This is a capable PC for media work and a great all-around mini-PC for daily use. The item came well-packaged, and setup was easy. I absolutely love this device. I transitioned from a tower computer that was very old and this one is very compact and works very well. The only concern that I had is that it did not come with any kind of programs to prepare documents. But nonetheless I would definitely recommend it

I got rid of windows 11 on first boot and installed SteamOS but if you want to keep windows you can still dual boot SteamOS on this. I bought this for my living room as a little gaming PC/Steam Machine for my TV. - Plays most of my steam library on High/Ultra settings 1080p 60fps but struggles on AAA titles such as red dead redemption 2 which is to be expected for such demanding games. It's Bluetooth works well with WiFi/ Wireless peripherals and such as an Xbox One controller. As an Emulator this will run basically everything using emulation station on SteamOS at 1440p 100+FPS this is a beast eats everything you can throw at it from Nintendo Switch, PS3, PS2, Gamecube and Xbox/360 games flawlessly. Would recommend this product for someone who wants a mini steam machine for their living room, makes even more sense to do this now since valve raised the prices of the Steam Deck and said the official steam machine will probably retail around $1200-$1500. If you are planning on doing the same make sure to buy one with a Ryzen CPU/APU, this is VERY IMPORTANT if you plan on flashing SteamOS on this, as SteamOS doesn't natively support intel integrated graphics. ... show more

I picked up the GMKtec M8 mainly for two reasons: • light-to-moderate gaming (think GTA 5 and Mad Max–level stuff, not esports chasing), and • day-to-day coding and dev work. I wanted something meaningfully more capable than Intel Iris graphics, but without going full tower PC and this thing delivered. Performance has been excellent so far. The Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H feels fast for development, and the integrated Radeon 660M is a clear step up from what you get in most mini PCs. I’m running Mad Max at 1080p on a single monitor and it’s been smooth and very playable. 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD keep everything feeling snappy. I wanted something with Oculink support in case I wanted to upgrade the gpu in the future. The I/O options on this make it feel more like a compact desktop than a stripped-down mini PC. Overall, this is a great choice if you want a small, powerful PC that can handle real work and some actual gaming without taking up much desk space. Very happy with the purchase. ... show more

COULD NOT ACTIVATE WINDOWS 11 PRO. Error message is vague, only that I needed to pay another $200 for a working windows activation. Also was sent a previously shipped item... probably returned for this reason but the seller hoped I would ignore the activation issue.

If you're using this for a basic PC or perhaps with a thunderbolt setup and eGPU, it's a pretty good deal for the price. Did a bit of light stress testing and I don't have any complaints on the performance. More than most could ask for at this price point. And for the size the port options are decent. However, connecting via Oculink and turning everything on results in the PC freezing on the GMKtec loading screen. And yes the drivers are updated. So their BIOS likely has some issues. ... show more

I bought this mini PC for a client who needed a new computer for typical home use - web access, e-mail, writing documents, managing budgets, kids' homework - but with 1TB of onboard storage. Prices on memory products have shot up recently, and this model was priced attractively compared to other mini PCs with that much onboard storage, plus GMKtec was a company whose products I'd had good experiences with before, so it seemed like a good choice. I have no complaints about the hardware. Actually, I rather like the distinctive styling. This model also stands out for having a USB4 port, while others in this price range usually have USB C 3.2 ports. Most people don't have any USB C devices, much less USB4, but a little future-proofing can't hurt, right? It also has dual 2.5 Gb/sec Ethernet ports. Most buyers probably wouldn't need more than one Ethernet port, and a 1 Gb/sec (gigabit) port would be fine, but having dual 2.5 Gb/sec ones is interesting and might be helpful for some niche uses. The most curious feature of this model is the OCuLink port. I mostly see OCuLink ports on higher-end mini PCs whose manufacturers want to make it possible to use them as true gaming PCs; the use the OCuLink port to connect a dock that holds a real video card. It seems a bit odd to me to include OCuLink in a mini PC that doesn't aspire to such high performance applications, but it doesn't hurt, either. (If you look up OCuLink, you'll see that in theory, it can be used to attach other high-speed peripherals, but in practice, I've only seen it used for attaching high-end video card docks, specifically to mini PCs.) One notable thing lacking with this mini PC is a VESA mounting kit. Most mini PCs include a kit to enable you to mount the mini PC on the back of a monitor with VESA screw holes, monitor mounts or even just a wall or a desk. Not only does the GMKtec NucBox M8 not come with such a kit, but there is no provision whatsoever on the mini PC to work with such a kit. It's simply intended to sit on the desk, maybe under the monitor or even hidden in an alcove or a drawer, and stand on its feet. This isn't an issue for me, because most of my clients find it more convenient to have their mini PCs sit on the desk under the screen, where they can easily see and reach the power button and USB ports. Speaking of USB ports, this one has four Type A (regular flat) USB ports. One, on the back, is USB 2.0, and the rest are USB 3.2. Setup is the textbook Microsoft Windows 11 OOBE (Out of Box Experience) with one exception: GMKTec has customized the OOBE to let you click on an "I don't have Internet" link on the screen that lets you connect to a wi-fi network. This makes it easy to set the computer up with a local user account rather than a Microsoft account. In fact, they encourage you to do so via a sticker that they've placed over the Ethernet ports. The sticker has a message printed on it that suggests that you set the computer up BEFORE you plug in any Ethernet cables. I wholeheartedly approve, as most of my clients prefer to have their computers set up without a Microsoft account. Of course, if you want to set your computer up with a Microsoft account, there's nothing wrong with that. Just go ahead and remove that sticker on the Ethernet ports and plug in your network cable, or connect the mini PC up to your wi-fi network when the setup wizard lands on that page. I did discover one problem, for which I subtracted a star: my GMKtec NucBox M8 shipped without a valid Windows license. That is to say, it had Windows 11 Pro installed on it, but Windows wasn't activated. Since I'm a professional IT consultant who charges for his time, and the time spent setting up a new computer for a client is worth more than the cost of a Windows license, I decided to simply purchase a Windows license for the mini PC rather than send it back or work with GMKTec on this. If this happens to you, and you don't have paid time invested in your computer setup, then I would recommend you contact Amazon for resolution. ... show more
