Great tank!

  • great starter tank
This is a fun little tank. It is easy to set up and assemble. The tank itself is plastic, which makes it much lighter. The light secures on top with 2 simple screws and it plugs in, so the light omits a constant blue glow that makes everything in the tank glow. The filter is simple to put together and hangs over the edge of the tank in addition to a suction cup on the back that keeps it secure. One thing I would say is that you don't need to buy the Glow brand products to stop get a great effect with the lights. Any brightly colored rocks and plants will work with this aquarium and still look awesome. Overall, my girls are loving their fishes' new neon glowing hkme! ... show more

  • Pretty good home for fishy’s as long as the filter is not accessible by the fish.
It’s a cute tank that’s easy to setup and use aside from my cover for the top doesn’t appear to actually fit the tank right. It just loosely lies across the top and has been knocked in a couple times but doesn’t appear to hurt anything. The first week the filter actually sucked up 2 of the fish against the bottom of the filter and apparently they were unable to swim away from it and they died fairly quickly from it. We had to put a good size fake bush underneath it to block it off so nobody could get to it moving forward. Other than that we love it! ... show more

  • Good Quality
Kind of pricey, but worth the money if you're a serious aquarium keeper. We used it for Neocaridina Shrimp that we got in different colors, and a few very small glo-fish tetras. It was neat to watch our shrimp grow up, as they came to us as tiny little babies. The tank lights made them glow nicely so we could see what they were up to. ... show more

  • Just don't.
I legitimately regret buying this tank. Don't do it. 1. You look at it funny, and it scratches. I put the GloFish SAND in this and it scratched the bottom almost to unusability immediately. 2. The glow-light had a stupid huge plug, for absolutely no reason. I can get USB blacklights that are far more powerful with just a cord and a USBA. There is no reason for the BRICK at the end of the cord that is larger than the light itself. It's also a weak light that barely shows the sand of the same brand! 3. The lid. The lid doesn't fit. The lid forces the filter into one spot and nowhere else. The lid forces the light into it only one way, and then has the cable ran away from the hole cut into the lid intended for the light cable! You have to run it right next to the filter instead, leaving the light-cable hole just open. +Oh, and don't even THINK of wanting regular light to see anything on-UV-reactive. If the solid-black lid doesn't stopped it from above, the cheap acrylic bends it unpleasantly. 4. The light only "fits" one way, and even then if you breathe it falls out. Forget ever opening your tank to feed your fish, you put it back on and the light falls in the water. 5. The lid doesn't fit so bad, you have to push the lid in to flex the tank ITSELF to make it sit. And put a weight on it or it'll pop right back off. 6. The filter. This is a three (3) gallon tank. You don't need a medium-sized filter for this size of tank. Even with all fake plants, and over-stocked with fish, a medium filter with ONE carbon cartridge is just bonkers. No. Either size the filter down, or include better media for this price. 7. The filter stopped working after one week, even with no fish or animals in the tank. The impeller just stopped working, which is odd given the company that makes the filter. Making me think this is the cheapest, most sub-par they make. For the price? Go get a square glass cube of the same volume. For the same price you'll get a working LED light and walls you can actually clean. The shape is cool, but just not worth it. If I could return it, I would. But it's so damaged from just sand, shrimp, and one plastic plant, that it would be un-retunable. ... show more

  • Dangerous filter design
I got this as a cheap tank for a betta I'm looking after temporarily as he looked so sad in his little 1 gallon bowl. It's a good size and the design is not terrible - it doesn't look as cheap as it actually is. The guideline of 1 pound of gravel per gallon works well as 3 pounds of gravel was perfect for about an inch depth. The filter, aside from being poor quality, is actually dangerous if you have smaller fish. The betta I'm looking after is full grown, so he's not tiny, but a few days after transferring him to this tank I found him somehow trapped inside the filter. His fins are shredded and he's very shaken, so I'll have to work hard to make sure that he doesn't get fin rot or some other disease while he recovers. The filter is very, very cheap, even compared to other cheap filters. It's basically an open bucket - there is no top cover - and you just shove a little bag of carbon/whatever else is in the refills inside. The motor at the bottom sucks in water and it pushes it out through the top in an aesthetically pleasing waterfall. The open bucket design at the top makes it possible for a fish to accidentally jump in, which is what I think happened in my case. I didn't overfill the tank and keep at least an inch of space near the top. I recommend throwing this filter straight into the trash if you do get this tank. I have the Penn Plax Cascade 300 filter in my main betta tank, and I would recommend it 100% for a small tank that's over 3 gallons capacity. It's fully submersible, minimizing the disturbance of the water surface so they can make their bubble nests, and it has two stage filtration - mechanical through a sponge and with a carbon cartridge. It's fully enclosed so no accidents like this happen with it. The lid is also flimsy. There's no hinge or connection to the tank - it just sits on top, so it would be easy to fumble it and dip it in the tank, distressing your fish. I don't use the light but I can't imagine having anything electric attached to such a flimsy piece of plastic. The light seems to just clip on so it's not the most secure thing either. All in all, this is a cheap tank with cheap accessories. ... show more
