the cost of a few rounds (or maybe less than one round, depending on where you play), this is a great way to do that. Give it a try today!
