  • This MINI PC... Games (and a whole lot more)!
Size: 32GB+2TB I 8945HS
This is my 3rd Mini PC from GMKTec, and I've been very impressed with all of them. This latest model has an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS with integrated Radeon 780M graphics and is being marketed as a mini gaming PC, so I thought I'd put it to the test. I installed Fortnite through the Epic Games Launcher and asked my son to demo. I attached some pictures and a video, but he was surprised at how well it ran the game on high settings. My monitor tops out at 2K resolution (2560x1440 pixels / QHD 1440p), and while not 4K, he was still playing with good quality and frame rate without having to drop to 1080p (which is fine too). The fan does get a little noisy during heavy loading (i.e., gaming), but it isn't too bad. I recalled my first GMKTec mini PC has the ability to run in a lower power mode with slower fan speeds through BIOS adjustments, so I looked through the BIOS on this PC but didn't find what I was looking for. I'll need to dig a little deeper here. This PC has Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, so Pro is an unexpected upgrade, although with the networking capabilities this PC has, it probably is a necessity. It has 32.0GB RAM and a 2.0TB SSD. There are traditional USB A slots on the back for keyboard and mouse, but it also has numerous USB C 4.0 ports on the front and back, one of which is directly next to the power plug. I need to look into this because I may be able to use my 140W USB-C wall charger to power this PC through its USB-C 4.0 port instead of using the larger laptop-style charger brick and cable that it came with. I attached some benchmark results, including one from CPU-Z showing this PC's processor is slightly faster in single and multi-thread testing compared to an Intel Core i9-11900K. This PC is fast, and the little LED multi-colored fan is a nice touch. The top clear lid comes off easily if you turn it counter-clockwise about 45° - putting it back on is easy too by doing the inverse. Out of the 3 GMKtec PCs I've purchased, I had an issue requiring support only once with the first PC. Their support team responded within 12 hours and quickly resolved my issue. If you're looking for something small to free up desk space but powerful enough to do anything business-related while being able to game too, then this PC is a great choice for you. I purchased their next model down, the GMKTec NucBox K8 Plus, to run in our conference room at work, and it handles large assemblies in SolidWorks (3D CAD software) very smoothly. I know you'd be surprised at the performance at any size, but in something this small, it is remarkable. Laptop components in a mini PC form factor for the win! I'll never buy a huge tower again. ... show more

  • Great livingroom mini-pc for lightweight gaming
I bought this Mini-PC so that I could put it in my living room to play video games with my family. Normally I am pretty particular about other people touching my stuff, so I didn't want to bring my Steam Deck to the living room. This Mini-PC solves that problem for me. I placed this in the living room knowing that the small form factor would keep it protected from most forms of damage (it will fit in an average hand). So far, this has been the case and has worked out well (it should be noted that this PC comes with the hardware to attach to the back of a TV via the VESA mount). This Mini-PC comes with Windows 11 Pro. I am not a big fan of Windows for most tasks and the gaming scene on Linux has come a very very long way in the last few years, so I immediately put Bazzite OS on it (my favorite Linux gaming distro outside of SteamOS. It mimics a lot of SteamOS features and feel). The installation was flawless and all the hardware worked great from the start. Since this is AMD based GameScope works great as well, which brings a nice console like experience. For day to day tasks, performance on this PC is fantastic. I can't say much about it, other than it runs smooth and will tear through any regular tasks. For gaming performance, you need to both keep your expectations in check (it will not be anywhere near as powerful as a PC running a 300W modern day GPU), and be ready to be impressed at the same time. Total system TDP is around 45-55 Watts when under load. My TV is 720p so that is what I play all my games at downstairs. Indie games are generally going to have no problem running 60FPS+ on this system, even at 1080p most likely. I personally have been playing Little Nightmares 2, which gets 60FPS at 720p. I've also been playing the Kingdom Hearts Remasters on Steam which also runs flawlessly at 60FPS. The game I play the most when the family is busy is Final Fantasy XIV. I had to lower the graphics down quite a bit to hit good performance numbers, but it runs pretty well. The situations in FFXIV are going to have quite a bit of variance. Most dungeons/instances I easily get 60FPS. Busy towns will drop the FPS to around 40. Some of the more detailed areas will also drop a lot of frames. For dungeons, fates, and crafting though, this thing plays the game good enough for me! This Mini-PC is very powerful for its form factor. If this is the form factor you are looking for and you want to do light gaming (but heavier than most Mini-PCs), this is definitely the system to buy. ... show more

