  • Wow, very fast for just 15 watts of power.
Edit update again 01/10/2025: I fixed my fan issue and as promised raised the score back up to 5 stars. It is a good, fast little computer but does get hot when you are gaming. I recommend popping the top off and exposing the top fan to the outside as this really helps in keeping it cool. When you put the top back on, when your finished, don't snap the top back in place so it will be easy for you to remove when needed. I know this would bother some people but I am not bothered by it as it helps keep it cool. Still five stars for what it can do for it's size. Still highly recommended. Edit up date 01/09/2025: I had to reduce the GMKtec M5 Plus from five stars to three stars because the little top cooling fan will not work all the time. I have the lid on but not snapped in because I have to take it off to force the fan to run. A quick spin with my fingers gets it going but I got to keep an eye on it other wise the little computer will over heat even though it's only fifteen watts. This is serious and the reason for only three stars. I am going to try to contact them and if they help I will improve the review back to five stars. *Next is another concern that has a lot of YouTube press and that is, Mini PC's shipping out with Malware or viruses. Let me make clear that GMKtec has been cleared so far and I tested mine forward and backwards with zero positives but you should be made aware of this. The most offending company (watch YouYube to get the companies name as it is all over) still has not completely cleaned their computers and are being very sneaky in the way they hide the Malware. One buyer replaced his M2 SSD and loaded a fresh copy of Windows 11. If you are one of those people who are sensitive to computer security then you need to know what you are getting into with Mini PC's. I didn't know this before I bought mine. Please check out the problem on YouTube before you buy. If you do buy, do not connect to the net till you have run a complete check. I recommend the very long but important Windows 11, full virus scan and download the free version of Malwear Bytes and run a test with that. I hope Amazon allows this review update to be printed as this is an important issue that everyone should be made aware of before they buy a mini PC. First off, it worked right out the box. Early setup could not have been any easier, a smart 8 year old could have set this mini computer up. That's not stretching it either. However setting up all the drivers from AMD and getting Windows 11 up to date did take time and requires someone a little more knowledgeable. I bought this as a novelty but now using it all the time. My big gaming computer has taken a back seat to this amazing little mini computer. Pros: Very quite, Very fast, Yes it plays games but more on the casual level. Beautiful eye popping monitor visuals, It uses only 15 watts of power. That means it runs very cool. The AMD processor the 5825U is designed to run on 15 watts. Cons: Terrible instructions with tiny print. Example, they send you a piece of black metal with some black screws that looks like it might be some sort of mounting bracket but the instructions give you zero information on what it is for. It uses only 15 watts of power. I know I had that as a pro but it could also be a con if you want to play more powerful AAA games. But who would use a mini computer to play AAA games like Cyber Punk 2077 or Hogwarts. Come on, use common sense. I will end this by saying do your research. Not all mini computers are only fifteen watts like this one. And if you look you will find the newest mini computers are AM5 platform and use up to 70 watts. But those units run from seven hundred and fiftly to almost a thousand dollars. You start spending that much money you might as well buy a full size gaming rig. Highly recommended ... show more

  • Great Linux Developer Machine
I wanted an affordable Linux developer machine for my WebDev business. Didn't really need a full desktop machine with powerful graphics. Just needed a solid processor, a good amount of RAM and storage. This GMKtec checked all the boxes. Given the price I wasn't expecting an amazing industrial design like a Mac Mini. It's pretty plasticy but has all the ports I needed. It's powerful enough to drive a couple of monitors. Boots up quickly and performs well for the spec. I was able to quickly partition the drive, load my favorite Linux distro, and get to work fast. No driver issues. A solid buy. Calling it a Gaming machine is a stretch. It might be okay for simple games but nothing to graphically demanding. ... show more

  • Surprising performance in a little package
In my real life, I am a Technical Writer and Knowledge Manager for the company I work for, so if this review seems a little long or maybe too detailed, I wanted to make sure you got as much information as possible as I started using the computer. At home I am an avid movie and personal video collector and I just completed rebuilding my video server. It is in a tower case and is occupying the only space I have in my office for such a computer. As part of the rebuild, I intended to separate the serving and processing functions, so I was searching for a compact solution that would allow me to render video content for the server. This computer has provided everything I was looking for and more. These are the criteria I used in deciding on a replacement computer High speed processing I needed a computer that would help with video rendering. I am not a gamer but the performance of a gaming computer would speed up the video work I do. With the initial testing, this design is completing the rendering