  • A new value leader in wireless mic systems!
Model: FSD-WEC Kit2
The media could not be loaded. My first impression of the Godox WEC Kit 2 was a positive one. First off, the charging case that holds the transmitters and receiver, is protectively packaged in a well-engineered semi-hard case, the same type of design that I appreciate in the larger cases that house my Godox AD100 and AD200 flashes. The case provides excellent protection from accidental impact and the elements, but also provides a storage compartment for the supplied “dead cat” windscreens, a TRS to TRS cable for connecting the receiver output to a camera audio input, or portable recorder, and a TRS to TRRS cable for connecting it to a smartphone input. Oh, and there’s a USB-A to USB-C connector to connect to the output of your USB power supply. You can drop the two transmitters and receiver into the charging case and connect a USB-C charger via a connector on the bottom of the case. Integral magnets hold the three components into the charging case even if the case is open and inverted. Though tiny, the charging/storage case houses not only the three wireless components, but a battery bank, as well. So, plugging a charger into the case’s USB-C connector charges the battery bank as well as the two transmitters and the receiver. A digital display on the front of the case indicates the percentage of charge that is on the system. LED indicators are also provided on each component to indicate when the battery power has dropped to 10% on each transmitter and the receiver. USB-C connectors are also present on each transmitter and the receiver, should you ever choose to charge them outside the case, and these even allow an external power supply to power a WEC component while it is in use. Pairing is performed through the case connections, so that the transmitters are paired to the receiver when they are removed from the case. Pairing may also be accomplished via a pairing button on the edge of each transmitter. The WEC Kit 2 components are very lightweight, and very small. One of the design elements that makes the small size possible is the use of buttons and LEDs that serve more than one function. Buttons perform a different function when given a long press vs a short one, for example. And the LEDs change color for different indications or show a status via blinking or steady output. This may require a bit of a learning curve, but it is not all that confusing after using the system for a while. One high-end feature that I was surprised to find in such a small and affordable wireless system is the noise reduction that may be switched on or off at each transmitter. This is a quite effective noise gate that suppresses a fair amount of background noise, such as from fans in video lights or even room reverberation. Most importantly, the audio quality of the system is excellent, at least in the voice range, which is all I have tested, with sound quality that compares favorably to wireless and wired lav systems I’ve used that cost many times the price of this Godox system. My testing of the transmitter/receiver range didn’t work out to the distance specified, but I’m very used to that with wireless mic systems I’ve used for many years. The actual range far surpasses anything I ever need in my audio for video applications. OK, so what is not included in this very affordable system? The most obvious feature not on this system would be jacks to accommodate an external lavalier microphone. Given the transmitter’s small size, I suspect that most content creators will have no problem with this, as a large percentage of them are not using that function on systems that offer it. This system also does not include internal recording, as some higher-priced systems do. Again, this is offset, for many users at least, by the small size and low cost. In real-world testing, one thing I should mention that impressed me was how effective the windscreens are, how easy they are to put on the mic and, yet, how well they stay on. Those are three benefits that I can’t say have all existed in some other wireless systems I’ve used. The spring clips on the transmitters work well to hold the mic/transmitter firmly in place on each shirt that I’ve tested them on. My favorite position is usually mounting the transmitter under the edge of my shirt, with the clip on the outside. Yeah, the white print is not ideal on camera, but most viewers won’t notice it, and a small piece of black gaffer tape easily obscures the advertising, if it is a problem. The receiver clip fits perfectly in the hot shoe of my camera or the cold shoe on a camera cage. Combining ease of use, small size, light weight, great audio quality and an amazingly low purchase price, the Godox WEC Kit 2 is a new value leader, ready for professional use, yet affordable for all of us. ... show more

  • Unbelievably small and powerful little mic for quick interview setups!
Model: FSD-WEC Kit1
Love the size of this little microphone kit. It easily fits in the tiniest space in all of my camera bags. It doesn't need a big bulky charger, and everything charges off of USB-C. The transmitter / mic combo is so small I can just clip it on the lapel of talent and no wires to run down shirts. Sound quality is great, haven't had any issues with interference or drop-outs, and internal mic sounds great when I take it into Adobe Premiere. Mic has an included windscreen which I haven't really tested, but inside the mic works great. The receiver fits on a cold shoe mount which works great on the cage for my Blackmagic Pocket 4K and my Panasonic GH5. The kit includes wiring to a smartphone and camera 1/8" inch input. Couldn't be happier with my purchase! It's a fast, tiny, powerful little run-and-gun wireless lav kit. ... show more

  • Excellent wireless mic for iPhone and DSLR
Model: FSD-WEC Kit1
I use the microphone with my iPhone and Sony DSLR. It’s quick and easy to setup as well as light weight. The audio clarity is exceptional especially with the noise reduction turned on. I plan to use this mic at weddings where I can have a mic at the front while I’m at the back. The mic is small and relatively inconspicuous. I love that the receiver slides into my camera hot shoe! My only concern is having the Godox logo show up in a wedding film or pictures. I think I can get around that easily enough. So far battery life has been really good. I’m happy with this purchase and will be adding it to my daily kit. ... show more

  • Very good sound quality, and very simple to set up. The case isn't great, though.
Model: FSD-WEC Kit1
I only really have a couple of complaints about this mic setup. First, the case is ridiculous. It has a molded insert that can't be removed, which holds just the receiver and one mic. If I ever wanted to upgrade to a second mic, the case would be useless. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't absurdly oversized. Secondly, while there's a USB port on the receiver and it DOES appear as a USB audio device, the output level is unusably quiet. I know Godox doesn't advertise this functionality, even in the manual, but it would be nice if this worked properly. My phone has a 3.5mm jack, but this would have eliminated the dongle for those who don't. Third, it would be nice if the mic also had an input to use a lav. I know this is meant to be a simple setup, but Godox's photo flashes (of which I own a few) have conditioned me to expect versatility. Now that the bad is out of the way, on to the good. The sound quality is excellent. Very clear, and it does a good job of only picking up the speaker it is attached to. A deadcat is included to cut down on wind noise, and there's also a 'dynamic noise reduction mode', but the weather has been too calm here to test those out. If I do get some results, I'll update my review. The mic itself is VERY small, although the giant GODOX logo and bright power LED do make it a little less discrete than it could be. Still, Rode and other brands do the exact same thing, so I can't knock Godox too much. On the receiver side, there's some clever design. The clip also doubles as a hotshoe mount. It does a good job of staying in place. I really love the attention to detail Godox gave here, the rubber pad in the clip has cutouts for the 'fangs' of the clip, so they rest on plastic instead of digging into the rubber. It's a small thing, but appreciated. The ability to separate two microphones into two separate tracks is a VERY good feature. It's also nice that Godox includes two separate cables, for phones and cameras, in the box. Build quality isn't bad, but also not amazing. Fit and finish is great, but the plastic does feel slightly cheap, not the usual Godox standard. This is overall a very compelling product. There are some features I'd like to see from other brands, like a display with VU meter on the receiver, but I can't complain too much just because of the price. This is much cheaper than most of the other competing products on the market right now. It's also a very good first showing from Godox, and has been basically problem-free. I wish the case were better and that they'd finished the USB audio functionality. Otherwise, it's very impressive for the price. ... show more