  • Impressive little machine for our AI robotics project
Size: 32GB+1TB I 6850U
I am super impressed with this little unit so far. While I am not using it for gaming, it clearly has the specs and the beef to do a great job for a Mini PC. The specs are solid and hold up to stress testing, the unit is solid, it's quiet, has a great array of ports, and seems pretty durable. Heat isn't a particular issue and the fact that it has an Oculink port should excite anyone wanting to use it for more serious gaming. I however am using it for an agentic ai/robotics project for work and find it perfect both size wise and spec wise, plus those of you a little more on the tech side it has some decent capacity as we run both Windows and Linux along with a whole host of additional custom software for the physical interface, sensor arrays, etc. and it's able to hang. ... show more

  • Some issues with the 2.5Gb ports and TrendNet GreenNet gigabit switches.
Size: 32GB+2TB I 8945HS
This is my first multi-gig ethernet equipped tech item (not counting WiFi 6 stuff) and it greeted me with some surprising failures. I posted my initial impressions, and updated impressions, but let's boil it down to soup and nuts. The 2.5Gb Intel ethernet controller and Windows 11 driver does NOT play nice with TrendNet greennet enabled gigabit switches. I had to replace my old reliable and fast enough for literally everything else on my desk TEG-S80G and get a switch with 2.5Gb ports, which my first one was a steaming pile of fertilizer. NOT GMKtecs fault. When we went from 10 Mbit, to 100, then 100Mbit to 1Gb backwards compatibility was well tested particularly with Intel hardware. This is simply not the case with this new multi gig generation of hardware. Thus the reason I have given this 3 stars and not more. This is NOT a reflection on GMKtec beyond the fact they chose this chip to use for the wired 2.5Gb interface. I am pretty sure they wanted to go premium in their component selection, but I almost wonder if they would have been better suited using the RealTek chipset instead. My other issues were 100% related to the power profiles in the default load of WIndows 11. Basically USB and Bluetooth were allowed to be turned off during non usage. NOT GOOD for a system that uses USB keyboard and mouse! Probably no big deal under most applications, but in mine since I am going through a KVM, there are delays to the USB signal and I figure this is causing problems. The hardware is spot on, REALLY fast with the Ryzen 9 and Radeon graphics. Maybe not super gaming fast, but video editing fast... I have it set up with CyberLink PowerDirector 2025 and processing 4K videos using the AI editing features is smooth and wickedly fast. There is allegedly a VESA mount, not sure how I could use it though, The overall package is definately MUCH larger than a Raspberry Pi, approximately the size of 3 Pi5s in cases, but no comparison in performance either. This thing finishes jobs before the Pi finishes boothing.. So summary. ALL of the problems I have had with this and everything I have had to work out has been related to power saving / energy efficiency settings and technogies that are not adjustable (The Greennet switches are unmanaged). So not entirely a hardware problem, and yes energy efficiency is a GOOD thing, but not at the cost of functionality, and reliability. So 1 star knocked down. Once the weirdness is solved it IS wicked fast, although all of the gaming I am doing on it is old DOS games via GOG and Steam, but no issues there... Is IS a fantastic little platform for creatives with more than enough grunt to do the heavy lifting processing large 4K videos and audio. Overall very impressed. ... show more

  • Great little PC – Well worth the money
Size: 16GB+512GB I 7640HS
Like many of us the time arrived to upgrade from Windows 10 but my outdated PC couldn’t be upgraded. I prefer desktops but the new Windows 11 models were outrageously expensive. So I did some lookin’ around and discovered the world of mini PCs. Based on other reviews I zoomed in on GMKtec, and this model Nuk Box M6 Ultra seemed to have all the capabilities I needed: Compact size, fast processor, SSD drives and DR5 memory. And with this model you can even upgrade the SSD and the memory. It also comes with built in WiFi and Bluetooth. I received the PC in a couple days, plugged it in and in minutes it was up and running Windows 11, though it did take a little time to connect to Microsoft and upgrade the software. The nice thing is that it only takes 22 seconds for the Windows desktop to appear after I turn it on! It is very fast and from the video I uploaded here you can see it not only supports 3 monitors but plays three video streams at the same time flawlessly without a glitch, stutter or freeze. I also had no problem with WiFi connectivity as the PC detected and connected to my WiFi quickly and seamlessly. There was also no evidence of overheating, and fan noise was hardly noticeable (my cat purrs louder). The sound though headphones and external amplified speakers was crisp without static or fuzziness. I can’t comment on the types of games you can actually play on the M6 as I’m not a game player but from other reviewers it seems they were quite satisfied with its performance. I was totally satisfied the number of browser windows I could open and programs I could run simultaneously. . The only thing I question are the inclusion of two LAN jacks as I don’t believe two are necessary or practical for home use. There is also no separate microphone input jack however that is easily overcome by using an inexpensive audio splitter cable or a USB microphone. Finally a live chat box would be nice for solving problems without having to play email tag. All in all,the M6 utlra performs like a little workhorse, and for the money, it’s a great value. ... show more

