Global 6 Piece Block Set. Set comprises of 7" Asian cook's knife, 8.25" carving knife, 8.75" bread knife, 5.25" utility knife, 4" paring knife plus stainless steel counter top storage block. (G4, G3, G9, GS3, GS7 AND G835KB). Loved by professional chefs around the world, Global knives are an excellent choice for the serious home cook. The thin and razor sharp Global blade allows the cook to cleanly slice through foods, preserving the integrity of the ingredient and maximizing its flavor. The majority of Global knives are ground to a straight point rather than the western style of beveling the edge. To balance their knives Global uses a hollow handle that is filled with just the right amount of sand to create the correct balance. The handle has its own unique darkened dimples for a non-slip grip. Because the knives are very light weight they reduce hand fatigue. Global knives have a smooth contour and seamless, all stainless construction that eliminates food and dirt traps. Global knifes are forged in Japan from CROMOVA 18 Stainless Steel, a blend of 18 percent chromium for good stain resistance plus molybdenum and vanadium which gives excellent edge retention

We have had Global knives for years. It was time to replace a few. After nearly 20 years several had chipped but only after years of service and sharpening. This set is great and the block looks perfect on the counter. Only reason not to rate higher: the 6 piece set became very confusing as the face of the box shows six knives and the block. The side of the box describes the contents as 5 knives and the block, as did the Amazon listing. My wife ordered but I opened the package. I found five knives thinking there would be six based on fro t of box. Almost returned it before my wife pointed out the side of the box. Global needs to address this. Could be called false advertising. Also, box shipped as it had set on a shelf. Not packing box and no tape. That added to my worry one of the knives were missing. ... show more

    • The knives got rusty after 2 weeks of use
I was very excited about this set of Global knives. Used them for less than 2 weeks and one of the knives (a pairing knife) got rusty. I never put them in the dishwasher and always washed them by hand and dried after each use. The customer service from the amazon seller was superb, called me right away and recommended contacting Amazon and Global. So if I could rate the seller separately from the product, I would've definitely given them a 5 star review. I emailed Global and they stated that "Rust/tarnishing is not covered by the warranty policy. This can be easily remedied by cleaning your cutlery with Bar Keepers Friend or a metal polish safe for cookware such as Wenol." After emailing back and forth several times with the Global rep, I gave up. So just a warning about this product to future buyers: you can spend $400 on a set of their knives and if they get rusty, Global will not exchange them and they will not be covered by their warranty. I love these knives. I researched for about a week and I have not heard one negative thing about these. I have used them everyday in my home kitchen for 3 months. I just bought the global G45 ceramic sharpener and a stropping block. All of the knifes are still RAZOR sharp. I am a customer for life. If you want authentic Japanese knives look no further. Don't think, just buy. 2 years later and I'm still a huge fan. I have since purchased the flexible filet knife and it has a spot in the block now too. ... show more

I like the knives. The balance is excellent and great sharpness. Then why the one star deduction? The block wobbles. Almost like the bottom is a bit warped just enough to wobble every time we touch it. I've tried it at several different places in the kitchen and it ain't the counter tops. I'm not sure how much these blocks go for on their own but at this price point one would think it doesn't wobble. ... show more

    • Lifetime set of knives
We bought this set as a gift for our daughter who loves to cook. She researched and specifically requested the Global brand. We had given her the 11 inch chef's knife last year and she was very pleased with that knife. I have also used the knives when visiting her. The knives are incredibly sharp and well-balanced. They are comfortable in your hand. Expensive, yes - but as my father always said - "buy high quality items and take care of them!" These knives should be a lifetime set. ... show more
