Description

Perfect for slicing delicate tomatoes or berries as well as thick-skinned fruits like citrus or avocados, this nimble, serrated paring knife excels in any situation that calls for a little finesse. A common sight in commercial kitchens and designed to meet the exacting standards of professional chefs, Global knives pair handcrafted quality with cutting-edge materials and construction techniques. Each Global knife features a precisely balanced, lightweight design that reduces hand fatigue and ensures perfect control at the cutting board. FEATURESForged from a single piece of stainless steel for incredible strength, durability and performance. Serrated blade slices through delicate fruits and vegetables that squash easily and is sharp enough to cut through tough skins and rinds. Lightweight G18 CROMOVA steel takes and holds a lasting edge?even at the ultra-sharp 12.5? angle used in Japanese cutlery. Sleek, ergonomic handles feature Global’s signature dimple pattern for a secure grip, comfort and control. Seamless design is hygienic and easy to maintain. Global knives are perfectly balanced thanks to handles that are precisely calibrated to offset the weight of the blade. Manufacturer: Global. Material: Stainless steel. Care: Hand wash only. Dimensions: 3" blade, 8" overall length. Warranty: Lifetime warranty. Made in Japan. Global knives are appreciated for their sleek, cutting-edge design and quality stainless-steel edges, and this 3-inch tomato knife proudly continues the Global tradition. The serrated edge cuts with striking efficiency, resulting in a neatly sliced tomato that doesn't spill its pulp all over the counter. The blade is constructed of ice-tempered and hardened stainless steel, and its edge stays sharp far longer than similar blades while resisting rust, stains, and corrosion. Put a Global knife in your hand and you'll notice its lightweight comfort and delightful balance, which is especially handy when slicing multiple tomatoes for a large gathering. The knife features thin blades and hollow handles, and it should fit in many (if not most) knife blocks. Hand washing is recommended. --Rivers Janssen

  • This is the finest cutting / slicing knife I've ever used
I already have a half dozen Global knives but this is the most useable and best of the bunch. I use it for everything that does not require a much bigger knife. I like it so much I am having a custom leather sheath so I can carry it outdoors as a hunting/camping knife.

  • Like all my Global knives
I've been needing a tomato knife for a long time and finally bought the Global Tomato Knife. Like all my Global knives, this knife handle fits nicely and feels good in my hand and my tomatoes are cut clean without smashing any part of the tomato - I love it.

  • No more pre-chewed looking tomatoes
I find myself reaching for a Global more often than the knives I own from other mass market brands: Wüsthof, Zwilling-Henckels and Shun. In my experience, a Global is sharper out of the box than its German competitors yet less fussy than its fellow Japanese offerings. And I love that they make a lot of specialty knives, ones not frequently found in the average American home kitchen. I surf their site and think, “Do I need this?! Ohhh, I think I do!”. Of course the answer is usually: no, I really don’t. But this weird little knife was one I had to try. I actually don’t even like tomatoes but I seem to prepare them very, very often for my family. I don’t work with enough serrated knives to expertly comment on this one. But the gullies in this knife are fairly deep, the tips are quite sharp: so this has a lot of “bite”. It’s not just a glorified steak knife— as those have dozens of narrow gullies and are meant to operate like a saw— whereas this has deep, more scalloped gullies, but fewer of them… which I think, don’t quote me here, means more concentrated force is distributed with less effort. So you aren’t going to press as hard; in the world of ‘let’s not totally mangle this poor innocent tomato’ this is only a good thing. This knife glides through like butter. OK, like buttah. It’s supremely satisfying to use. If you own a high quality serrated knife that equally performs on shoe leather steak, sourdough loaf, and plum tomatoes, well, you’re in better shape than I am and probably don’t need this knife. But I can’t give it 5 stars because, like others have reported, it is about an inch too short to be the tool it should be. I don’t see how adding some length would harm its intended purpose of gentleness and precision. Maybe my Western brain hasn’t figured out those physics…. I primarily use this on cocktail tomatoes. I rarely have big ole Beefsteaks or any variety much larger than a Roma or standard vine-ripened. It cuts VERY precise, thin slices. That’s its job. If you ask it do much more than easily cut gorgeous slices—like dicing— it doesn’t perform much better than basically any other knife. (Though my knife sills are fairly remedial). Tomatoes are just… difficult. And this is not a magic wand; if you’re hacking away trying to make itty bitty pieces, you’re still gonna get that seedy tomatoey ooze and look around your cutting board for a way to scoop those guts right back into the tomato. Or is that just me? Also, when doing tomatoes for my mom, who isn’t as keen on eating the skin, this knife works fine as a peeler too. But again, if you’re after very pretty and perfect slices with minimal effort and you possess only basic knife skills, the GS-9-3's performance and control on small tomatoes makes this a good investment. Oh, and if it’s the middle of the night and you want to gently separate a stubborn English muffin and top it with a fried egg and a gorgeously sliced wee cherry tomato, well, this is the only knife you need to grab. And that’s saying something, yes? I think so. Lastly, I happen to enjoy the grip and the weight on most Globals but they’re not for everyone. Though it’s safe to say if you’re perusing this page you’re probably already an owner of at least one Global. Or if you have a tomato-lover in you life or are looking for an uncommon gift for the cook that seems to have it all, this is a pretty cool darn knife (for a handful of incredibly specific tasks). And I’m here for that. ... show more