  • waste of $370
Size: 16GB+512GB I 7640HS
caught this mini pc on sale for $370. so far so good, i’ve played many games, sims 4 (modded), all the grand theft autos, south of midnight & a few others no issues. i’m only giving 4 stars because i don’t have enough storage alone. i did already have an external hard drive but i thought it came with more storage space. it may be because of my sims mods. Sometimes it does get loud with the cooling fan but it doesn’t last long. for the price i got it im pleasantly pleased. ::::::UPDATE:::::: this thing is an expensive pos, it crashed in the middle of me playing the new 007, screen started glitching, i was told to reinstall windows & it won’t read my USB. then when i get it to read the USB it says it doesn’t have the drivers needed to set it up. I’ve ran into every issue. right now it only loads into BIOS. I reached out to customer service they say it’s a bad SSD. & I have to remove the SSD and send it to them on my own dime. I requested an entirely new system since i’m under warranty, they declined. ... show more

  • Excellent little box with less power draw than I suspected
I own a few GMK boxes, and this is my favorite. Power draw is 8w idle, 21 at load streaming 2 OBS streams. That's better than the Intel version I have, which is slightly higher (but still low) at 10w/26w. Although I don't play games on this, video compression is fast and solid. The only thing the Intel version is superior on is Plex or Jellyfin transcoding, but that's a Plex issue and not this unit (AMD is always behind Intel on media servers due to QuickSync support). Otherwise, the fan is quiet for me with no loud noise. It's well vented on both sides and stays cool to the touch. Interior is nicely shielded and clean. Having 2 2.5GB ethernet ports is a bonus, and great for NAS or appliance purposes (but not my use case). I have a gigabit setup at home, and a file transfer saturates the 1GB speed so I'll assume 2.5GB won't break a sweat if that's your topology. USB 3 speeds are up to par from what I can tell. Wifi 6E was a bit slow for me, but might be my setup as I have 70 wireless clients (!). I'm happy to say the pre-installed Win 11 is the fully Professional version (not Home). Although it arrived without cruft, I wiped and reinstalled Windows 11 Pro because I just like to know what's on my system. The downloadable drivers on the GMK site installed without a hitch after that, so no yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager (install the AMD Catalyst drivers from their site for the most up to date ones). The same Win 11 product key was automatically applied and activated with no interaction needed on my part on reinstallation. A great buy for this little workhorse, I'm happy! Planning to drop a ton of servers on it (FTP, Wireguard, VNC etc.) and it should work just fine idling low. ... show more

  • Powerful yet inexpensive Mini PC
The GMKtec M6 AMD Ryzen 5 Gaming PC Mini PC is inexpensive yet quite powerful. This is my second GMKtec mini PC as I bought an GMKtec M5 about 6 months ago and loved it. I am not a gamer but I am an enthusiastic home lab tinkerer and the older full size PCs I had were crowding my desk space. With a new small NAS PC and the two mini GMKtec PCs, I now have 3 computers using only 1/4 the space that one old tower used to take up. I kept one old tower PC in case I need the PCIe slots for add on cards but I do almost all my compute tasks on my two GMKtec PCs. The older M5 I have set up as a Proxmox server with multiple VMs running and the GMKtec M6 is now my main desktop that I run KDE Neon Linux on which you can see the screen print of it in the pictures supplied. Proxmox, Windows 11 Pro, and KDE Neon all run wonderfully on both the GMKtec mini PCs. With 32GB of ram in both units and the dual 2.5GB ethernet ports in both for fast file transfers they will outperform my old towers that had slower gigabit ethernet in them. The GMKtec M6 with it's dual 2.5GB ethernet ports and internal connections for fast SSD drives, this could make a great stand alone home lab and router/firewall if you set it up with Proxmox and then ran VMs for your router software ( OPNsense, PFsense, DD-WRT ) and VMs for Windows and or Linux distros. I strongly recommend the GMKtec M6 for pretty much any PC use you need it to do with it. Outfitted with lots of ram and a couple SSD drives, the possibilities are endless. ... show more