tasks about 20% faster that my previous computer. A compact Design. I have limited space on my desk for a PC. This mini PC was great as the size gave me options on my already crowded desk. Its size allowed me to place it behind a monitor, but there were also 2 mounting screw holes in the case so I decided to mount it to the back of my desk. Convenience of Several connection options. With 4 USB A ports I was able to connect my printers, keyboard and mouse and still had USB C connection options for my USB monitor and an External SSD device. See the picture Exterior Pictures Showing Ports and Top Removal Along with that connectivity there are options to connect wireless networks and to use Bluetooth top connect audio devices like headphones. Expandability In this small package I could still add an additional standard sized SSD. The surprise expandability is found in the Oculink Port this port gives PCIe connectivity speed for external devices. What Came in the Box The computer Introductory Booklet (Unfortunately not an English Page, but other picture have some English labels.) Power Supply and Power Cord HDMI cable (Must boot first time on HDMI) Mounting Bracket (No instructions on the exact uses. I mounted mine using the mounting holes on the back of the case.) See the Picture What's In the Box Setting up the Computer Unpacking the computer was straight forward. There was no assembly required. The only things needed to get started is a monitor to connect the HDMI cable (provided), a keyboard & mouse and to plug in the power supply. I followed the instructions on the yellow notice over the network ports advising that the system would set up much more quickly without Windows attempting to update during the initial boot up. This worked great and I will use this process on any other computer I will build. Within a few minutes, I was at the windows desktop. I was in a position to start installing software. See picture Original Desktop. I then connected a network wire and I was able to install my software and connect to my Microsoft account. There was a bit of disappointment, as there were no instructions in English supplied. There were about 10-12 languages in a pamphlet included in the box but none were English. The drawings were labeled well enough to identify the details of the ports well enough for my trained eye, but the standard user may be left with questions about a few of the ports. I decided to add a second SSD to the computer and found the access inside very simple. Turned the top shield a quarter turn to the left and it unlocked exposing 4 screws that held the top fan in place. Once those were removed, the fan lifted out easily (be careful of the wire connecting the system board to the fan.) See the picture Disassembly with SSD 2 Slot Identified As part of the final setup, I had to decide where the computer would be on my desk. I had a option to put it behind my monitor See Picture Behind the Monitor, but instead, I took advantage of the mounting holes on the bottom of the computer to hang the computer from the back of my desk. See the picture Desk Mount BIOS Notes I did look at the BIOS. I was curious about how configurable it was as I have found with other units that the BIOS is very focused and not designed to allow tweaking. While the interface was not very fancy (very DOS like) it appeared to have several settings to adjust memory and processor. See the picture BIOS Advanced There are many drill down options. Summary Overall this computer provides a significant performance boost over the equipment I had. In my research I found that the AMD products provide better performance for the dollar, combined with integrating the GPU into the chip design it made the unit compact while still providing enough horsepower to drive 3 monitors effectively. In the few days I have worked with this unit, I still find myself marveling at how fast bootup times are and how quickly applications launch and web pages load. If you are looking for a gaming computer I would give this one a chance, I think you will be surprised at the speed of this computer and its ability to keep up with some of the most demanding games. ... show more

  • 1 weird glitch, but otherwise, AWESOME
My unit has a weird bug where if it goes to sleep, it will hard reset when it wakes up. (Kernel 41 error). Not a HUGE deal, as I just turned the sleep function off, but certainly makes me wary of other potential hardware fails or glitches. GMKtec did get right back to me about the issue through customer service - they suggested I edit something in the system registry - but I didn't want to mess with that. All in all though, I'm very happy with this. Machine is quiet and fast. The last PC I bought was in 2013, so you can imagine how far the tech has come since then. This thing is just blazingly fast with 32GB of RAM. I have no complaints about the quality of the build - it's sturdy and easy to use. I don't use the WiFi, I use an ethernet cable, so I can't comment on the WiFi issues some people experience. I would buy it again, to be totally honest. I'm excited for the future of mini PCs. I use it for some light gaming - CS2, guild wars - but it handles CS2 like a champ so I'm sure it can handle most games on low to mid settings. Older games run on high, obviously, no problem. EDIT: 6 Months /////////////// I have had instances where I need to use the WiFi and it has worked fine for me in those scenarios. Nice! Would still recommend it to someone who is maybe on the savvier side of PCs. I definitely still don't trust it 100% to not fail on me, and I back everything up on an external. ... show more

  • Impressive engineering at a very reasonable price.
