Great specs for the price, quality build.
Having purchased a GMKTec product almost a year ago (MiniPC Gaming specs) which I now use as my main machine, I thought of trying to find a suitable one to replace my current Plex server (already on non-supported Windows 10). I came across this configuration with a reasonable price tag, and already pre-loaded with Windows 11. The small footprint is always ideal, and out of the box, setting up was nice and easy, and has enough ports and HDMI. Considering I came from Windows 3.1 486 machines, its always amazing to have everything done quickly now. I don't plan to use this machine for anything heavy - as mentioned, it would only be replacing my Plex media streamer. The specs are not high end (given the price) but it suit my needs at this point. I installed the Plex app, and video and sound are decent, no slowdown or lag. The real test when Plex streams over the home network, but I'm confident it would be sufficient. It would eventually be wired to the router, but over wifi, its still very good (it may also be due to my competent internet service provider). At this price point, this machine would cover most needs like casual personal computer use, or student work. Highly recommended if you're looking for a budget mini-PC that is fast and reliable enough for everyday use. GMKTec has a very good product again and should ensure all units are of consistent quality.

Great, with caveats
Size: 128GB+2TB I EVO X2
It's a fairly decent deal for the ability to run very large models locally. I took the plunge based on another review, and although I couldn't replicate their success in Windows (version h3ll) I am able to run GPTOSS 120B and Qwen 80B Thinking models at respectable speeds on Ubuntu 25.10. I figured it would be useful to run my own models locally for VS Code agent purposes and it's working well so far. Windows just couldn't go past 64GB when loading models, no matter the configuration. After banging my head on the wall for a day or so I gave up and wiped Windows and replaced it with Ubuntu just to see if that was the issue. It basically worked out of the box and I don't have many issues at all under Linux. This is strictly a dev machine for me so I don't mind using Ubuntu in order to have the advantage of running, and tuning, models locally. It seems well built. I've only ever felt it get mildly warm, but I've not had it long now and I'm not playing games with it. It's got a sort of retro-modern sort of ugliness which I don't hate, but I really don't care about the aesthetics of tools like this so much. It's very quick and responsive in both Windows and Linux and if you need a beast for local inference, it's hard to beat at this price. Just remember you're mostly limited to 64GB VRAM for AI models in Windows. Linux seems to be able to do about 110GB reliably.

Very impressive Local LLM power house

Solid build quality. Easy to open the case and install another NVME m.2. I added another NVME drive and installed Ubuntu 24. On Windows, I was getting about 70 toks/s on Qwen3-30b-a3b-q4_k_m using LMStudio. Under Linux + Vulkan+llama.cpp, I got 86 toks/s for the same model. You can hear the fan under load, but compared to those 300+ watt GPUs, it is nothing to be complained of. For those need info on how to build Llama.cpp with various backends, search for "strix halo toolbox". Of course the point of this Strix Halo box is to run much larger models, such as the gpt-oss-120b or qwen3-235b. Hardware is fine, software support is pretty subpar

Like I said in the title, the hardware is fine. Ram and storage are accurate, the 395+ max performs about where you’d expect it, there’s enough ports for the average user, and it seems to keep it cool well enough. WiFi even works in Linux, which is a bonus. Only complaint regarding this is that the fans have an annoying and pretty audible whine. My main complaint and the reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is that trying to find the system’s drivers, tweak settings in the bios, and even update the bios is frankly a nightmare. For one, downloading GMKtec’s specific drivers only seems to work half the time. Their website uses a Google Drive to host the files, but trying to download them normally doesn’t work due to frequent traffic, and logging in to make a copy only worked once. Luckily, it’s all outdated, but pray you don’t have to manually install these drivers. With the bios, it’s surprisingly barren for one of these types of chips. Sure, the bare essentials are there, but it’s lacking a lot of features and there isn’t even a proper fan curve setting with the bios version that came with the device. Specifically with the fan options, there’s either an aggressive auto curve, or “smart fan” which is just short for fixed fan speed, where even 20% fan speed is annoying. Because of the barren bios and stupid fan settings, I tried to find a bios update- to see if this was just an early version on the system- and there seemed to be one that existed, but the link was only in the bios update tutorial and it had gone down some time ago. I believed there was nothing I could do, until I was trying to find a proper fan curve program on Linux and found several bios update links on a strixhalo wiki- one of them even having a proper fan curve setting. Point being/tldr; it seems like a fine system as is, but feels like punishment when trying to tinker with it.

Great system!

Installed Arch Linux without any trouble. Replaced the SSD with a pair of 4Tb Samsungs; disassembly was easy (you peel off the rubber feet to reveal the screws) and the build quality is excellent. While I'm planning on experimenting with AI models, so far I've run some games on Steam. Everything runs smoothly at maximum settings, and the system runs cool. During a game the fan is on but it's not too obnoxious in my opinion and never really generates noticeable heat. When I'm not playing a game the fan turns off in the PC just sits there very quietly. It's very small and sits on the desk next to the monitor. Not a huge number of USB ports on the back, but a USB splitter takes care of that If you need more although these days with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse that might not be necessary. I've been using Wi-Fi instead of ethernet and that's perfectly adequate thus far. Excellent hardware and tons of memory, I'm very pleased. One small nit: under Linux, by default it seems to allocates 32Gb to RAM and 32Gb to GPU, although system reports 128Gb on board. I think this will have to be configured manually and I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. So it's not really a problem just something to be aware of.

Not worth the Price tag

It claims to have 128GB of RAM but it is not fully utilized by the system. It is broken up in half for system and GPU. I would prefer, when I spend this kind of money, to decide on my own how the system handles all that RAM. I did not gain much of an advantage with this "AI Ready" server than my normal webserver.

Awesome Inexpensive Upgrade (So Far)
So far, this is an awesome, inexpensive upgrade for my 2012 Dell Optiplex PC. Me and my family are rarely home and we all have work or school computers. Sometimes we need to print or upload something our work cloud and it would take about 10 minutes for my Dell to boot up and load. Didn't want to spend a great deal of money for a newer PC what would be rarely used. Took a chance and brought this one. It took about 3 hours to set up which included updates, installing Adobe, MS Office, Google Chrome, and printer drivers. Once I got it set up and running, it took less than an minutes to turn on, log in, and get on the internet. My wife used it the next day to check something online and she ending up completing work for one of her jobs for the rest of the week.

Keep Looking if you need real AI graphic ability

As an AI computer, it is lacking. Ok, if you want to run a text-only self-hosted AI. but trash if you need any real graphic or processing. No NVIDIA card—I make it very limited, and i yet to find a use for the numeric processor. On the plus side, it is small and quiet.
