Fantastic boot! I just bought my second pair. To be clear, I am not wearing this as a "work boot". I wore it as an everyday shoe to work, never in the dirt, mud, etc. They have held up incredibly well under those circumstances. I'm moving them out to the barn for their second life, and breaking in my new pair now. Love these boots, and at this price I think they are a steal. Classic design, very well made, comfortable and they age well.

IMO Shoes should be assessed on build quality, materials, appearance and fit. The first two are objective, the latter two are obviously not. These boots meet my standards and needs as to all four, especially at this price point - although I have inserted a pair of Dr. Scholl's insoles to fine tune the fit. I would prefer Vibram soles because (based on my past experience) the original soles will wear to smoothness in a season or two which, in mud, can be dangerous; they are useless on ice. However the welt permits resoling and I can make my own choice if necessary. Also, there is a small leather loop fob at the rear top of each boot, presumably to help pull them on - often needed for boots. However these loops are too small to put a finger through or to grip firmly so they are largely aesthetic. Golden Fox could fix this for a few pennies. For me the appeal of these boots outweighs these shortcomings. I have had Golden Fox shoes before and found them well built, durable, waterproof, good looking and comfortable - particularly after a few days of break in. I have been looking for a decent and affordable boot without success for quite a while; Amazon has graciously accepted a good many returns which did not fit the bill. But I am very satisfied to keep (and wear) these boots and, if they perform as I hope, to resole them in the future. Having said all of that if the fit is not right for you, no quality, materials or style will make up for it. Consequently note that free returns of Golden Fox shoes is not always offered. Be aware. A possible downside to these boots is that, consistent with the substantial materials and solid construction, they are relatively heavy. I wear a size 13 and each size 13 boot, with laces, weighs about 33 oz.

So a while back I was looking to get into heritage style footwear and since I had a brown pair of boots from another company I felt I needed a black pair to have as an alternative for such occasions or when I wanted to wear a black pair of shoes. Not having the money for a Thursday captain or a Georgia small batch ( the Georgia didn’t offer a narrow width either) I wanted something affordable but heritage style in a narrow width ( yes I can wear a 1966 vintage jungle boot in a narrow width). I got the golden fox boots not knowing what to expect, so I tried them on one Thursday night ( I typically go out Friday or Saturday evenings). Loved them right away, didn’t look like the padding would do the job but it did, that padding combined with the softer rubber sole produced a boot that didn’t beat my foot up, didn’t hurt after walking or standing for an extended period. As I only wear them on the weekends currently I suspect they’ll hold up for a while ( as most shoes that see wear that seldom should). The tread pattern does have some wear after a few months but they broke in very fast and are holding up well. The laces stay tied and they don’t fall off. My foot does not slop around in the shoe and due to comfort and performance I’m considering buying the “ overlord” shoe cause I’m looking for a more cordovian color from a brand that actually gets it. As to fit I ordered the standard size 11 from the drop down menu and they fit my narrow width foot very snugly and despite them telling me 10.5 I still went with the 11 and was not disappointed as I prefer a bit of extra space ( which is maybe .25 of an inch of that cause they fit so well ). I definitely wouldn’t consider them a work boot unless you do more office or light duty work. As a casual weekend or general purpose boot however? Can’t recommend them enough

Just two weeks after I got them, they have become my go to casual boots. There is some break in but they took me about a week. I've had Red Wings and Thursday before and sent then back, never fit right, these are snug, the tow box is just right and thr laces are secure, never had them come undone during the day. For my feet, they ran a half size bigger. I normally wear a 9.5 and had to send the first pair back as my foot slid. Went down a half size and they fit perfectly.

I have purchased boots for years and this recent boot here as well as other recently purchased boots. These boots chinese made ( I have no issue with that) they are narrow in the back and I need a shoe horn to get into them. I have no other boots purchased recent or in the past that when the size was correct that has been an issue.

I have been using these boots for about 17 months at my place of employment as a finish carpenter, 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. The sole is starting to look like it needs replacement and the leather is plenty scuffed but boy did these boots hold up and still going strong. They are still comfortable and I will be taking the home this week to resole them with a vibram 2021 sole. Will also clean, condition and wax them for winter. I have definitely got my money's worth. Absolutely a bargain for the price. I have lots of boots at several times the price of these boots and they are also very well made but I like these boots because it won't bother me if I spill paint on them. They are my beautiful beater boots, a great value for a tough boot.