The short form: I wanted a small form-factor computer for general work and light-duty gaming. This machine provides it admirably. The longer form: I chose it because it promised a decent level of gaming performance for the one game I play, World of tanks, at a decent frame-rate without its having a to have a noisy, secondary fan to handle the kinds of heating that the additional performance needs. What I have, and what I'm writing this review on, is a machine that handles world of tanks with low medium graphics settings at a frame rate of 40-60 fps with a highish ping which fulfills my basic needs, and it can do more if I turn it's graphics settings to low, at which point its frame rate goes to over a hundred-and-ten fps which works to make up for my senior-citizen reaction speeds. For the general work requirement, it is more than adequate, as in "much more." I can run multiple applications on multiple desktops and stream video (Amazon, Netflix, etc.) with no problems. Although I am transitioning from Mac to Windows in order to use it, I found its set up was a fairly simple process. One very pleasant surprise of the thing is just how quiet it is and competent the thing has been. Right now, I'm running several different, none-too demanding apps, and the fan is barely audible. And, even when I run my gaming app, the top of the box has never gotten more than perceptibly, but not uncomfortably, warm to the touch. The artificial intelligence app built into the operating system is a surprisingly good knowledge-base that greatly extends the power of search engines to answer general knowledge and technical questions. It was particularly useful when the computer started crashing when I played YouTube videos. The suggestions it provided got me back normal function in minutes. Considering how internet integrated modern operating systems are, I think it is imperative that you buy and install antivirus software as your second act with this or any computer. The bottom line I am perfectly happy with this computer. I would like a smidgeon of additional graphics power for gaming, but, considering my needs and the price, and after a month of use, I am very satisfied with my purchas, and I would definitely recommend it to someone like a college student or a light-duty gamer who was willing to trade a small amount of graphics power for noise-heat-and-hassle-free operation. ... show more

  • Perfect little machine.
Excellent replacement for 10 yr old HP Media laptop that finally crapped out. I use this connected to my tv as a web/media/whatever unit. It drives my 55" Samsung TV without issue. Nuts & Bolts: *I am a old NOC engineer (80/90`s vintage). I did not run the win~doze setup so I cannot speak to that. What I did was nuke the 1 TB SSD and installed Linux Mint. Just as another learned reviewer had done, except he went with a dual boot sequence. I did not do that. You do have to modify the BIOS to unprotected boot mode (esc key on start). I used rufus (rufus.ie) to create a bootable iso thumb drive running Linux Mint. You will have to connect a wired keyboard and mouse (15 bucks for basic kb and mouse at Wally World) to accomplish the install~after which you can use a wireless mouse and on~screen kb for everything else onward (as I am doing now). The install was seamless. Mint identified everything correctly, linked to my wireless router without issue (after SSID was confirmed), linked my wireless mouse and I was in business. Start to finish including unboxing was maybe 20 minutes. No endless mind numbing M$ Win~doze updates. No driver hunting, no establishing accounts to the cloud, etc. I am not running AAA games, but I do run some A and AA sometimes. It runs flawless. It also runs my seriously complicated spreadsheets and fluid dynamics simulators with out issue. Questions about heat always arise. Yes, taxing this it does get warm, no where near throttling performance or un~commanded shutdown. It is warm to the touch but no even close to a "fresh cup of coffee warm*. The fans are whisper quiet. You can feel the air move but you have to get within millimeters to actually hear it. It has been running 24/7 for the past 3 weeks now used every waking hour without issue. For the money and performance this is hard to beat. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Powerful Mini PC With Easy Setup and Great Performance
I’m honestly impressed with how much power is packed into this tiny computer. The setup process was incredibly simple—I just plugged in the power, connected the HDMI cable to my monitor, and added a keyboard and mouse. Within a few minutes Windows was ready to go and everything worked right away. For such a compact mini PC, the specs are very solid. It’s powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U with 8 cores and 16 threads, which makes everyday tasks feel extremely smooth. It handles multitasking, web browsing, office work, streaming, and even some light gaming without any problems. The 32GB of DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD also make a huge difference—apps open quickly and the system boots in seconds. Another thing I really like is the connectivity and expandability. It includes dual 2.5Gb Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C, HDMI, and DisplayPort, so you can easily connect multiple devices or even run up to three 4K displays at once. Currentlly i have 3 monitors connected. My plan is to connect 6 monitors. 1 using the HDMI, 1 using DP, 2 using USBC with a hub that has two HDMI ports, and 2 using USB 3.0 to 2 hdmi ports. This setup offers me 100% more productivity conducting my monitoring work and my analytical analysis. The size is probably the most impressive part. It’s small enough to sit on the corner of a desk or mount behind a monitor with the included VESA mount, yet it performs like a full desktop. Despite the power, it’s also quiet and energy-efficient, which makes it perfect for a home office or media setup. Overall, this mini PC offers excellent performance, tons of ports, and a super compact design for the price. If you want a powerful but space-saving desktop computer, this is a great option. ... show more

  • Not bad, but some changes could be made
This is my second GMKtec product, and I really liked the first one that had a 6800h with 680m graphics. This one was more for just hooking up to a tv for watching youtube or plex. I don't dislike this product and I still think it's good but there are a few things that GMKtek could change to make it an excellent product. First off I was surprised this was bigger than my previous better model and it was louder due to them using the worlds smallest fan, they also changed the design so you can't just easily pop the top off to access the inside. You have to now open the top and unscrew 4 screws underneath to open up another cover to get to your ram, but honestly with 32gb of ram I don't see any reason to open this up besides cleaning it. When I first starting using it I thought it was pretty slow. I then poked around in the bios and found it was in balanced mode which only uses 15 watts, I bumped it up to performance mode which uses 35 watts. Once I did that it was much snappier and ran as I expected from a chip like this, but it did make it a bit louder, the fan curve really needs to be adjusted in a possible bios update. When running cinebench on it after changing the bios settings it scored a little lower than a standard desktop 5800x, which isn't bad at all for a mobile chip. When opening it up I was really surprised to find a 2nd m.2 slot, so if you need more storage you can just put in another nvme instead of replacing your OS drive, which is very convenient. It also has dual 2.5gb ethernet ports, which is awesome. I am VERY happy to see companies switching over to 2.5gb since 1gb has been a thing for over 20 years. 32gb of ram and 1tb of storage is overkill for a device like this. If they could drop this to 16gb of ram and a 500gb drive and lower the price it would be excellent. Right now there are A LOT of mini pcs on the market that have better specs for about the same price, including some from GMKtek themselves. The device is using an older architecture with ddr4 and pcie gen3 for the storage, plus it uses basic integrated Radeon graphics so you definitely are not going to be doing things like gaming on this. I actually tried cs2 on it and running it at 720p on medium settings got me a little over 60fps. I found it to be a perfect device for watching youtube videos and web browsing. Ultimately if you can find this on sale for 300 or less I would say it's a good deal, if not though look at some of GMKteks other mini pcs that are a bit more powerful, they really do make good pcs and I had a very good experience with their customer service when I had to ask them questions. ... show more
